Nothing is impossible with enough time, staff and money. There currently isn't enough time, staff or money to fix even minor issues in the game. Siege is still in beta, classes are totally unbalanced every event is bugged to some extent some totally. There isn't enough to fix those things so where is all the time, staff and money to merge servers going to come from and what are you willing to give up to make it so.

Can we have every thread on server merges just closed when they start since it is a waste of everyone's key strokes. I have seen a version of this thread come up every months for 3 years and nothing ever comes or will come out of it. Gameforge said no, they said why they said no. They said it will never change. What else is there to talk about?

(yet could not or did not introduce the Au into the US siege)

Many Au players asked for transfers and were told no. ThePitt did mention in the meeting that there were options for server merges but also admitted that they had no idea of how they worked.

Mentioned earlier was the beta test toons. Heck If i could only have my toon and anything he carried in his bags I would take that deal over starting again any day. During my time playing this game I invested thousands of RL $$ into Frogster and Gameforge.

It still took me a good 6-8 months to get to endgame status. Granted I've learnt a lot since I first started playing and the cost wouldn't be as great as it was knowing what I do now, but that knowledge is also the reason why I won't start again on another server the cost to gear up again is too great.
Everybody with 2 brain cells can come into the forums and make up a story within 10 minutes about how they got banned for nothing.
Everybody with 0 functional brain cells will jump on any good story and simply start bashing either us Mods, the Support or GF per se.

We have been informed by the technical staff that direct server merges are not possible. This has been a consistent message from the start of the game.

probably the main problem between 2 servers is the fact that they have similar id records. it's like merging 2 folders with the same name, some files might ask if : copy or replace. It can be done but the scripting of the db merge has to be flawless or it will mess up pretty bad and even so it will create a lot of problems.

We will have conflicts in ref IDs, same id but different data, also conflicts regarding GUILD/PLAYER NAMES/PLAYER ACCOUNT NAME etc, basically all the string data which was designed to be unique could have duplicates on the other server.

imagine this situation: same char name: "ikill" on both servers. Lets say one will be named to GUEST[ID] and will be given the possibility to change his name ofc for free. He will be pissed off cause he is the one that has to change the name and not the other player. These situation will cause a lot of rage :).

Also even if, let's say, on each server there are a few hundred active players i am sure the DB has recorded tens of thousands of accounts. This is the main problem cause merging 500 with 500 ain't a big deal but merging 100k with 100k might be.... even though 99% are inactive.

Only solution is to change the game philosophy, fix bugs, make it more new comer friendly so that servers get populated like they used 2y ago for example....

This concept could work......
Make a new server and populate it with the players from low population servers and if possible add it the the US siege roster :D

...What? the whole point of the thread was to merge the servers (usually REDUCE the amount of servers in the lineup) and you want to add another? This makes sense towards the topic at hand...how?

Everything is theoretically possible. I've been working with MySQL and MSSQL databases for a little over 15 or so years. It's ALWAYS possible to merge databases.

The problem here is as been stated many times in this thread. The clashing unique entries on each server would completely botch over such a merge. I KNOW there's another Jguy on Osha and Artemis. What to do about that clash of data? Tagging a server name onto the toon's name is not that attractive, and really wouldn't solve anyone's problem.

While a server merge is fairly needed at this point there's no point in beating a dead horse over and over. It's been stated multiple times: "No.". Whether it's possible or not is a moot point. The answer was "No" 4 years ago, 4 months ago and 4 days ago. It will still be "No" 4 days from now, 4 months from now and 4 years from now.

Look, im not saying its totally impossible. Im saying that for the effort and amount of code reworking that you all are talking about, it would make more sense to fix the problems that are running players off both time wise and financially.

A server merge would be a short term solution with a cost greater than the long term fixes.

