2. Registration

We recommend that you register your Runes of Magic account on the official website before downloading the game.

Important: Links here are for those wanting to play on the European servers. Players from America or Australia are advised to use the links provided further below.

a.) Fill in the following required fields on the official Website:
> Usernam
> E-mail
> Password
> Country
> Check the "I have read & agree to theTerms & Privacy" box
> Click “Registration”

Remember: To protect your security, passwords must be between 6-32 characters long, must contain at least 1 lowercase letter, 1 capital letter, and 1 number. Passwords cannot contain spaces or special characters (eg. %^&*).

Congratulations! You’re one step closer to jumping into Runes of Magic. The confirmation screen will indicate that an e-mail has been sent to your inbox.

b.) Check your e-mail inbox (and junk folder) for the confirmation message. Occasionally users may receive 2 messages, one in German and one in English, both containing the activation link for your game account.

> Click on the activation link in one of the two emails
> Fill out two randomly generated words (a “Captcha”) to prove that you’re not a robot!
> Validate

c.) Your game account has now been activated! Another E-mail should have arrived in your inbox, confirming that your account has been created.
Sometimes it can take some time to process, so you can always check the account management* page and try to login to see if your account is activated or processing. You won’t be able to play until the status of the account is “created”.

Check your emails again you should have received another message telling you that your game account has been created

*The Account Management (Yusho) page has as several different names, Yusho, Playtoo, Account management, all of these names refer to the same page.

3. Downloading the game:

a.) You can choose between two versions of Runes of Magic on the download page:
· Slim client (3.5 GB)
· Advanced client (7.5 GB)

The slim client has been built for computers with low specifications that meet the minimum requirements.
The textures and the sounds of this version are compressed, meaning that the game client is lighter and performs better for low specification computers.

The advanced client is the original game client, sometimes referred to as the “normal game client”.
The textures and sounds are not compressed; therefore it’s best to download this client only if your computer meets or exceeds the recommended requirements
.
b.) Once you have selected which game client to use, click on the appropriate link to download the download manager (YuLeech-Runes_of_Magic_3_0_8_2349_slim_eu.exe). Once you’ve opened this small file, the download manager will begin to download the game.

c.) If you have a firewall enabled, a pop-up window will emerge, asking you if you wish to allow the downloader permission. Please select “Allow” or “Yes” to begin downloading.
Try to ensure that your firewall/router is properly configured.

If you have to configure the ports manually, the download process uses the port 80.

d.)Ensure you have enough free space on your hard drive before downloading Runes of Magic. For the advanced client, we recommend that you have at least 10 GB of free space.
You may also need to ensure sure that your temp folder has enough free space. During the Runes of Magic installation and patching process the temp folder will be used. You will need at least 3 GB of free space on the hard drive where there temp folder is located.
If you don’t have enough free space, try to free up some space by uninstalling programs you don’t use or move your temp folder (instructions below) to a different drive where you have enough free space.

Moving your temp folder:
The position of your temp folder can be changed under: SYSTEM > Advanced > Environment variables.
Here you can find the two important variables TEMP and TMP which will enable you to modify the path of your temp folder.
Please be aware that this process will only change the variable for the active windows user.
When you start the Download Manager application, you should select the destination folder where you want to download Runes of Magic.
Once you have selected the folder you want, your download will begin.
Because the YuLeech download manager is a form of bittorrent client, the speed of your download will depend on how many players are downloading. Sometimes it can be quite fast, sometimes it can take longer.

If you need to stop the download for some reason, don’t worry, you can resume the download by selecting the exact same folder you started downloading to and the YuLeech download manager will resume its download from where you stopped it.

Having issues with the Download Manager?
We recommend that you try to download Runes of Magic using one of mirror links below the two official links on our Download page. These mirror links will lead you to external websites where you will be able to download the game from another source. Usually these are direct downloads, meaning that you will download them via your internet browser (Note: Older versions of Internet Explorers have some difficulties with large files exceeding 1 GB in size).
These mirror downloads are exactly the same as the main client download, and are listed on the site for extra convenience.

