It's possible that your school has blocked ports that the game needs for communication purposes, with an eye towards reducing or eliminating access to sites which promote piracy or other types of torrenting. If you're using a notebook computer, see if you can take it to a "neutral" location (coffee shop, bookstore, et cetera) and see if you can make a connection from there. If you can, then you may need to contact your school's IT department.
