Fixing Skills

This is a list of skills I have seen to be outdated, broken, or do not function as intended. These skills need to be fixed.
Primary Only
Mage
- Meteor Shower: This skill functions as intended. The amount of damage is not effected by the elemental boosts provided by Fire Knowledge or Wind Knowledge. This skill's damage does not scale well past level 50 compared to other Mage skills.
- Phoenix: This skill functions as intended. The amount of mana required is much too high and the damage dealt is much too low. This skill deals low damage at the cost of large amounts of mana and has a cooldown time of 10 seconds.

Priest
- Chain of Light: This skill functions as intended. The amount of damage is not effected by the elemental boost provided by Prayer. This skill's damage does not scale well past level 50 compared to other Priest skills.
- Wave Armor: This skill functions as intended. The amount of damage blocked does not increase proportionately with the target's stats. The flat amount of damage blocked by this skill is negligible in 60+ content.

Druid
- Blinding Silence: This skill deals a flat amount of damage and is not effected by stats.

Elite Skills

Warrior/Druid
- Rose Vine: This skill works as intended. It uses a type of damage no other skill uses, Blood Damage. The tooltip says that.
- Tremor: This skill works as intended. The amount of accuracy lost is a flat number and does little to warrant the use of mana. It also doesn't generate rage even though it is a melee skill.
- Redemption: This skill works as intended. The amount of Accuracy gained is minimal compared to the total amount of accuracy players normally have once they pass level 50.

Scout/Druid
- Snake Poison Arrow: This skill has a chance at providing one of the effects. Neither of the effects can occur at the same time regardless, the stun lasts 3 seconds and the poison lasts 6 seconds while the skill's cooldown time is 6 seconds. The skill sometimes triggers neither of these effects.
- Focus: This skill functions as intended. The amount of physical attack gained from having any amount of wisdom is much too small. Even as a bonus, this skill does very little to aid the player in the level 50+ content. 50% of Wisdom for Scouts will amount to less than 5% of their total Physical attack when fully statted.

Scout/Priest
- Spiritual Leader: This skill functions as intended. It cancels other effects that have the same effects on players.

Rogue/Mage
- Booby Trap: This skill deals damage as intended. The damage that is dealt is not attributed to the player. Even if the player places the trap to kill an enemy, the enemy will not be attributed to the player unless the player has entered combat. If this trap kills an enemy without the player first engaging the enemy in combat, the enemy will not be lootable.

Rogue/Druid
- Poison Shroud: This skill works as intended. The damage from the skill is negligible because it is based on magic attributes. While it may look useful, it uses a poison bottle each cast. In a situation, this skill is not useful because it has low damage and has very little effect on enemies past level 50.

Rogue/Knight
- Reckless Warrior: This skill functions as intended. Even when upgraded, the percentage increase on physical attack is 1% even if the skills are at maximum level.

Mage/Scout
- Thunderclap: This skill functions as intended. The fact that the effect is removed by the target receiving damage is where the problem lies. Other elite skills and skills from other players that deal damage over time ultimately render this skill useless.
- Power of the Wind: This skill functions as intended. The amount of magical accuracy given is negligible when facing opponents.

Mage/Rogue
- Shadow Protection: This skill functions as intended. It conflicts with other casting speed buffs and potions as well, cancelling them.

Priest/Warrior
- Fighting Spirit Combination: This skill functions as intended. The damage ratio on this skill is significantly lower than other elite skills.

Priest/Scout
- Tide Control: This skill functions as intended. The added bonus is negligible even with a tiered bow. This skill adds no beneficial damage.

Priest/Rogue
- Snake Curse: This skill has very low damage. Even with the boost from Wraith Halo, the damage from this skill is very low.
- Lure of the Snake Woman: This skill has an extremely low range. 150 range is worthless versus other ranged players and has much lower range than other disabling skills.
- Snake Spirit: The mana returned doesn't use percentages. Once the player is level 50 and above, the skill's mana returned is very low.
- Shadow Fairy: Wraith Halo's dark damage boost is much too low. 10% boost in dark damage is not very much when the dark skills have very low damage to begin with.

Priest/Knight
- Enhanced Grace of Life: This skill functions as intended. It overwrites normal Grace of Life, regardless of level. A level 1 Enhanced Grace of Life will cancel a level 70 normal Grace of Life.

Knight/Mage
- Holy Light Domain: This skill functions as intended. The damage on this skill is extremely low. The amount of damage reduced seems fine but this skill adds very little damage depending on stats.
- Lightning Armor: This skill deals set amounts of damage. It is not effected by player stats and cannot be critical. Compared to Briar Shield, this skill is extremely low in damage.
- War Prayer: This skill functions as intended. The bonus parry rate is extremely low once the player goes past level 50.

Warden/Druid
- Crystal Heal: This skill functions as intended. The amount of healing done by the skill is not effected by any stats. The amount healed is not worth much once the players pass level 50.

