Intel HD 3000 Graphics

Im buying a new laptop next week, and I was wondering how the factory video card would handle RoM. Its an Intel HD 3000.

On my desktop before it got fried I had a nividia card (don't remember the model) and in game FPS ranged between 20-50 (I found it playable). Would the factory Intel perform just as well? Im not looking for a huge improvement, just enough to play the game.

Oh, and I usually run on everything on the minimum (view distance at about 20%) and hide player effects checked, so it wouldn't be a problem if I had to resort to that.

I've played before with simular graphics. You will have to play on low settings with testing out the viewing distance. Setting to view to far will cause a lot of lag. In instances and certain areas, you will need everything including the view to be the lowest setting, otherwise, the screen lag will be so bad that you won't even know if you are fighting or not. Your screen will be still and when it resumes, the boss fights will be over before you noticed.

Depending on the processor speed, and your internet connection, you may be better results. I'd set everything lowest, then change the view depth so that you can actually see things nearby, if all is well, try increasing some of the other settings. Leave water refection and shader required settings off or low.

Just my thoughts,
Chris

Thanks for the response :D

I've decided to go with a different model, 2 choices- AMD Radeon HD 6620G or AMD Radeon HD 6520G.

The first would tame about a week after I buy to ship, the other can be bought in-store, so Im not quiet sure. I know my guildies would love that I get on the new one asap, as the one I use now overheats in the middle of runs and I have to call it a day.

Not sure how much the 6620 is better than the 6520 though :\

Hello Ravesden,

What is your budget?

And what website are you using to find the most appropriate computer? I don't mind spending a few minutes helping you find the most suitable computer to get.

6620G is about 7-8% faster than 6520G. Either should work fine and get acceptable frame rates. That said, I would still drop graphic details. Running your GPU at the peak of its capacity is likely to produce overheating again. A decent laptop cooling pad, unless it is already been employed and proved insufficient, might be a way to go.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Thanks, that gives me a good general idea, it seems like the factory default card *might* be better than the one I had on my desktop lol

I've mainly looked at the ones from bestbuy.com, guild is trying to progress in tosh and unfortunately my current computer situation is kind of slowing progress down. We don't have too many end game healers, so if any one of us has to go, or in my case, laptop simply overheats (its old), the run is basically over. Basically, I just need a new one that'll handle tosh hm and general playing (and use for college).

I have about $1,500 I can spend, but Id rather not lol, Im ideally willing to spend 500-700. Just looking for one that'll get me by, don't need too much.

Im trying to choose between these two:

or
http://m.bestbuy.com:80/m/e/product/deta…t-overview-open

Wondering if the week shipping on the more expensive one is worth the quality, over in-store, same day pickup of the cheaper.

Ravesden, just a few comments on the two notebooks you're looking at.

The first one has a slightly lesser GPU/chipset which has less dedicated video RAM, can upgrade to a total of 8GB system RAM, and lacks a gigabit networking chipset. The latter may have no bearing on your situation if you don't have a gigabit router, however.

The second one has the better GPU/chipset with more dedicated video RAM available, can upgrade to a total of 16GB system RAM, and has a gigabit networking chipset. They're otherwise rather similar.

Even though the second notebook has to be ordered, with a 1-week delivery time, if I was making the choice between the two I'd go with the second one.

'wiffo had a good suggestion regarding overheating. Allow me to add that "Cleanliness is next to godliness." Keeping the air intakes/exhausts as free of dust and obstructions is a key with any computer, and especially so with notebooks. A cooling pad can be beneficial, but if the air intakes or exhausts get plugged up with the leavings from dust kitties, the pad won't do any good.

And, as always, try to use a wired connection to your router. It's faster (much faster with a gigabit networking chipset and router), and far more reliable than a wireless connection.

In-game video settings: You'll have to fiddle with these a bit, but starting out, take the middle course and adjust your settings as you get familiar with how the game displays and reacts to inputs.

I hope this is reasonable enough for you Ravesden,

Newegg tends to be the best place to search for best for your buck laptops.