I love how this is the "reason" that keeps being advertised. If this is really the true reason, then the current Gameforge technical staff needs to be fired & hire mercenaries (LOL) from Tahadi technical staff to come over to do it for us. Tahadi runs the Middle Eastern version of RoM. A few years ago, they merged the Philippines servers into the Middle Eastern servers just fine, so it IS possible, but Gameforge's brains aren't brainy enough LOL. Some stuff they couldn't move though, like mail & auction house items. Since they shut down the RoM PH site ages ago, the only place I can still find a copy of their newsfeed about the merging is at portal.e-games.com.ph/main.php/runes-of-magic-merger-details-and-faqs

Only the top three (3) characters of each account based on level will be migrated and put in cold storage. Level base is on the higher of the two (2) classes. (We advise to delete all but 3 characters to be safe)

FAQs

1. Do we need to download a patch for this or install a new game client?

You will have to download a new game client from http://rom.tahadi.com/newthanks/Download-Page.html

2. Where do we send our tickets?

We will only be accepting tickets regarding the merge for 1 month. Please send ticket for all other concerns to Tahadi Games once your account has been activated. Any tickets that are not about merge will be forwarded to Tahadi Games.

3. What will happen to my diamonds?

All diamonds will be converted back to E-Points and the conversion from EP to diamonds will be closed for the time being.

4. Will my items in the bank and bag disappear?

You get to keep everything except anything that has to do with guilds, once your character is released from “cold storage”. Items inside your transmutor box is also saved.

5. How about expiring items, mounts and bag/bank slots?

All expiring items will be lost. For those who bought permanent bag slot III, you won’t be able to keep it once account has been transferred to AE server.

6. What will happen to my Account Username, Guild name, Character name?

All accounts from PH server will be modified to have the prefix or suffix but password will remain the same. (More details to be released soon)
Everyone will be given a free rename when they login in their characters for the first time after cold storage release.

7. What will happen to our guild names and resources?

No guilds will be transferred.

8. Will my quest progression be affected?

All quests will be reset. This gives you a 2nd chance to get quest rewards.

9. What will happen to all my auction house items as well as mail box items?

Unfortunately it will not be included in the transfer so you should clear your mail box and auctions before maintenance of April 21st.

10. What happens to items in my Item Mall bag? What about the unopened Item Mall packages?

We advise everyone to open all your packages bought from Item Mall before the maintenance on Thursday, April 21st or risk losing the contents. Item mall bag contents will be retained just like the bag and bank spaces.

11. Number of arcane charges will they be kept?

Arcane charges will be retained.

12. Will our level be retained? Or rolled back to 55? Or RoM-AR would catch-up on our version before the merge?

All characters will be put in cold storage until AE Server patches to 3.0.6. Once released from “cold storage”, there will be a rename option. We chose to keep everyone in cold storage to prevent any technical issues with difference in versions for both servers and to prevent Tahadi games from nuking everyone back to level 55 and stripped off all Chapter 3 items that you have worked hard for.
While your characters are in “cold storage”, the first new character that you will create will be given a welcome package composed of:

No roll backs will be done but your existing characters will be in cold storage (inactive) until AE server patches 3.0.6.

14. Our diamonds would be converted to EP, how about our rubies, honor points, phirius tokens, and ancient mementos?

You get to keep it all.

15. I hear that AE Item Mall is expensive (1800 dias for a mount?). Any changes on that?

No, but Tahadi Games does Sales every now and then so watch out for those.

16. Can we still top up using E-Points and convert it to diamonds once the merge is complete?

Getting diamonds using E-Points will be available in the future.

17. When can we start playing in the AE server?

May 3, Tuesday.

18. Are all items found in PH, be also made available after merge? Like for example the Item Mall items like Tier Package, Bag of Charges, PFS Bag, Gashas?

Tahadi Games have their own Item shop packages and gashas. There may be some similarities.

19. Why Merge with AE server and not NA/EU? We’re worried on the language barrier.

AE server has a good PH community and is another Asian country. Something along the lines of Asia and western territory and Tahadi/Egames partnership.