Druid/Rogue
- Shadow Contract: This skill functions as intended. The amount of dark damage increased is still significantly lower than the amount of earth damage increased. There is no damage advantage to using the dark damage skills. This skill does not add enough to consider this combination as a major damage dealer. The amount of mana gained is also negligible when the player passes level 50.

Item Set Skills

Priest
- Altar of Shadoj: This skill functions as intended. The amount of damage is fixed. It is not effected by any stats.
- Mana Rune Stone and Mage's Repayment: This skill functions as intended. The amount of mana returned is not worth much when the player passes level 55. Priests do not have mana issues unless they are losing mana through an enemy debuff.

Mage
- Stone Scale Blade: Since this skill deals Earth damage, the amount of damage it deals is considerably less than other skills the mage has.
- Lucky Chance: This skill gives you another skill to use instead of just using the additional skill to begin with.
- Earth Collapse: Since this skill deals Earth damage, it does not deal very significant amounts of damage.
- Sword of Divinity: Since this skill deals Light damage, it does not deal very significant amounts of damage.

Warden
- Unbind: This skill does not function as intended. Warden's pets are not effected by these effects anyways.

Enemy Skills: Some enemy skills are not properly labelled as beneficial, bleeds, poisons, curses, helpless, or harmful effects. I cannot list them all as the unmarked ones outnumber the properly marked ones.

Thank you for reading the list and considering these as problems as much as the users.

Ranix, the Mage Item Set skill is called "Lucky Chance" (next to useless) and the new one from the Jenny's set (forget what it's called) is pretty useless as well (light damage).

Not sure why you threw in Iceblade, does that mean I can make a list of skills I want to see "fixed" (ie nerfed) also? Just pointing out that putting that in there is inconsistent with the rest of the post, and potentially opens up controversy. We really don't want another highly useful post being derailed again, do we? Ice Blade belongs in another post entitled "Skills I want to see nerfed." It isn't broken the way you mean in this post. Whether it's "broken" at all is a matter of opinion.

I would add the mage skill Meteor Shower (no elemental mastery, so low low damage). Also add S/P skill Spiritual Leader- it doesn't stack with any other cast-speed increasing skills, so people ask S/P's not to use it. I think that qualifies as broken.

Excellent post- I was looking at the Sorceror and Champion skills on Rom Welten, and it seems like they have less useless skills than some of the old classes, it would be nice if Runewaker would look at and reevaluate some of the older class skills that didn't work out quite the way they meant them to.

When I say broken, I mean outdated or in need of repair. That is to say if some skill uses a formula that is built for level 50 play and scales poorly or over the top in the 50+ range.

I had mentioned Lucky Chance because I had heard many complaints about it functioning like that. I hadn't heard anything about the new one that deals Light damage. I will definitely add Meteor Shower and Sword of Divinity to the list.

I mentioned Ice Blade as a skill to fix, not because it is OP or I hate P/S (I don't because I have played P/S). Iceblade has a broken damage formula because it hasn't been touched since it was originally released. If you feel that it functions as intended and deals fair damage, I'd be happy to take it off the list for you.

I don't see too many S/P around and am unaware that this is a problem. Spiritual Leader does not stack with any other effects including potions? Does it cancel out all other speed boosting effects?

Thanks for your input on some broken skills I have no experience with.

About the new classes, it is hard to say if these skills will be useful or not as they haven't been tested in game. I do agree that the new elite skills seem to be more useful.

- Elven Eye: This skill functions as intended. The amount of mana consumed per second is outrageous. 5% mana cost per second means a maximum of 20 seconds in duration. Realistically, scouts do not regenerate mana very much in battle so acivating this skill would drain the player's mana pool unless heavily monitored.
- Focus: This skill functions as intended. The amount of physical attack gained from having an excellent amount of wisdom is much too small. Even as a bonus, this skill does very little to aid the player in the level 50+ content.

ok, i am one of the few ppl that actually plays a s/d...and i disagree with 2 of these points...

1) since the ch4 scout nerf, SPA is one of the highest dps skills a scout has, rivaling piercing arrow and i use this in my rotation very often, weaving it in with VA, shot, and piercing. I do believe there should be a 50% chance for the stun and a 50% for the DoT, to ensure that it does one or the other. I hate using it and it giving no extra effect.

2) elven eye IS a skill that drains your mana extremely fast, but if you use VA, the elite skill devour blood will return it to full in no time at all...devour blood pretty much refills your mana every 30 seconds, and elven eye is a skill that you can turn on/turn off at will, like BA used to be, so you will only have it up while your in combat. the amount of mana used by this skill is of no issue at all.

focus is the only s/d elite skill that i would have fixed...if they only buffed it to 75%(or even better, 100%), it would be a worthwhile skill, but as of now it gives me about 1% of my total PA

all in all i love s/d and feel nothing major needs to be changed except focus (and the effects of SPA)
u all just leave me and my s/d out of the nerf-feast(i mean "balancing") and I'll be happy.
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

mages should stack dex. word.

