Bring Cedric NPC back temporarily

Since the events happened which we do not talk about anymore our economy on pretty much every server has gone to hell.
On Artemis dias were 50k or so per now selling over 200k with very little supply.

Was hoping over a couple of the dia sales that prices would even out but they just aren't I'd like to suggest we bring back the Cedric npc who sold 15 dias at 30k or 60k w/e just for a while to level out the market both lower total server gold and increase dia supply if only for a month.

I know countless people in game that have just stopped playing because they can't progress with the prices.

This is actually a very good idea against inflation but I doubt we will see him again. Its crazy to think that 3-4 months ago dias at 38k were considered "expensive" on Palenque and they now stand a whooping 200k each. Surprisingly the supply actually has decreased, in both terms, volume and amount of sellers. Hence when someone suggest that the diamond/gold ratio is just like any capitalist market where supply and demand dictate prices I really just have to laugh. Apparently not many understand the concept of monopoly and market power.

PS. Cedric sold 3 diamonds per day per account not 15 lol but he charged 30k each if I am not mistaken or close enough. :D

Cedric sold 15 per day, then he was nerfed to selling only 3/day, and his prices increased to 30k each as well.
Supply and Demand, imo, plays a small role in prices. They do cause small price shifts, but are not usually anything significant. And this game's economy cannot even be compared to a real world market, because in the real world, you don't get hackers duping billions of gold... Although the effect is rather similar - you get massive inflation.

Exactly, the game does not work on the same parameters as a real market would on the real world, hence the theories of supply and demand cannot be applied. As for Cedric, I only got him to sell me 3 diamonds or maybe I just haven't been playing long enough to noticed the nerf.

whats the use to bring cedric back for a few days and then take him away again???

the people with tons of diamonds, botters, and or legit players with multiple accounts with just horde up the diamonds again ex. ah trade to their own accounts.

the problem is due to lack of people who actually are buying diamonds from rom itself, then there are the free to play players with tons of gold willing to buy the diamonds now at outrageous price compared to a few months back.

cedric wont change a thing, when people are willing to buy diamonds at the price now, remember its the players with diamonds who are controlling the market now,

and yes, most players wont be able to do much without diamonds, girls best friend, maybe, but now our worst nightmare...

The exact problem is that people aren't buying lots of dias from rom itself and yeah lots of people with gold though. So how would practically giving a small amount of dias to every character every day not slowly help?
The reason people are spending so much isn't even for casual itemshop stuff usually its things a lot of players have come to need while playing- bankpages/houseenergy etc where getting just some themselves would stop a lot of the people who buy in AH decreasing demand. At the same time that would be a huge amount of dias coming into the server as if a bunch of people were actually buying increasing total server supply.
Not to mention he was a massive gold sink which is always good in MMOs especially with our pitiful gear vendor price.

Honestly it seems pretty open and close to me I know some people exploited him a bit but I'm only talking temporarily here.

I used to buy diamonds outside of diamond sales because I had confidence in the direction of the game. I'm positive others did too.

People don't have confidence in how the game is being run, people don't have confidence in the leadership, and therefore people don't buy as many diamonds as they used to.

Completly true... I used to buy DIAS from Jguy, as well I used to buy dias from Frogster NA and even Frogster EU. (there are still some left overs :))

Since lack of clear leadership and later bad tries in leadership, I decided to listen to GM @ the time (my signature) so I did not participate anymore.

IS should be completely reworked to allow users for 10-15 bucks a month to progress well in game... absurd such as $2K to level your pet to L60 (not even level cap for pet) should be fixed long time ago... and it would make everyone happy... but there is just lots of miscommunication, broken promises and week after week of disappointment in sales...

I said more then once, there is nothing wrong with game, but bad sales decisions and lack of support did its magic for me...

Back to the suggestion...

I think it would help RW out a lot to have Cedric return every now and then just to show how nice it is to have diamonds :)

Cedric will change nothing to the economy, NOTHING. I have multiple accounts, mutliple..... for me it doesn't change if he's there or not. You got players that played the AH, selling gold for diamonds at 70K per and putting the diamonds back for 150K to 200K. Check Reni's AH and it is easy to spot who is doing it now, it's no fairytale no more.

Endgamers don't care for the prices of diamonds, they are mostly free to play, why? because people keep buying gear for 150M a piece, hence the free to play.

I buy my own diamonds, IS needs a revamp as per ThePit and he'S working on it, amount of diamonds when bought from Gameforge should be increased to make it worth buying them anymore for real life money, way too few you get to make it worth buying them and then selling to people.

If it keeps going in this direction, you will see F2P players leave because no diamonds will be available to them and they don't want to spend THEIR real money on the game. They won't have diamonds to buy those new plussing jewels or drillers, they are already losing their minds over the fact the level 90 jewels are not out yet loll.

Why upgrade to level 82 gear from level 80 gear?? NO REASON OR NEED FOR IT AT ALL. You will gain about what? 5% more than 80 gear but spend 300$ of diamonds to T8 +16 them, hell no.

