I laughed when I read the thread title. There are no lag free zones. Sure, there are areas which are less laggier then others, but not lag free.
Regarding these events and to address the real lag problem, they either need to:
1) Do something similar to what ycavan stated...have an event server activated by an NPC.
Pros:
- Can setup the course ahead of time with no players interfering.
- Players can still quest/do whatever they want in the area that would have the event prep normally.
- GMs only need to setup the NPC once/deactivate it when done and not have to continue spawning portals.
- Capability somewhat exists already...think Snowlands Event.
Cons:
- The dynamic feature of this is probably not currently in place and might take quite some time to create. The ROI might be way low with RoM management.
2) Have the event going in multiple channels at the same time.
Pros:
- Not everyone is in one channel.
- Reduced lag.
- Possibly less fighting over which people get the rewards (like chests).
Cons:
- Requires setup of the event in 3 channels and GM management of the event in 3 channels.
- Players can't quest/do whatever they want in the area where prep effort is needed.
- GMs need to spawn portals multiple times.
The root of the lag problem is too many people in the same spot at the same time. If something like #1 is worked on, they better performance test the heck out of it to make sure loads of people can be in the same area casting whatever spells they wish and having whatever pets they want out. We should not need to be told what not to do during these events because it contributes to the overall lag problem. #2 is a step above what is done now, but my preference would be for something like #1 worked on for all GM events.
