Custom Channels error & Action Bar duplicates

I think I'm having this problem because I play on both Grimdal & Osha... unfortunately I had NO idea that RW hates people who make the same named characters on more than 1 server, until I was too far into leveling & had too many cs items already to make a new character with a different name.

But the problem I'm having maybe a result of something else, I don't know. I do know that my action bars are exact duplicates of each other on each server because RoM uses the character folder's files which unfortunately is the same folder for both servers... Luckily my 1st & 2nd classes are the same (hence why I never noticed until way later that what u change on one server changes the other coz I use the same skills & pots are in the same place blah blah) only one of my characters has chosen a 3rd class, I'm scared of choosing a different 3rd class for my same named character on the other server in fear of having to rework my 3rd class' action bar EVERY SINGLE TIME whenever I switch servers. I have different amount of food & potions on the character on Osha & Grimdal so I use whatever I have most of first...so currently I have to redo my potions & food action bar WHENEVER I SWITCH SERVERS... Is there a workaround for this?

Osha & Grimdal have different Custom Channels that I'm apart of... When I log on, it attempts to log me into all the Custom Channels that I'm in for both servers regardless of the channel exist or not...
Used to work regardless if the channel existed or not, if it didn't exist (because it actually exists on the other server, it'll automatically create with me being the channel manager)...
Now like within the last few days, only Custom Channels on Grimdal work. I can no longer access any Custom Channel on Osha. Logging into Osha, it still shows up the dif Channel buttons on top of the chat box, but game never really logs me into the custom channel. Hitting O to open the Custom Channel tab, & clicking on the custom channels individual names, nothing happens either. Left the channels & when I tried to rejoin all 4 channels it says:
"Failed to join ... channel. Channel name or password is incorrect."
for all of them.
I'm typing in the name & password correctly with no Cap Locks accidentally on or anything. Nothing works. =(
Pulled an old copy from last month of the Channel.bsd file in that character's folder from the RoM folder in Documents & replaced the current file with that old copy & still didn't fix the problem either.

The problem that I see is you have two characters on different servers with precisely the same names. If you look in the RoM data folder, you'll see a number of subfolders named after your characters. When you log into one of the servers where you have the same-named characters, the game loads the data for that character. If you switch servers to the "same" character, whatever data was saved from the first character--including custom channel settings--is loaded for the second one. It doesn't matter if the two characters are the same classes, or even the same levels for those classes.

It's very unlikely that the custom channels for two different servers are going to be exactly alike, including the channel names and passwords to them.

I know this is something that you didn't want to hear, but in this case the game is[/b working as intended.

yes I know the game loads whatever info that is inside the folder. if I chose a different 3rd class on one of the characters, will it mess up the action bars of the 3rd class's action bar on the other server? that's one thing I'm afraid of, hence why I haven't chosen a 3rd class for one server yet.

as for the custom channels... the problem is that, when I change servers, the 2nd server I log in, it "preloads" me into the custom channels from the previous server, which is wrong I know this, so after I leave the custom channel & try to rejoin the custom channels, it says I have the wrong name/or wrong password when I try to join. Makes no sense because I am typing it in correctly everything. The only workaround I can figure out atm is that I have to shut down the game & restart it & log straight into the server that was giving me the name/password error for custom channels (instead of logging into a dif channel prior) then, only then will the name acknowledge that I'm typing in the name & password correctly for the custom channels, which I was already doing before but the game wouldn't recognize it. Even using the /script ReloadUI() doesn't fix the problem, have to shut down & exit out completely & restart the game client. Highly doubt it is how it's supposed to work....

And I don't think the "Server save" function is working at all, nothing I save is saved is server specific, which it should be =(

Since both characters on the two servers have the same name, the character folder is the same one. So, any changes you make to your action bars on, let's say, Osha, will be reflected on Grimdal, and vice versa.

The same thing applies to your custom channels. Those settings are saved in the character folder. Change it on one server and then change to the character with the same name on another server, and the settings will be loaded from the character folder.

I do not have Server Save checked for my characters, so I can't tell you whether it works as intended or not.

OP,

Only thing I can suggest is considering submitting a ticket to see if Frogster will be willing to change the name of one of your characters to avoid this hassle.

