Always going to need the 2nd password to log in?

I understand the need for a password for logging into the game, but is the second password really necessary? Its actually very annoying to me, sorry to say but it is. Not only do I get the password error, on the first logging in sometimes, (too many times) but I also get the same on the secondary password, after having basically logging into the account? whats up with that? Not as many times on the secondary password, but still enough to be annoying, also not sure why, but sometimes the pointer is EXTREMELY slow?
wow lag before even getting into the game....

All signs point to yes.

Just be grateful that they never implemented what they were apparently going for - making the secondary password on login to be enterable only by on-screen keyboard and not a real one. That would truly and utterly suck.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Next time you type in your passwords, keep track of the number of dots for the length of your password.

I have found that if I click in the password field, the first letter I type doesn't register.

So if my password is luckyme, the password i have entered turns out to be uckyme - and I get the wrong password error also.

I have to remember that if I just click into the password field, I have too press the first letter of my password twice so that it registers the keyboard input.

You should have an equal number of dots for the length of your password. So if you type in a 6 character password but only have 5 dots, most likely the first letter of the password didn't register.

At least, that is the problem I have that gives me the you have typed in the wrong password message

There is an addon at Curse that will let you set up an automated login. Not on my gaming PC so do not have the name now, but it is very sweet. Must read the notes carefully, but it will even allow you to select which character and channel you want to use.

Yes ty one of the first things I do is make sure there are as many "dots" as my password.

Sorry I do not like nor want to use ANY "helpful addons" I really do not know why after having played for over 2 yrs I should have to have any addons to play the game now?

Its unforunate, because as soon as someones account gets broken into they either blame it on weak security from the company or claim that they got hacked, "Whaaat? Me be stupid and ignorant enough in the internet to have my clearly generic password stolen? No one would ever crack the password *password1234!* Its FOOLPROOF!"

I am glad the 2nd password thing is required to log on, it's a nice, extra security feature for those of us who enjoy tight security and not really that big of a hassle for those who aren't interested in using it.

I wouldn't say that you're required to use any helpful addons, they are just that, helpful addons. Some are a lot more helpful than others (For instance Advanced Auction house is a LOT more useful than "Ding")

I just this confirmed this right now - though I have known this since the secondary password requirement was put in place.

The secondary password does not provide extra security from hackers. The secondary password is a client side check. Any one who modifies a certain file will be able to just skip the whole secondary password window and get right in.

It may even be possible

The secondary password is only good for those who don't know how to skip it, or for keeping other people in your house out.

This was made known to FAI powers that be with in days of the secondary password "feature" being added.

Your best security it a strong account password and the changing of your password every month to 3 months or so.

Send in a support ticket, make sure to include your account name, server name and toon name - support will be able to reset your secondary password for you.

You will then be asked to specify a new one next time you sign in to play

If its a client side check, don't you have to go through Frogster to change your secondary password? I was just thinking that it seems foolish that your secondary password (Which is supposed to help keep hackers from spending your diamonds and stuff) is stored client side and easily editable.

Do you have any sources for your claim? I am just asking :)

I'll have to get back to you - more to it then what I thought :(

I can get to the character selection screen without logging in but I never tried to join the server. A new message now shows up. It is possible that it has been fixed...

But back when this first was introduced, we were watching hacked accounts where players would walk right in - they could do every thing but take the diamonds - if an item was protected by the item lock CS items, those couldn't be touched either.

There are (or used to be) tons of threads in the forum here that discussed it. But that was almost a year ago so who knows now...

Lol, no worries. It seems though that if a password was stored Client side instead of Server side that the server would at least HAVE a record of what the password was to compare it to, otherwise whats the point of having the password stored locally if not a glaring security problem?