If you have followed these steps, your game download should now be underway.

4. Installing and patching the game

Once the download process is complete, you’re ready to install Runes of Magic.
Depending on the version you have downloaded, you should have several ROMSetup.bin files (4 for the slim client and 8 for the advanced client) and a ROMSetup.exe file in your download folder.
To begin the extraction and installation process, you need to click on theROMSetup.exe file.
After the extraction process is complete, you're ready to begin the installation and choose the location where you wish to install the game.

Once the installation process is over, the patching process will begin, making sure that your game is up-to-date with the latest version.
We release a new and updated game client every few months. Between the release of each new and updated game client there are several patches to install.
Runes of Magic will perform these updates automatically.
Simply start the game, and the game launcher will download and install each update automatically and individually.

The Runes of Magic game launcher will download and install each update, one after another. The game launcher will close and restart itself automatically between each update.
Don’t be surprised or afraid if this happens, it’s not a bug, it’s completely normal and you will be able to follow the update progression in the lower right corner of the Runes of Magic launcher, which displays the current game version numbers (x.x.x.xxxx.en), which will change after each restart of the game client during the patching process.

If you are experiencing issues with the updates (it can happen) you will be able to find the Runes of Magic manual updates in the following thread. How and where to install them is explained in the linked thread. Please be aware that you should only need to use the manual updates as a last resort, automatic updates are always more preferable.
Once you have reached the latest game version, the launcher Start button will turn from grey to RED, indicating that you now have the latest version of the game.
You are now free to jump into Taborea, but first we recommend that you configure your game launcher in order to access to the right servers according to your region.

5. Configuring the game launcher, login screen and choosing a server

To login successfully, you should click on the "Region/Language" button within the game launcher.

  • Select your region according to the website where you registered your game account:
    • If you have registered on one of the European websites, select : Europe (English), DE/AT/CH (German), Español (Spanish), France (French), Netherlands (Dutch), Polska (Polish) or România (Romanian)
    • If you have registered on the US website, select : USA
    • If you have registered on the Australian website, select: AUS / Australia.

  • Select your language

  • Click “Apply” to validate your choices.

Now you are free to access Runes of Magic, just click on the START button, accept the EULA, and select your desired server.

Important: The English speaking servers are those with the European flag, 12 yellow stars on a blue background. Isiltir, Macantacht and Siochain (PvE) and Smacht (PvP).

Here’s a short explanation of the differences between PvE and PvP.

PvE: Players versus Environment. These servers are the most common, the players play versus the creatures found in game, they also have the possibility to play against other players under certain circumstances (duel, arena, siege wars).

PvP: Players versus Player. Recommend for more experienced players only. From level 15 onwards, every player has the possibility to attack and kill you. Additionally, if you are killed by another player you can lose a piece of your equipment. There are only few PvP servers: Smacht for the English servers and Cogadh for the German servers.

Once you have selected your server (language/type), you will be requested to choose a secondary password.
It’s important that you don’t forget your secondary password. Keep a reminder for yourself if you are concerned about this. Explanations about the secondary password are in the post below.

6. Login and passwords

You may have noticed that several passwords and logins are needed for Runes of Magic.
By registering, you have simultaneously created an account management account, your game account and your forum account.

For the time being, these 3 accounts have the exact same usernames and passwords. For security reasons, we advise you to change them so that each of them is different.
Also, we strongly advise that you choose a forum username that is different from your game and account management accounts.

  • If you lose your account management password, you can request a new password on the following page:
  • If you forget your forum account password, you can change it on the Account Management page under ''Personal Data''.
  • Your Runes of Magic password can be changed under ''Game Accounts''.

Passwords must satisfy the following requirements:

  • At least 6 characters max. 32 characters*
  • At least 1 number
  • At least 1 capital letter
  • At least 1 lowercase letter
  • No spaces
  • No special characters (eg. %, ^, &, *)

To guarantee maximum security, it is necessary to set 3 unique passwords.
*The password for your game account can be a maximum of 20 characters long.

