Gold drops from monsters

So on many servers there is a distinct lack of gold in circulation and many of us who have stuff to sell cannot sell it because only a select few players/guilds (I call them hoarders) hold the majority of the server's wealth in their hands and force all other players to barter. While this may seem good to some people, the phrase "Money makes the world go 'round" is correct, it's needed and if no one has any, the trade market comes to a screeching halt.

While there are ways to earn money, vendoring, finding high demand items, selling diamonds, doing quests, some of these options simply aren't available to people who can't afford high-end gear. And quite frankly, the amount of gold you receive for quests is abysmal. I just killed off 10 super deadly poisonous scorpions, can I get more than a stingy 4,000 gold?

To solve this problem, I'm suggesting that monsters drop coins of varying amounts based on their level relative to yours but capped at a certain amount to prevent level 55's from killing level 75 monsters and looting oodles of coins. Almost EVERY other MMORPG out there has a function like this where players earn gold by killing monsters and various gear is simply a bonus. Limited instances such as HoS, ZS, DL, VN etc. should give players who complete them a set amount of gold (say... 100,000 for normal mode completion of HoS) to encourage end game players to run them more and incentivize lower level players to level up quicker and try new things!

This instance completion gold bonus would not be available for instances repeatable during a 24 hour time period such as KBN, Grafu, etc.

I dont know what you think is a good amount of gold, but most players can easily accumulate anywhere between 20 -100 million pretty easy. Just doing all your quests and dailies will get you well over 10 mil gold. There are numerous ways for players to make money you do not need to add it to mob drops. As mentioned above, doing that will just promote for gold sellers which in turn means more gold buyers, which means more scammers, and lead the game down a road that is nothing but bad times.

In my opinion, no game is complete without gold farmers to thwart ;D

Then please tell me what game(s) you are playing so I can avoid them.

Reroll Govinda then. Our server is pretty much overflowing with diamonds and gold right now. Just about everything sells after our 3 month depression.

There are phases of good economy, and there are phases of bad economy. I don't really see anything wrong with it, every economy goes through these cycles, and I don't think monsters dropping gold will change that.

If we had monsters drop gold, we'd probably get inflation and it would be no easier for people to get geared anyway. You'll have people using it as an excuse to raise prices of everything (which will then cause everyone else to raise prices in response). And of course, in the long term, increased gold -> more inflation, like a slower version of gold sellers introducing mass amounts of gold onto the market.

But I'll leave the rest to Sir Ebil, our Buisiness/Economy expert on the forums :D

Way too much gold in the game. I could easily go up and down a few hundred million gold in a day sometimes. Making gold is relatively easy but takes time. Simple farming gives me millions of gold a week. Instance runs, just for stats, gives me 10s of millions of gold a week. A decent piece of gold could sell for 10s of millions. During the rune event I made nearly $500 million gold. I spent almost all of it buying diamonds and proofs.

If anything, I would say that Mattyb understands the issue.

He'd have to sell 50 stacks or so to get 500m... I know people have them saved up, but I don't think anyone would have 50 stacks of them...

Yeah.. they totally could. And depending on the price of them on his server it wouldn't have had to be 50 stacks. OUr stacks were up to 15ishM a stack by the end of the event. Or he could have farmed them during the event to supplement the stacks he already had.

If he was a rune hoarder... it's totally plausible that he had that many runes.

I am surprised nobody mentioned KS farms.

I am a gold and junk hoarder too.

I personally have maybe 10 stacks of every rune on my alts and 6b(illion) gold.

When I was still playing, I easily had alts with hundreds of EVERY type of rune of em. At one point I had stacks of tier 5 and tier 6's laying in wait. I know a few other people on govinda who had more runes than I did, so ya it's not only plausible, it's happening.

The biggest problem is that we are starting to get stacks of tier IV and V runes which do nothing for these events.
A real sysadmin knows how to change the time.
If you make the same mistake while trying to make up for the previous one, you are doing something wrong.

As much as I'd love to say I offer consulting services, the scope of things broken is too large.
