Communication

I would like to suggest some for of central communication form for in game communication. I know reni has people online often but I tend to stick to their own guilds or circle of friends and don't extend beyond that. There needs to be some form of communication that is available to everyone right from the start that is shared by everyone and can't be avoided so people can communicate better. There are new people that join the game but join guilds that have no idea what they are doing and teach them improperly or that are small and thus give them a bad idea of the game.

My vote is to eliminate the use of megaphones for world. It gives a bad impression when people join the game and they see no people and absolute silence. If everyone can use world chat they can talk to one another ,get to know one another and help each other out and ask for help. I know I would feel awkward asking for help in a absolutely quiet place if I was new and didn't know anyone.

And while yes I am aware and Valgard I beseech you to forward this bit of common sense from a business major student, that gameforge probably makes a lot of money off of mega's but they are also merging the Usa servers because of a small population problem. People even if they join they may see absolute silence and no one in the lower levels and no one to ask questions to and log off and never play. They could remove the need for megaphones to use in world and people could talk without that need. New people could join the game and see life and think "hey this game has a lot of life it must be pretty fun to play". Also remind them they are a business they don't have to be fair if population is fine on the EU and such leave it there for buying. Let them know my exact words.

making WC free would do nothing but bring the crap already in trade channel to all those who aren't in trade because of it.

while the reasons behind this idea might be valid, in implementation, it would make a mess imo.

A good way to do this may be having every new character made start out in a 'private' channel such as trade. That way everyone knows about the channel who logs in, but also gets the option to leave the channel if they'd like. I know many people who can't stand the Trade channel, so making Mega's free or wtv, would basically be a Trade channel you can NOT leave :s

There is a difference between the 2. Gm's can't interfear in a private channel they can in world chat someone starts something they silence them. Gm's cannot do anything to anything said in private channels the same cannot be said in world chat thats why if someone is silenced in everything guild/say/zone/world ect they can still talk in the private channels. I took that in to consideration when proposing this idea any other complains cike :borg:

Your idea isn't to bad either rogue but I don't think it would be as effective. Even if people are arguing people will see life and think there is a population to the game. The idea is to make and keep any new players and have a form of communication available to all and again Gm's can't do anything with private channels.

Well with the idea of everyone new starting in a sort of private channel, GM's could monitor that fine as its a channel created by the game, that people can freely join and exit, however it'd be different then Trade because you would at first be in the channel, meaning you'd be aware of its exsistance should you chose to remain in it.

not sure why people think this.

if there is anything illegal going on in ANY channel, private/whisper/world, and gets reported, then the gm's can, and will, take action.

there is such a thing called gmhide.

as for getting muted, from my point of view, that is more to shut them up in terms of interacting with the general populous. even if they disable all ingame chat, then the muted parties will still communicate to friends/acquaintances via out of game methods. it's supposed to stop your running your mouth in front of everybody, not kick you out of the community.

@r2p: that would be a fine idea, i think i had one much like it myself a while ago. sort of like a "help" channel that all new players get put into, however unlike all other default channels, you can leave and join at any point.

OK mainly what I am saying is remove the need to require megaphones to talk in world. I guess I wasn't simple enough. Everyone can see into world at all times but they cannot speak without mega's. If they cannot speak they are more than likely not going to pay any attention to it.

I misspoke originally forgive me I have been feeling Ill lately and have a headache.

If they allow everyone to speak in world without megas, they will need to extend the max ammount of players that one can have on their blacklist.

this, or have some way to "toggle" certain groups of players on/off in without doing it individually.

Absolutely, GMs can go into private channels. We had recent incident where some rather vile and offensive person came back, entered trade channel, and had to be quickly dealt with. GMs got info on his toons, including evidence from the channel, and he was gone in no time.

As for free WC, I think it would get too wordy and bring out worst in people. I understand that new players dont see a lot of other players anymore, so they feel abandoned; still, free WC is a bit of overkill. The automatic join to a newbie private channel has merit, though, but it is not clear it would do better than zone chat.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

The automatic join to a newbie private channel has merit, though, but it is not clear it would do better than zone chat.

my only argument in which it is better than zone is the fact that a good number of the leveling zones have minimal people. if, for example, every zone chat also included the closest large city (varanas, dalanis, heffner, AKR, WF, etc), then it would be perfectly fine (or at least just the original continent had varanas).

the point of the newbie channel is to provide help/answers to noobs from people that may or may not be in the same zone/area, without the drama of trade/WC (yeah, right, but better than nothing, right?).

I could defiantly get behind making "zone" chat reach a whole continent. Making the elf and dwarf starting zones chat reach th human starting continent.

I think Zone chat should be left alone. A new "Continent" chat should be added and have those "continent-megas" consume phirius tokens.

I suppose that could work but my main issue with that is I don't trust Runewaker not to break something with that hence why I suggested something simple. Also drama or not isn't the point the point is to make servers look more populated the drama can be dealt with and would actually be good for my point of making it look alive. Drama happens in world chat anyway or regardless of trade channels and world fights I would know more than most........
The point is to give an easy option to make it "look" like there are people in and effort to keep any new people. As I said a new person joins sees absolute silence and no one in zone thinks game is dead and never logs on toon again. New players may not ever even consider existence of forum...which is a good thing for population as well for US servers anyway. Drama will look like life which can work and besides that its not like Gm's are the only ones that can defuse a fight people can calm others down if they know how and what to say its not like its always there.

And with the join automatically for new players.....well we all know how runewaker does things I don't trust them with something that's not simple.

Like I said before, I'm more than willing to code something like this, the problem is. Without having actual game code... It's impossible to create, (best substitute would be a private channel that auto rejoins you when you leave. [Which has a lot of issues to begin with.]) Even then you'd still need to download something extra to the game. UGH. :dash: Why? Why can't I fix everything in this game?
