I think it would really help out everyone if RW would put Crafting on-par with Adventuring...
Here's how I suggest it be implemented:
1. Mats drop from mobs as well as mats that can be gathered; RW attempted something like this around lvl 60 or so and pretty much stopped doing this.
2. Recipes drop from all mobs
3. Rare recipes can be dropped by Instance mobs that improve upon Instance gear
4. Rare recipes can by dropped by Instance bosses for... even more powerful Instance gear.
3 and 4 are where I'd like to spend most of my time:
Basically, mobs in instances would not just drop mats for recipes, but also the recipes themselves to craft things "about the level" of the Instance in question. This way, people can still farm instances & give the recipes/mats to people they trust to craft them the gear they want; or sell them to crafters that can make them.
Bosses now, would drop recipes for the "best gear" available for that Instance. This gives 'Leet adventurers something to grind other than stats; they have to farm mats to make the best gear in the Instance. Of course, Instances will still drop really good gear; but the best gear will come from the recipe drops. And of course, the "best gear" recipes have mats that only bosses drop.
The best part is that regular Instance mobs will drop recipes to improve the instance gear. ie, you have a nice blue lvl 99 sword... you kill a mob and it drops the recipe to improve the sword... this would be a way for a blacksmith to turn that blue into a purple, orange or brown version @ the risk of "damaging" that sword ( lowering the +, tier, color, etc. ).
Now, when we add this all together we get the potential to make RoM something for adventurers and crafters alike. Whatever adventurers find in the dungeons, crafters can potentially improve upon.
tldr: Instances drop recipes & mats; crafters can use those recipes to make/improve instance gear.
