"Not allowed to access showthread.php...[]"

(forums autoresize sucks!)Link to picture: http://www.abload.de/img/errordpus2.jpg

link on the pic leads me to: http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthr…05&goto=newpost

clicking it often results in an error message "you are not allowed to access showthread.php on this server" (or similiar, ill copypaste it when i get it the next time)
pressing back and clicking the same link again works ...

Countermeasures so far: deleted cookies, cleared cache, restarted browser. Result: nothing changed.

happened to other threads before, but after having to click this one 4 times in a row which was quite annoying its enough and time for a bug report ;)

Firefox 10.0 , but happend with 9.01 in the last days too.

I often get that when I am going to the unread posts of a thread. I just go back and click again and it has always worked for me fine.

I'm not an IT guy so I can't possibly say could be causing it.

Maybe it was deleted or closed?

"I am Eledhwen, and ....
[ ] I have actually clicked the first link before i post something like that.
[X] I have no idea what the F im doing here."
...

Okay, seriously without sarcasm:

No, both threads still exist and are OPEN and active.
IF the thread would be closed i would still be able to READ it.
IF the thread would be DELETED i would get a message from the forum software that says "Thread not found" or something similar.
Its a server-side error.

happened again, so please let someone grep the logs and configure the webserver correctly.

Or do you need forum-techproblems done as a report template too? annoying, buf it helps ....

I am unable to reproduce this error on my end at all, How often does it occur for you?

This same error has been happening to me fairly frequently since the move to the new forums. Always when I click on "View first unread". Sometimes I can get it to work by clicking the back button on my browser (Firefox 10) and clicking View first unread again, but often I'll continue to get the same error. Sometimes I have to restart my browser session to fix the problem.

I am using Firefox 10 as well and can absolutely not reproduce this error.

You mentioned you already did the usual steps (clear cache, cookies, restart browser). I am wondering if maybe some very stubborn cookie might still have remained, that could be causing this (I am no tech pro).

Also it would be interesting if this happens with other browsers too.

I can forward this but if we can not reproduce it tracing the error reason might get a bit tricky.

It happened for me fairly frequently with Chrome (the browser, not the Mentor) but it hasn't happened in a while now.

Make certain that you check the "Remember me" checkbox when logging into the forums. If you have more than one forum account that you use for posting and change accounts, you will have to check the "Remember me" box each time you switch accounts. Otherwise, the forum software will register you as a "guest"--guest accounts do not have permission to post, and may not have permissions set to view some of the forums.

Otherwise, I use both Opera 11 and Firefox 10 with no issues such as yours.

http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthr…82&goto=newpost

again.

im starting to think its a problem with the "go to last unvisited post" because thats where it happens nearly all the time (9 out of 10). At least thats where others who had the same problem reported that it happens to them.

Kalvan: thanks, i keep logged in into the forums all the time, thats working fine. And as i said before the error message is from the webserver itself, not from the forums. If i try to access an archived thread thats not visible to me anymore (like via google), the permission denied message is from the forum software like "You are not allowed to view this thread". But its not like the screenshot i already posted on page1.

As i just had it again i would actually love to provide http data collected via "TamperData" addon, but i just noticed i dont have it installed anymore. So this will have to wait until it happens again.

3/4 year later, happening again. Latest Firefox 16.0.1 @ Win7 32 Bit.

But i'm certain now that it only happens on thread links with &goto=newpost .

Strg+F5 solves it everytime. Funny, because deleting all cookies and clearing the cache and restarting the browser does not. But Strg+F5 ("reload without cache") does within the same browser session (freaky...)

Still - this is an error from the webserver itself not the forum software.
But i suppose the serverlog would only state "<IP> <URL> <statuscode> so it would only confirm that i'm actually getting 403's, but not why. So still hard to track :/

google suggests the same problem occurs on pages like LinkedIn, GW2-incgamers, and others.
Got a hint pointing to restrictive adblock-settings which may be blocking a script that loads actual forum stuff, but even with fully disabled "AdBlock+" the error occurs.

SEO on the forum side is another error source, but this forum's URLs are not SEO'd ... :/

Oh, and it happens only on forum.us.runesofmagic.com not on the EU forum.runesofmagic.com
(PL has board.runesofmagic.com but thats only a subdomain not a different forum installation, the login data from forum.runesofmagic.com works perfectly)
