A Bad Idea

Saw something to this affect, posted here a while ago, and just realized how tired I am... I did think of something to say to support it or condemn it or... meh, I don't really remember... but I was bored earlier so I made it, and I'm tired now and don't feel like writing a rant about it... I'll just post a pic and let you guys decide just what you want about what I was trying to do here, and whether or not it's a bad idea, or just a really bad idea...

Bet you can't guess what I was thinking when making this...

Awesome new variation on the old Clue game.

What will the weapons be to go with it?

Who will the suspects be?

Well, you have neatly labeled and numbered one of my pet peeves in RoM, the fact that 80% of the Guild Castle map is just wasted space. Give us something to build out there, it doesn't even have to be siege related, but I wouldn't cry if it was.

Something like a "punching bag" is one idea I have wished they would implement. A "boss" style mob, with unlimited HP, that never attacks, and can have pdef anywhere from that of good old Oakander, all the way to that of whatever the current last boss of RoM is, depending on upgrades. They could even let us build multiple "bosses" so midgamers could use one, and "endgamers" could use another, while any "bleeding edge" endgamers could use yet another.

The purpose of these in my mind would be to give dps a chance to test rotations, skills, pattk food vs pdef food, etc. without the risk of death. They could also have a "leaderboard" showing who got the biggest hit on the "boss" in the past, maybe a top ten or something. Even top burst dps, top sustained dps, there are so many ways to go with this idea.

Another idea: They could even make it so we could "plant" the Herb essences, Ore essences, and Wood essences, with Guild Rubies, Guild Runes, and Guild Stones being a "rare" drop just like the Special Fruit and Green Leaf Dewdrops from normal planting.

Yet another idea: Let us build "arenas" where we could stage intra-guild battles, sort of like 3v3 and 6v6 arenas, but guild only, and with less (if any) rewards, so that it is not abused.

There are so many things we could do, if only they would allow us to use all of the available space in and around our castle.

now that I'm back in the land of the living, I remember that I mapped out some plots of land. As was stated by two22222, there's a lot of wasted space outside the guild castle, so was thinking that you can place guildmember houses around the castle for those who choose to allow it. It'd probably cause way too much lag though, trying to process each village block to have labeled doors that will put you into another guildmate's house. Unlocking of new areas with plots of land would come from castle upgrades and blah, blah, blah... who cares right? Something like this would take a lot of work and I just don't see it happening... so like the post is titled... it's a bad idea.

When I looked at the picture, I saw an apartment complex. I actually like any idea that upgrades the castles in useful ways. I think the guild castles in RoM are very cool, and should be given more emphasis. In fact, the whole guild system needs some more work, IMO.

I'm not sure apartments really make sense to me. I wouldn't mind having a House Maid NPC in the castle, but I don't think physically present houses would be that great. I'd like all of that space to be used for something NEW. Houses aren't new.

I love the Guild Arena idea. I know my guild would use it quite a bit. Sometimes we miss a siege spot, but many still feel like some good PvP action. Guild Arenas would give us a chance to test strategies, get to know our strengths and weaknesses, and of course, have a blast. This is certainly not a bad idea.

The "Punching Bag" idea is certainly not bad, though I would not use it.

I'd like to see a lot more done with guild castles, and in particularly, I'd like to see the ability for a castle to be molded into a unique center for social interaction. Currently, I only go into the guild castle to grab buffs and leave, grab a guild quest and leave, or to run to a building and AFK there. I'd like to actually run into some of my guildies in the castle, and for there to be more spontaneous interactions. A guild should feel like a community, not just in guild chat, or vent, or TS, but in the guild castle. If I run in and happen to see several guildies doing something interesting, I will almost certainly join them, and we will all have fun. Currently, there is nothing interesting to DO in the castle, and no reason to hang out in there. There is no real way to customize a castle's functionality to suit the needs of a particular guild.

/agreed

I think that was the idea behind the whole "apartment complex" thing I made. I just didn't like the fact that so much of the guild zone is just wasted space. I figured that if some housing was put up around it, where people didn't have to leave the guild castle to reach their house it would be kinda neat. Like having a PHYSICAL location for your house, not just some metaphorical zone that you have to talk to someone to enter and leave. Plus I think it would look nice when you upgrade your castle and go out to your house and look back at the guild over the rows of houses.

But yeah, I'm just really looking to do something with all that wasted space really. Use your imagination, there's plenty of room...

We do PK in the castle sometimes, but some sort of structure would be nice. PK on a flat field is only interesting for a very short period of time. Last time I was involved, our top Mage, a Scout, and I teamed up against all of the Rogues in our guild, plus a Warden, another mage, and a few passing randoms. Even our best geared Rogues had to work together, strategize, and time their attack perfectly to take the three of us down. It was incredible fun, but given the limitations of a flat patch of ground, it only remained so for a matter of minutes. An organized arena could make the experience many times more fun, and for a much longer period of time.

Plus the fact that unless you plan on going perma-red rep, that would be a LOT of [Declaration of Neutrality] we would have to buy just to do a bit of organized pvp. They are cheap, but it would add up.