The very first time you connect to a server, you will be asked to choose a secondary password. This password is linked to your account AND the server, so if you wish to play on several different servers, you will need a separate secondary password for each of them.
To maximise security you should use the virtual keyboard to enter your secondary password.
The secondary password will also be used for character deletion, access to the item shop and to unlock protected in-game items.

The final password that you may need is for Support. If you are having issues with Runes of Magic and are unable to solve them yourself, you should contact our customer support.
You will need to register a separate customer support account and this will be the final password to remember.
Explanations about the customer support can be found in section 10.

7. Character creation

So, you’re ready to create your first Runes of Magic character?

This is an easy step, even if it can take a while for some players to find their perfect avatar.

You will have to select your race (human or elves) and your gender (male or female).

You can customize your character in several ways, height, colour, size of the different body parts, hair.

You also need to select a class, which will define your role in the game.

There are 8 different classes to choose from:

  • Druid
    Accessible only to the elves.
Druids take on the function of priests in Elven society. They are the custodians of the knowledge which the Elves have gathered about the forces of nature.

  • Knight
    Accessible only to humans.
maintaining the holy law is the first priority for every knight. That is the reason they travel through the world ever ready to protect the weak and to defeat all threats they encounter.

  • Mage
    Accessible to all races.
normally magicians only grudgingly leave their teaching parlours, but on their quest to a perfect understanding of the elements they are drawn again and again to ancient places in the hope of recovering long-forgotten knowledge.

  • Priest
    Accessible only to humans.
Priests are sent out by their god to help the faithful and spread the glory of their religion. Heretics and other enemies of the faith will, on the other hand, learn of their darker side.

  • Rogue
    Accessible to all races.
Rogues feel at ease in the cities with their narrow alleys. Only in the cities they find the life and drive they seek. It is there where poorly guarded purses can be found and a dagger is the weapon of choice.

  • Scout
    Accessible to all races.
Scouts treasure the silence and the vastness of the wild, where their tracking and sniping skills turn them into dangerous hunters. Many a prey realizes this too late.

  • Warden
    Accessible only to the elves.
The Wardens serve as guardians of nature. In times of peace it is their responsibility to ensure that the rules are abided by which in turn preserve the forests of Taborea, the Elves' natural habitat.
  • Warrior
    Accessible to all races.
Warriors feel comfortable in the thick of things - be it tavern or battle. Most of the time one leads to the other anyway. They meet every challenge with courage and a loyal blade.

Once you’ve made the final adjustments to your characters appearance, all you need to do is choose a name and then enter the world for your first steps in the world of Taborea.

8. Video and Audio settings

There are two methods of changing your video and audio settings.

> Via the game launching screen, by clicking on "Configuration"
> Inside Runes of Magic by hitting the "escape" key and selecting “Video and Audio settings”.

Video settings:
There are several ways to adjust your video settings to increase performance or improve graphics.

· Screen Resolution
Adjusting your screen resolution will affect the graphics quality of Runes of Magic, changing the number of pixels displayed on the screen. The higher your screen resolution, the sharper and better your graphics will be.

· Full Screen or Windowed mode

· UI Scale
Using the “UI Scale” will allow you to change the size of your in-game interface. The icons, action bars and health bars will be enlarged or made smaller, depending on how you adjust it.

· Shadows, character and World detail
There are over ten different options allowing you to adjust the amount of detail, view distance, shadows, lighting and overall graphics quality of Runes of Magic.
Lowering these settings may speed up your computer performance, while increasing these settings may decrease your performance but will improve the visuals.

Generally speaking, for less powerful computers it's good to start with the lowest settings and upgrade them until you find the good compromise between the graphics and the playability.

Also, in order to reduce the frequency of crashes, it's recommended not to ever put your view distance to the maximum.

Audio settings:

You can adjust various different aspects of your audio, such as the volume of the game, music, ambience, sound effects, interface effects and even the loop frequency.
Runes of Magic’s soundtrack is one of the most-loved parts of the game, and we hope you enjoy the music as much as we do.
