Only hide hats, cloaks, wings, SP's, shoes.

To put it short, too many people are running around in their underwear. Now I get why most of us guys(including, I'm embarassed to say, myself) LOVE that female characters have ability to hide all their clothing (especially since (I can't help but notice :o) some classes' female undergarments are EXTREMELY revealing), but... my less primal-instinctive side finds it somewhat unnecessary, and even annoying. And besides, some female shirts are revealing enough, although I don't mind that at all :D. However, if Frogster/Runewaker was to remove hiding of gear altogether, I'd be annoyed, since some short cloaks, shoulderpads and hats look really annoying or out of place and/or protrude through shields, and some shoulderpads' and shoes' colors just don't fit with certain other gear (for F2P people like me who can't freely recolor as they wish), plus for some people wings and other gear with effects cause lag, but otherwise seriously, why is clothing hiding really needed?

EDIT: edited to accommodate people with lag.
EDIT2: fixed some stuff. I hoped this topic would just die but... Oh well.

This game uses a lot of cpu at the best of times. That is why so many were pissed of about remove spell effects being classed as a bad thing. Anything to reduce the cpu loading to help with fps in big fights with lots of people around.

Clothes hidden = less textures to render so hopefully less cpu used so less fps drop when lots of people around. How much difference it makes I don't know but it has been the expected thing for a long time and it gets to the point of being sick of hiding/unhiding cloths so leave them hidden.

"but otherwise seriously, why is clothing hiding really needed?"

Simply put, lag. Some costumes have an 'animation' to them, like shoulder pieces that glow, smoke, sparkle. Wings that do the same. For someone who plays on a low end computer like myself, I usually hide my chars armor just so I can obtain more than 3fps :(

Speaking as a woman who plays a female char, I really don't have a problem with it. Yeah some of the costumes are a bit risque but to me it's all just art.. that's just my opinion though. Sadly, and I've been playing as an on again off again diamond buyer since 08... a VAST majority of diamonds I purchase are spent on costumes, dying, aggregators, rinse, repeat. It's a shame I have to hide it all just so I can move through Varanas without having a nervous breakdown induced by lag :P
Some men just want to watch the world burn..
I just want to be the first to light it afire.

Oh. Then why not a "enable/disable gear FX" option and a "Gear hidden only for you" / "gear hidden for all" option? And the risque shirts/"pants" I don't mind a bit ;) . Just the people running around nearly naked I mind.

Now why would I remove a South Park screen shot?

Seriously though, you guys have to start using imgur instead of imageshack or some other dross. It's always sad to see broken links.

Removing the "effects" on armor won't fix the problem...the client still has to render the armor itself, which can cause lag, especially in raids. It's common for some bigger raids to ask that people hide their armor and wings--it's not about being risque. It's about being actually helpful in your party instead of having to deal with 1 FPS with everyone's shiny, moving gear on.

If you can't handle people prancing around in their underwear, maybe you're not mature enough to handle an MMO. I don't have a problem with it, as a woman, because risque clothing or near-nakedness sort of comes with the genre of MMOs.

I have to reply to this.Hiding of clothing is a nice way to reduce lag for other players. I bet that some of yall were not there when the Thunderhoof Hills events first started (stick enough people in one area and watch the server crash). Broken events on the best of days, and the servers crashing on the worst. I can agree on the amount of skin the female characters show is a bit over the top, but I think RuneWalkers did that to get the game to appeal to the younger crowds (the 13-19 year old males). Most MMORPG's are beign played nowadays by that set of players. More due to teh ability to get their rocks off by having a female run around in front of them in their undies. I personaly would not mind it if they removed the ability to hidde pants and tops. If I want to see a naked woman I just ask my wife to strip. Kinda hard to explain to her what I am looking at is a game and not my immagination of the perfect woman, when you have half a dozen of them onscreen at a time.

If they take away nude speed runs through HoS, who will be left to play?

But seriously, it makes a big difference in graphic lag. I play Priest, so I hide everything but my robe, and don't look naked at all. But sometimes I need every tenth of a frame per second I can get and go nude. I do this, not because I'm some horny male playing a female character (I don't usually play females anyway; it's a long story), but because my computer sucks, and RoM's graphic engine also sucks.

I was referring to the characters' lean, muscular bodies versus our... well... Often not-so-lean, not-so muscular bodies XD

And really couldn't the "underwear" all roughly look like the starter Warrior gear or something even more lagless? And no, I'm not to immature to handle it, I just believe that things might get awkward if people's girlfriends (or parents, for the younger players here) saw them playing RoM running alongside a bunch of almost-naked, usually hot girls, among a few other things, lol. And I'll repeat again: Risque female clothing I have no problem with, and actually LIKE in most cases, but only having a few straps on to hold your round parts up I do have a problem with. (I've noticed that it's mostly only a certain class or two of Elves, but I forget which ones, could someone remind me?)

There are only two types of female underwear in RoM: human and elven. AFAIK, male underwear is all the same, but I've never paid attention. This is one of the ways I can tell I'm not gay.

@ OP.

First up, I find it just a bit sexist to be ok with females in underwear but not ok with males in underwear.

"EXTREMELY revealing? Damn, you must have way better imagination than I do. Nothing in this poorly rendered game excites me in that way & yes, I do have a high end computer running highest graphic settings & I am a male that loves the female form.

I play a male elf & hide everything except my pants. The gear I hide I hide because it is just plain ugly & I'm to much of a skinflint to spend diamonds on aggregaters.

As a female gamer... aside from the really relevant issue of lag (one of my guildies has a macro in english and spanish demanding full raid nudity for a reason)... dammit, if I feel like running around in my granny panties, I'm going to.

I like the fact that this game assumes that we're all adult enough to deal with boobies. They're just pixel boobies. They don't hurt anyone, it's kind of playful.

I'm just upset that the human lady toons have to wear granny panties and the elves get to shop at Victoria's Secret. Plus they get really cute default heels, and humans have huge ugly feet!

Human men, just in case you totally heterosexual macho manly types were wondering, wear cute little leather boxers (I call these the man-panties) and elves wear what looks like a blue-green bathing suit.

Come on peeps. We're grown ups. Pixel cleavage will not hurt anyone, not even the children.
