Put RoM on Steam

The title kinda really says it all....put RoM on steam, and you don't even really need to advertise and new players will flock to the game...

I like this idea. Not only so my friends see when I am logged in, but then it can count the number of hours we are logged in.. ugh that might not be so good. But yes I try a lot of F2P games through steam actually and I think a lot would try RoM. I would like to use that to launch the game as well. Could even get them to put acheivements in ;)

Not sure how this would work.

Would it have to go through greenlight or something? I'm not sure.

Only thing I found, but I think that is only for indie developers.

What would the download be like, Currently when they new games come out the downloads go almost to zero. What would it be like with ROM which takes so long to download anyway.

You also have to give up some control of the game and be responsive to the community to be on steam That I do not think would ever happen.

RoM on browser didn't require a download, so its definitely possible. I think its really a question of how much resources they want to invest to perfect the performance.

Yes it did. The browser version of RoM downloaded the parts of the game it required as needed. By the time you reached endgame, it was very likely you'd have the entire game downloaded. It just did it in a different way than having to download an entire client.

Steam with other MMOs what it does it is launches the launcher. Don't mean to bring up another game but planetside 2 through steam, when you go to play it, it brings up the normal patcher window and goes from there like RoM does. Steam pretty much just launches the launcher... kinda like how the new GF thing launches the RoM launcher.

that's what I was thinking, but it will still get RoM's name out there into the PC gaming community...right now it is really a "cult game", and only really spread by word of mouth...

ohh yeah heck yeah I agree, and it shouldn't be hard to get it put on steam... cause all it has to do is launch the launcher!

Get it done Number 1!

No.

Unless Gameforge removes their poor excuse for a launcher.

What we'd likely have is Steam (a CDN) launching a launcher (GF's launcher, also somewhat a CDN) which would launch a launcher/patching client (RoM's patching client), which would launch an actual game (client.exe i.e. Runes of Magic the game).

Jguy is right, it would need to go from steam right to the RoM launcher, and bypass the GF launcher in order for people to not get fed up with it. Personally, I have seen the GF launcher exactly once.

Launcher doesn't even sound like a real word after that post :p