I"m finishing my level 80 gear and will not upgrade till level 85 and even 90, wanna run instances, well, learn to play together, even with people from other guilds, be smart and make friends. 12 people intances were meant to be runned as 12 people instances with 5 level lower gear, not burns with only 5 people.

Be smart, run it, gear it, set skill it and keep running it.

The need of the many, outweigh the need of the few.

You will find a lot of good people on Reni willing to help and run stuff ;-)

I agree that might be a bit too late for Cedric to make any big difference... except some F2P might stay a bit longer alive... like life support... drop @ the time. 8|

If there was one good thing that came from Froggie and RW was the concept of how GREAT the Item Shoppe items are.

Every few levels, we're tempted with bags of IS goodies... for a long time, we just take them for granted until we realize they are special. ( normally by the 3rd or 4th toon )

In order to get your players hooked on something, you gotta give them a taste...

In this case, Cedric can give players that don't buy dias w/ real money a way to get some of that... and mebbe become addicted enough to buy dias?

Basically, I'm not saying to keep Cedric around forever, but bring him in for an event or 2. Let players know what it's like to have a few diamonds.

Heck, I remember one time we all got 10 dias just for having toons over lvl 10 or some such.

They just said they aren't bringing Cedric back. They said they aren't cause people exploited it....

Yes they mean all the people that made multiple accounts and drained the NPC every single day. You all abused it so much that they wont bring it back.

YOu are right the supply is so little, that is cause no one is buying and if they are buying, few are selling. Why will they help by taking possible money out of their pocket?? That doesn't make sense. Can we stop beating the dead horse please? You keep asking for it, you got an answer that they wont do it. Just drop it.

If you want diamonds, either cough up the gold, or cough up the cash.

Everyone in the game CANT be F2P or else the game wont be around.... I don't get why you all cant grasp this idea. The more people who want to be at the top as F2P... the less there is to go around. Making it harder for ALL the F2P players.

They also have said that the economy is player driven and not something they intend to step in and alter... So just drop it, and quit beating a dead horse. Pay the money or don't.

Edit to add: I think I am starting to love you Zid...... Did you all of a sudden change.. or did I?

maybe it is just that I am not drinking as much lol

Also Edit to add:

Diamonds as a gold sink is a horrible idea, cause those with billions of gold will just prevent themselves from having to spend money...... which keeps the game running. Instead if you want gold sinks, fine, do PoMs etc. Things that higher players would spend money on, that would give an influx of gear, which then would need IS items. As the gold supply drops you have a better chance of the diamond price coming down. Cause yes a previous poster stated, there are those with billions of gold willing to pay the price. As long as people are paying the prices it will continue to increase in price. How do you get gear cheaper? As a person has to keep putting the items up for auction and they keep not selling, they drop their price. This is your only change to drop dia prices. Don't buy, buy your own, quit paying the price, another gold sink, etc. Most of those options are player driven. Don't expect GF to come in and impose anything to change the economy on purpose, cause then it wouldn't be player driven at all. At that point they might as well just start selling gold.

cedric wont solve anything, and as far as an itemshop revamp goes, i see it failing horribly.. many things were taken away such as costume packs and even single costume pieces, prices will probably go up and those that cant afford to buy things in stacks will be screwed because single item purchase options are very few.

thepit wants to make an itemshop that is useful for all the communities in RoM without the "fluff" stuff, however there are 3 or more problems but ill just put 3

1. our community is not the same as everyone elses so why does our itemshop need to be? unless they put EVERY item shop item back in permanently there will always be people upset and refusing to buy dias for what they want/need,

2. the prices are growing everytime there is an itemshop change, and now that they are adding new plussers its just going to keep going up because of things like having to buy a minimum of 5 plussers when you only need 1, 2, 3, or 4. its just greedy, where are the options for people that cant afford to alot of dias (doesnt matter if they bought them from gameforge or with ingame gold) forcing people to overbuy is bad.

3. sometimes the fluff stuff is nice to have such as gear/weapon aggs, if the item shop turns into a strictly "pay to win shop" with no other reason to open it then what is the point of the game anymore... (yes im fully aware the game is mainly p2w but i like to buy useless stuff just to have it, im a hoarder, 100 chests and bank and bags fully unlocked and still have to have alts hold things for me)

i honestly used to spend about as much on vanity items as i did actual gear improvement, i'm not saying that it's the right way to play, nor am i saying it got me particularly far in the game, but it's what i enjoyed...and since i'm trying to stay f2p until GF cleans up their act, the only thing that would get me to throw some more money at the game right now is the costumes and aggs...

i don't p2w...i pay to have a character i enjoy playing, in a game that is fun, and that for me doesn't necessary mean having the best gear, or running the hardest instances, or having the highest stats...while i may be a minority, i am sure almost everybody has at least at one point bought some frivolous item, even if it's an adv or standard agg, it's still "fluff"...