20. Will Siege War and other events be adjusted to serve both AE and PH players or will it remain the same?

It will remain the same though Tahadi Games is planning a welcome event on May 3, once all PH players can login with their accounts.

21. What will happen to all the gold?

You get to keep all your gold as of April 19, 8AM.

22. Code of Conduct and policy in AE Server.

ahadi runs the Middle Eastern version of RoM. A few years ago, they merged the Philippines servers into the Middle Eastern servers just fine, so it IS possible, but Gameforge's brains aren't brainy enough LOL. we already agreed that it IS possible. But people also said that what you gave up to allow for a server merge is not worth it, especially given the fact that it wouldent SOLVE A SINGLE THING. You COULD merge all the servers (Given what might be lost in the process) but would htat solve the issue that this game is bugged, that the servers are imballanced, and that players hate each other? No, it would have compounded them.

One of the advantages of the new "ranks" we ex-Mentors received was the ability to see into some of the inner-workings of the game.

Now, I can tell you that technically it is possible to do a server transfer/merge but I also see the reasons why Frogster and now Gameforge say it's not being offered.

I can also see what risks there are to my account in the process and I really don't want it.

I don't know what Tahadi did to offer it to their players but I am glad that Gameforge currently do not offer it & if you could see the things I see, you'd be glad it isn't offered either.

When Runewaker developed RoM, they clearly didn't design it with merges/transfers in mind. That, at least, should be obvious from the fact that it isn't offered.

You have to keep existing players and you have to attract new players. No matter what, people will leave even if the game was perfect, so you need new blood. Imagine starting ROM now .. I don't think you would get to level 20 before quitting due to so many issues. No matter what machine I play on I am constantly getting memory messages and after a short time get kicked off the game. I don't know how many times I've gotten kicked in the middle of a mini-game I just paid 30 tokens to play. Basic functionality is constantly broken. If it's not mail, it's the house or the AH.

Plus, there is not enough exciting content for new players and there aren't enough other lower level players to group with. Then it seems like they are concerned about your level 12 toon getting too uber. Plussing stones that give 10 or more failures in a row for newbs. How do you give new players a taste of what ROM is about with this type of attitude?

I wish I could, but I fear I may even be breaking some rule by telling you what I did.
Okay then, well since a Server Merge is out of the question (whether due to disinterest or "impossible"), pray tell what can be done to fight the ever growing (or rather diminishing) problem of server population? It's my intention to play this game until its bitter end, however, I'd like that bitter end to be a ways away. That said, no amount of money I sink in this game will bring players in.

It's up to Gameforge to decide how to make servers popular again. Server merges are quite possible. If your 'technical team' says is itsn't, that's a clear sign they are just being lazy or Gameforge needs a new one. While there are some sacrifices that would have to be made, I would much rather lose a couple pieces of gear or my character's name (and get to choose a new one) than play on a server with 5 active people on at one time. While that's an exaggeration, give RoM a year or so and it won't be. :rocketlauncher:

Server merges doesn't increase the number of players. Its still the exact same number of players, and the exact same issues that drive people away. They aren't going to make any more $$ than before. Those issues needs to be fixed, and lack of advertisement addressed before GF will see more profit. And they need to calm the current disgruntled population, because new players aren't going to stay when every older player tells them how much this game sucks, etc.

And hopefully, GF hires a new marketing team like they hired a new IS team. Because the current one thinks that advertisements for this game should be like a game of hide and seek where you'll have to work extremely hard to find an Ad for this game. Sorry, but that's just ridiculous. If all the people on the forums have a hard time finding ANY ads for this game, you're doing something wrong.

You would think that in some cases a merger would ultimately be cheaper than paying the extra utility bill to run a sever with nearly no one on it, However Palenque has players on if from almost as far away as Australia (Fiber Optic wise) and i think its one of the reasons people cry hacks due to poor connection quatlity (as well as those of us from the west coast of the US, or anyone with over 125 ping for that matter).
