So what do you suggest I do??? Like I said before, yes the the files are being saved as .bmp but somehow the .bmp file itself is corrupted during the saving process I think to the point that Windows Photo Gallery doesn't recognize it as .bmp since the file is a couple of bytes smaller than my viewable screenshots taken before the patch.
What file is used in how screenshots are created/saved since I don't think it is one of the .fdb files?? I really don't wanna keep using my bugged older client that I patched up from Ch2 til now... think I'm gonna use the older client's version of whatever file it is & replace the newer client's version of it.

OP,
From what I can tell ... it looks like you have malware/spyware on your computer.
There should be no reason to why Windows Photo Viewer (or whatever it's called) can not view a .bmp image.
The only thing that comes to mind is that in your PC changed the default settings and make it so .bmp extension doesn't exist or it disabled what Windows Photo Gallery can view. (which in both cases in either malware/spyware or a very very bad photo viewer you might have forgotten.)
So to be safe, scan your PC with Spybot Search & Destroy + Microsoft Security Essentials.
If it doesn't fix the problem, try using a photo viewer like: Nexus Image (you might better ones but personally this is the best one I have used.)

I have this same problem. All screenshots after a certain point are unreadable by windows photo gallery, or paint, etc. Just says the file is unreadable/corrupted. Hence why all my screenshots are just pasted onto print via ctrl+v after print screen, and saved from there. Last viewable screenshot was back in the lvl 70 cap, about 4-6 months ago.

I just took a screenie and was able to view it in:
MS Office Picture Manager
Opera browser
Windows Live Photo Gallery
Windows Paint
Windows Photo Viewer
Directory Opus 10 Image Viewer
Naturally, I have the current game client version installed. The client is in windowed mode--1600 x 900.
There were some artifacts in the image, but they didn't detract materially from it.
I cannot state that your issues aren't due to client errors. On the other hand, I cannot state that your issues aren't related to problems with your Windows installations. There are simply too many possible variables--applications installed, running applications (background), processes, .dll files, and so on--that may affect how your screenshots are being saved.
Which display mode are you using with the game client--full screen or windowed, and have you tried using an external image file conversion application to see if you can convert one or more of the corrupted .bmp files to another format, such as .jpg or .gif, and if it will display properly in the new format?

Ya, I unfortunately have not been able to view any screenshots on my laptop since the patch that occurred right before Christmas 2011, so about 10 months now. Reinstalled with new Ch 5 client didn't fix the problem. Meanwhile my PC has no problems with creating screenshots whatsoever, but since it's an older client, Ch 2 that's been patched up til now, it's extremely crashy.
I play in windowed mode for both my laptop & pc.
I can open the screenshots in:
Firefox browser
Windows Paint
Quicktime PictureViewer <-- This, perhaps?
Opera browser
pretty much everything except Windows Photo Gallery. Everything recognizes it is a .bmp that's openable except WPG says it's .bmp too but refuses to open it, giving that error. It's convertable because it's not corrupted.

There was huge upset in WoW regarding Blizzard putting everyone's IP and account info into screenshots. Wonder if RW is doing the same with our screenshots. Mr. Kalvan might know better if we have been tracked by Big Brother...![]()

It seems, then, that your issue is with WPG and not with the screenshots themselves. The files themselves aren't necessarily causing the problem you've been having. With your current WPG installation, is it able to display other .bmp files?

Now, note what I added to your quote. I do not or have QuickTime or any Apple software for Windows installed since, in my opinion, Apple doesn't have the capacity to write good software for Windows--note the security issues that QT and iTunes for Windows have both had over the years. You might consider trying to uninstall the QT Picture Viewer applet and see if WPG is able to display your screenshots. But, I don't know if it's possible to remove a single or specific element from a QuickTime installation.

Hmmm but on my end it seems that RoM is creating unreadable screenshots for some reason on my laptop, no idea. WPG can view allllllllllllllllllllll other .bmp files except for RoM's .bmp screenshots. I do always turn my antivirus & firewall off when I'm patching so it can't be a write error. File sizes in the fdb folder are the same sizes too.
Yes I know of the whole Apple vs. Windows software errors. I don't think it's possible to remove a specific element either =(
I got iTunes & Windows Media Player on this laptop, unfortunately if I have iTunes installed, half of my mp3s refuse to play in WMP even when I have WMP defaulted for every music type, it still says almost half of them are corrupted files/don't have the right codex to play. As soon as I uninstall iTunes, my WMP will function normally & will play all my music again. LOL ugh! All I can use iTunes for is to download music & shows & movies & books & games, but I can't play any music in it because it is always stuck at 0:00 mins regardless of how many times i hit play. Videos can be played in Itunes but there's no sound. Quicktime can play music but again, no sound....blah.... just like the rom screenshot issue: reinstalling iTunes multiple times still doesn't work to fix the problem =(
Quoted from "Kalvan;575363"
It seems to me, then, that your issues may be centered around iTunes.
If you're not absolutely wedded to iTunes--there are iDevice-friendly alternatives to it, or so I've been told--I'd recommend removing it and see if RoM screenshots can be made and viewed in WPG. Don't do the experiment with older or existing screenshots, take new ones. You may also have to once again reinstall RoM before doing the tests, but reinstall after you've removed iTunes.
And no, I don't know or know of anyone having the same issue(s) with iTunes and RoM.