Cedric or no Cedric, Palenque needs a gold sink urgently! Dias are almost hitting 300k and to think I sold a few 1 week ago at 190k thinking that only an idiot would actually buy them. This, i'm afraid, is not "market driven" nor is it a result from a decrease in supply. I have a hard time believing that the number of people who bought diamonds about 4 months suddenly became extinct. Even if this is the case (that a significant number of diamond buyers stopped purchasing) the increase in diamond prices is disproportional to such a decrease. Furthermore, this is not explained by people buying everything and reselling later at a higher price. People have always done this and there has not been so much inflation. Cedric, POMs, sell golden eggs for gold, reintroduce the crafting festival (let the flaming begin :D ), at this point anything will help curve inflation. However, this must be preceded by getting rid of the gold hack in the first place. As long as the gold hack where people sell these "magical" ingots for thousands continues, the whole entire commerce of the game collapses. I almost feel as to simply stop buying or selling anything altogether and just stay here staring at my monitor watching as my savings in gold vanishes and turns into dust.

Agreed. Honestly, I found it odd that ThePit would want to dismiss "Fluff stuff" as unimportant. As far as I've seen in Cash shop MMO trends, selling fluff stuff and convenience, and maintaining it is really the ultimate goal (although they usually fail and degenerate into p2w's).

While selling specific gear related items that almost every player would need is nice, purposely tailoring the item shop to be p2w sounds like a recipe for an even bigger disaster than this game is already in.

yea Zid I guess I am becoming Disturbed, I just have been finding myself more and more reading your posts and going "RIGHT ON!" I don't remember that happening at all, till about a month ago. hah. Now it is like every post I agree with, or darn near everyone.

Now to the diamond prices... ok people who say the inflation/supply and demand is not what they think caused it... Ok you say the hackers duped gold... Well they also were duping diamonds!, that means the flooded BOTH sides of the market. Didn't you ever realize when diamonds were 40-50k a pop all the cheap ones were sold by the same people with a very generic name and they had TENS OF THOUSANDS of diamonds up for sale? They were flooding the market with hacked diamonds. Yes they could produce diamonds, gold, poms, WHATEVER they wanted. There was a video on youtube of a guy making 30,000 diamonds for himself. It looked actually easier than making gold. So yes, when the hackers were banned you saw 80% of the diamonds go away... There used to be well over 500 stacks of diamonds in 100-5000 incriments up. Then all the hackers got banned... it went to less than 100 auctions and a whole lot of them 1 diamond a piece..... How do you explain that?

Here is a rule of thumb, when you are trying to find out what happened, and why.... The first question you ask is "what has changed?". If you computer breaks you don't start replacing random stuff. You try to find any little hint/clue as to WHY, so you fix it correctly. So lets take this: Diamonds prices- 40k a piece, Hackers get banned, within 2 weeks Dia prices up to 100k a piece.... So what changed... THE HACKERS GOT BANNED!

So yes the diamond seller market was probably gutted 80%, if not more, cause most of them were NOT legit diamonds. Therefore, you didn't see the usual inflation you would have seen cause the hacked diamonds were creating a false market flooded with diamonds. Real easy to sell diamonds cheap when they aren't costing you RL money. What you are seeing a rapid return to what diamond prices would have been if the hackers never existed.... well to some extent cause if the hackers never existed, so many diamond buyers wouldn't have stopped, and so many people spending RL money wouldn't have quit. So you have TWO reasons the diamond market shrank. Demoralization, and the hackers manipulating the market.

I know you all never cared who you were buying diamonds from when they were 40k a piece... heck I didn't when I did buy diamonds. I did find it weird Asdsaf was selling over 20k worth of diamonds and undercutting everyone and never understood how someone spending that much RL money would do that...... Till I found out the hackers were creating diamonds. Then it all made sense.

The more people that wanna be end game and not spend a dime.... that means there is a huge demand for diamonds... from people that have stockpiled billions of gold having the system favor them for so long. So many diamond buyers have quit or just quit selling, meaning 1/5 the supply of diamonds, if not lower. So now the F2P players are fighting each other over who can grab those diamonds faster and they sell like hot cakes. I put up 100 diamonds on Artemis just to see, at 200k a piece. They were gone, bought buy an endgamer, in a very well known guild.... within 30 minutes.

Most in the game, if you put something up and it sells fast, you put it up for more... You find out how much you can get for it. As long as the F2P players are spending that much on the diamonds, they wont stop going up. I personally don't think diamonds should be more than 100k-150k, but at the same time... GF is not to blame, Diamond sellers are not to blame, ... it is the people paying it cause they got THAT much gold laying around, and have for years.

This is something we predicted before, much before DIAS went again over 100K. Supply and demand regulate economy, and without good gold sink, gold becomes not so valuable currency.
Our economy got fixed once we had Owenstein introduced. It was gold sink, every single day I would use main and 3 alts to do exchanges. That required a lot of gold, but was worth it. You get something in game worth for not so worth gold. Without gold sink, there is just more and more gold, yet not enough DIAS, as there is less and less people willing to spend money on game.

This turns into hyperinflation, and last time we had it was once huge amount of players were baned after anniversary DIAS fiasco. Don't forget, most of those were people who had spent money on game and refused to proceed with payment after Frogster NA revised amount of purchased DIAS.

I suggested to allow DIAS in AH, but some refused and said that gold would be obsolete, but current price of DIAS just proves that point, gold is obsolete currency in game.
