Line Of Sight Fair Play Option

Thus far I really like and come to adapt to the new changes made to the games mechanics and function. But I would like to address my concern over, "Line Of Sight". Line Of Sight brings a bit of realism to the game that I come to appriciate, but in the grand scheme of things it put the PvE player aspect of the game at a great disadvantage. For example, if im in battle with a random aggressive npc in an open field there is no real disadvantage. However, if the same battle was moved inside a building I would be at a great disadvantage due to the fact that Line of Sight do not effect the npc. Therefore, the npc could run/walk, and attack through walls were I as a player can't putting me at a Great disadvantage. Overall Line Of Sight is a wonderful addition to the game but make it so the npc have to use Line Of Sight as well. Yes Mr. Npc that means no more walking/running through walls attack me. :)

Hey now, if the mobs didn't cheat, what chance would they have against players? :P

Really though, we're aware that some of the mobs aren't exactly playing fair, and will be taking that into account during future design discussions.

lol. I'm actually not being (too) sarcastic here, rodatas. :)) If RW goes through w/ implementing a working los for npc's, I think people will grow to like the game even more.

Talking about strategies... imagine a tank drawing aggro and using speed pots to run around a group of columns forcing mobs/bosses to chase that tank while everyone else takes pot shots.

Once again, though, it requires RW actually taking the time to work out a good development plan and have the production managers draw up realistic project timelines and NEVER let management see the real timelines... they tend to either 1) freak out, 2) insist it can be done sooner or 3) freak out and assume the work is already done

I can not imagine the condition in question was intentionally left in place.

Somebody either forgot or they planned to fix LOS in two phases for some reason, P1 for players, P2 for NPCs.

Well, I'm getting real tired of not being able to attack a monster with bows or spells because my characters can't see the monsters TOES!

Having a little bump of dirt blocking your LOS is just plain ridiculous.

With the new LOS changes, I actually had a fight with a Sand Scorpion in Ravenfell that I couldn't hit with my crossbow even though I was in melee combat with it!

Hilariously, that is pretty close to the strategy to Sardo Castle third boss lol...

LoS is starting to get really annoying tho, and while the last patch helped some, the issues are still cropping up.

We did GCH last night, and wiped a few times on Boro Boro bros because the tank kept getting LoS errors on the boss, and so did most of the dps. There's just too much junk in that room. We died too many times on trash that of course never gets the LoS issue, but we can't target them to save our lives, literally.

In siege, it's starting to come down to a question of "who has the most scouts?" any time the battle gets to the gates, just because they can shoot through the walls. I don't understand why some skills are exempt from the LoS fix, and why they seem so random. I mean, I got killed umptybillion times the other night by Magma Blade (not a scout skill even) and Thorn Arrow, and Disarmament (s/k elite version) and Shoot and the ever popular Autoshot and plain old Shot. Now, I understand that Shoot is the s/wd elite version of Shot, but explain Disarmament and Thorn Arrow and Magma Blade?

Why can Disarmament ignore LoS and yet my elite, Ice Blade, bounces right off? It gets to be downright disheartening to not be able to live long enough to get in position to kill these guys, and to have to wait for my scouts to come and save us.

I think LoS isn't a game breaker per se, but damn it's getting annoying. I don't mind dying in an instance because someone in the party makes a bad pull, I don't mind dying in siege if someone out-gears or out-plays me, but damn... getting killed by LoS is starting to get old.

Actually any skills that have to be targeted on the ground to cast, like the mage thunderstorm and druid's sandstorm can be used to attack people in places where LoS should have stopped them from working. On the otherhand Mother Earth's Fountain, druid's GH can also be cast through places where LoS should have stopped them from working.

A while ago there were a bunch of newts in Moongorge I couldn't attack with my Fireball even thought I was STANDING ON A MOUND ABOVE IT! there was no part of the thing that I couldn't see, yet I couldn't "see" it. That LoS code derps a lot.
Ithiriz(Osha M/R/W 50/30/25), Saerimuus (Osha Wd/D 12/1), and some other Elf, Osha D/S 13/10, not to mention a few random characters on random servers that I made but that you probably won't ever see.

Line of sight is garbage how it is now.

I can't shoot an NPC standing on stairs above me?? Really??

I can't shoot an NPC behind a Treasure chest?? Reallly??

I can't shoot an NPC behind a picket fence?? Are you kidding??

I can't shoot an NPC on some wavey ground?? What??

I can't shoot an NPC behind a rock that is half my height?? Come on!

I come up to bosses and have to walk around it.....around it some more....around it some more.....oh ok there we go I can shoot at it now.

Get it to freaking gether please. It's such a hassle and pain. It's stupid things like this that really wear you down and make it less pleasant to play. When a game starts leaning toward more frustrating than fun you're going to start losing people.

Moongorge is easily the worst offender for LOS issues anywhere in the game. I don't know how many tickets I've submitted on it, yet here we are in Chapter 4 and it's still as bad as Chapter 1. Thankfully you don't have too many quests in the area to make it a major annoyance, BUT it's in the starting zone and it COULD end up frustrating new players enough that they won't want to continue playing the game beyond that point.

The next place I've encountered with bad LOS issues are the three farms in Silverspring. Hunting the boars, farmhands and wolves in those areas kicks up a lot of LOS errors. I'm sure they will get fixed sooner or later, but until then I'll do my best to shoot at a fat hog hiding behind a cornstalk.

Coding LOS is not easy, but i do agree with the OP that some mobs cheat more than players ever could.
Here is another issue that needs a bit of attention witht eh LOS: some boss fight areas contain things that are too close together to get through unless you are creative and yet the bosses walk right past said spos without blinking an eyelash. If a spot is difficult for a player to get through then shouldn't it also be difficult or impossible for a boss to get through. Yes there could be some exploitation of this (boss getting stuck in small spot ant eh group potshoting it until it dies) but that could become part of the strategy of downing the bosses.

Yep Moongorge is very frustrating. I was a mage the first time I entered there so I tried using my trusty Flame to try and get em...LoS Issue...I try using my other spells...LoS Issue...I go up and use Discharge...No LoS Issue but it didn't hit. It takes almost a minute for me on each of them at that level because of this stuff -.-. Thank god they weren't aggressive :P. On a side note too when you enter that portal in there (Not the Water Dragon Instance) in a party and go back out your party disappears from your LoS :p

Makes things worse when you cant hit them from range (line of sight) and then you MUST FACE TARGET when in close range. Give R/S an aoe, they are gimped obviously.