Whether it works as intended depends on who you ask. If you ask p/s's they will say yes. If you ask people killed by the handful of OP dps p/s's in siege war, some will concede that it does reasonable damage, and others will say it is terribly broken and needs to be nerfed into the ground for PvP.

I am having trouble figuring out in what way the skill's damage formula is broken? It's a priest skill that does decentish damage, is that how it's broken? It does less damage than the priest/mage skill Ice Wind Blade, so if it is broken, they both are.

No one (until now at least) argues that the skill is "broken" in any way in PvE. In PvE, all agree that the skill works exactly as intended. "Wow I can kill mobs too fast, as a priest I am supposed to have to stand here and cast rising tide to kill stuff, this skill must be broken" isn't something that occurs to most priests.

That's why I asked you to take it off this list. It opens up the possibility that this thread will become yet another "let's QQ about skills we don't like being killed by in PvP" thread, and we have too many of those already. Many many skills have been unchanged since their inception, mostly because they work. If we were to open this discussion to include "skills we want to see changed for PvP" it will soon devolve into a QQ fest of rogues vs p/s's vs mages vs rogues.

Ice Blade, at least within the narrow context of this discussion as I understand it (skills which don't work as intended, or are not useful to their classes) is fine. Ice Blade works exactly as intended (ie performs like it's tooltip describes), and is useful for it's class.

Spiritual Leader does overwrite casting speed buffs like Ancient Spirit Water iirc. Hopefully someone can confirm that for me, my scout/priest friend quit the game a while ago :(

M/R : Shadow Protection - This has been talked about forever and never had a response. Shadow Protection not only doesn't stack with speed buffs but over writes them too. If you don't make sure to cancel the buff when you cast a speed pot it will just waste the pot and reset your timer. Given that any class can get Clear Thought pots and they do not stack with Shadow Protection, a skill that should be a class defining buff is basically reduced to a whopping 1% improvement.

With the addition of an actual Warlock class, M/R needs a little definition (not that it didn't before)...

Not lost- this is an effort to head it off at the pass. Nip it in the bud.

Yes, I forgot, Shadow Protection has the same exact problem as Spiritual Leader. It's idiotic. It should stack with the rest of the cast-speed buffs. Having it overwrite your expensive, long-cd buffs is just salt in the wound.

Grace of life needs a fix too. I'm tired of it being able to overwrite my touch of the unicorn. If I use a touch while i have grace already, I'm immune to it and the pot is wasted. Hope this is fixed.

I agree that the damage of ice blade is much too high for the costs.

Thanks for the contributions so far. I do not have access to every class combination and I rely on you guys to fuel this thread.

I added a few new things, changed a few of the problems, and took out Iceblade. It seems to me that Iceblade really doesn't have a downfall but isn't completely overpowered. The mana cost is a bit low but it is the same case with most mana based skills for both Druid and Priest. I did not add Touch of the Unicorn as this thread is mainly about skills.

The warden/warrior combo has a ton of useless buffs that last like 10 seconds and too many cool downs to be affective. The Coat of Arms skill is basically worthless in my opinion and they need to remove the 8 second cooldown from Beast Chop to make them a bit more effective.

Poison shroud is not a broken skill, the damage is actually quite high, mine hits for nearly 6k per tick and its only at skill lvl 55 and it lasts for 12 seconds with the other elite to extend the duration. I'm pretty sure they changed it without telling us to go off of mainhand damage, as i didn't stat my r/d with mattck at all. The only portion of it that does not function at all is the dark damage at the end. If it worked like ti should, every enemy that dies from this skill, or lives through it's entire duration, should deal dark damage to the surrounding enemies, making for quite a nasty chain of magical damage spikes, however I have extensively tested and retested and it never does the dark damage under any circumstances. As for the skill itself, its a powerful skill if you invest points into it and even in siege its awesoem because you can hit people camping your gates without being targeted or take out entire piles of traps in a few hits and not even have to hang around the area. Just cast and walk away.

Druid skill Recover is kind of broken. When the friendly target (even ourselves) gets magic immunity (Forestsong cake, Serestum, Fearless etc); recover does nothing and we get the message target is immune to it.

Speaking of broken skills, does anyone actually find Blessed Water Springs or whatever it's called - the priest skill to be useful? Water resistance... whoopee do! How many Ice Blades can you resist with the Blessed Water Springs? NONE.

It's useful with the elite that modifies it to add increased received heals! :D Alone, however? Not really XD However, resistances have to be higher than a person's magical accuracy to even begin working, and magic accuracy is so high vs the buff alone that there's almost no hope of a player resisting it. The only things that have chances of resistance are mobs who have an unrealistic amount of resistances.
