Suggestions regarding Gold Spammers

Noticed they are starting to pop up more often in the start-up areas. Is it possible to run a filter program similar to how curse words are blocked, but instead of blocking text it searches for a string of keywords that gold spammers use. Whenever those particular words or phrases are used, an alert would be sent to a GM, who could then investigate that toon. If it's a spammer, BAM! ban hammer smacks them in the face. This could work in conjunction to the spam report button.

Zidlef posted a while ago on something like this to use the report tool. I started to use it and it is great, works pretty fast.

Yes, the new Report Tool works. Please use it to report gold spammers, botting or hackers.
Related to the 'Report Spam' button in game, that will only silence/blacklist the user for your current session.

On Artemis, it's the same link... same site.

Can't something be done on the server side to have that be a blocked word or something like that?

I know about the report tool (mentioned it in original post), but I was just suggesting as an extra layer of effort a filter ability that automatically reports to a GM in conjunction with the report tool. So you would have people using the tool to report spammers, but then also an in-game alert would go to a GM stating that toon X has sent a world message using these terms.

And along with Bleedingblak, could GF add common spammer words/phrases to the filter list?s

Someone in another thread suggested filtering messages to an IRC channel. In an emulator I program for for an entirely different game there is a plugin that we use/offer that has a user customisable list of words to filter. It doesn't block those words, but filters them into an IRC channel with GM's or into a text file that can be viewed later. The GM's can then take that filtered message and block/ban/mute based on what was said. Obviously it doesn't filter out Personal Messages or anything, but Guild, party, say and world chat it filters.

The plugin for our emulator is written in C. Even if RoM is written in C++ it should be able to be done with no difficulty. Unless RoM was written in BASIC or COBOL or something (I sometimes wonder), it should be possible for RW to implement this into their code with little difficulty.

Nobody has specifically mentioned whether the spam messages are appearing in WC. I do know this happens. I happen to use the Chat Guard No Spam addon from Curse. Ive had guildies complain about WC spams, but the only times I've ever seen them have been immediately after logging in. They show up once in one of the little pop-up windows (which I normally have set to be disabled), but the spams themselves never show up in my chat log. So, I would hazard a guess that Chat Guard is generally working. It may be that it hasn't quite loaded completely and a single WC spam manages to make its way in on my display, but only once. (Unfortunately, it seems to be the same spam website, though it's made by a different spam bot each time.)

It's been mentioned a number of times before that /say chat spammers can not be blocked by addons such as Chat Guard. The best solution is to use the Report Tool at http://report.runesofmagic.com/index.php which will flag that specific spam bot for a cleanup on Aisle 3.

The idea is good until they change chat content, even so it's weird that we have chat filter when you need to link some gear with "Cave" on the name and we cannot have staff creating filter for this kind of stuff. IMO the more effective way to stop gold spammers is getting their hard drive serial number on install or even putting some sort of shield on the game, otherwise is just a waste of time, since you report one today and 2 more are created 5 minutes later.