If it is really causing you a lot of frustration, I am sure they will consider it.

Yes I know that from seeing how my primary & 2ndary classes' action bars are like. One server, I'm r/m/s; the other server I'm currently just r/m, too afraid of choosing a dif 3rd class being warrior & I haven't met anyone with my same name situation to ask... what I wanna know is, if I choose r/m/w, when I change to the Warrior class, will the game load Scout skills because that's what the prior server's action bars are???

Hmm I understand this that it loads from whatever info u have in Channels.bsd, I think u don't get what I'm saying tho.

This is harder to explain than I thought.

I log in server 1, it preloads me into all my custom channels from the last time I logged in. Works great for both the channels that exist on this server 1, & channels that don't exist (because they exist on server 2) are created upon my logging on with the passwords that I use for custom channels on server 2.
Switch to server 2, game shows in the chat box that it preloads me into all my custom channels (both channels that are located on server 2 with the correct passwords & channels that exist on channel 1 are created using the passwords from channel 1) in the chat box, BUT when I open the Custom Channels interface box, it just says I'm in the Custom Channels but it won't load anything when I click on the individual Channel names. So I leave the Custom Channels, to rejoin again so the Custom Channels functions will work right.
But problem is, I cannot rejoin. The game says I have the wrong name or password when I try to rejoin the channels I just left, even though I am typing it in correctly for all 4 custom channels. Using /script ReloadUI() doesn't fix the problem. Logging out & logging back in & attempting to rejoin the Custom Channels (with a blank Channels.bsd file) still say I have the wrong name/or password.
After shutting down the game & restarting the game again (again with blank Channels.bsd file), and logging into server 2, & rejoining the channels I previously left by putting in the exact names/passwords as before, surprisingly works. The game doesn't give me a name/password error that it consistently gave for every single channel it did before I shut down the game. Makes no sense why it does this! lolz

From what I can tell, server 1 will allow me into any custom channel, when I switch servers without shutting down/restarting the game, server 2 will deny me any access to custom channels on server 2 & throw at me the name/password error for every channel even when I am typing it in correctly.

sorta offtopic but not rly...If Frogster was rly considerate, we would've already gotten our missing house chests back lol, my characters still have open tickets about that where I listed the exact items' names & approx. dates I acquired them (yah they asked me that, surprisingly I noticed how no one else was asked about dates) spent time looking thru my almost 5k screenshots between my pc & laptop trying to narrow down dates & still I get nothing I listed back except for 1 chest on 1 storage/alt character & only 3 of the 20 missing items from it...my other 5 characters (including ones I do play) are still missing chests & all chests' items ='(

Hello EscapeTheFate03,

You need to remember that a different department handles each category for a ticket. (As stated by one of the CM's recently, there is a team dedicated to handling the storage chest problem.) You are not the only one who lost something in the incident a few months ago. You need to be a bit patient and remember that support is working very hard.

I am rather sure that if you do submit a ticket concerning this issue, you might be able to get an official response.

Kalvan has clearly stated that this specific issue is supposed to happen if you have a character of the same name on two different servers with different/similar settings.

Yes I have been patient, I haven't sent in numerous "missing chests" tickets, in fact ever since the whole deal, I've sent only 1 on the old Support site & 1 on the new Support site.

An official response regarding anything seems hard to come by these days. I was also hoping someone who has 2 characters with same name on 2 different servers could enlighten me. I really don't wanna have to buy a Fruit of Forgetting or whatever it is, if choosing a different 3rd class would completely mess up my Character's skills action bars when I switch servers. Currently I am really not interested in changing my character name & I think Runewalker should consider changing our character folders' name. I'm sure I can't be the only person with this problem. Instead of how it is currently just named after your character's name, I think it should be 'Server Name'-'Character Name'

Try copying your hidden Runes of Magic folder in your Documents so that you have 2 folders, but one for each character version. Have the one, for example, for the Grimdal character named "Runes of Magic - Grimdal " and switch them out every time you switch servers by /reloadUI. Also, remember to rename them back to the original Runes of Magic each time you use them.

I know its a hassle, but so is having to redo everything each time you switch. This solution is much faster.
