Search tab's 'Looking for Party' is broken

I made the mistake of checkmarking the box that says Looking for Party within the Search tab when you hit O to open the Social window. I unchecked it immediately after I ended up getting spammed by the goldsellers lurking there whispering to me. (This is not the same thing as the Party Recruitment Board/Application found by clicking the circle near ur HP bar next to ur character face.)

But the game REFUSES to remember that I uncheck it. I exit out the game normally, but when I log back on, the 'Looking for Party' box is rechecked & I get goldsellers' spam messages whispered to me as soon as I log on.

How do I get the game to remember that I unchecked it? What file is the one associated with what settings I have? I replaced everything in that character's folder with an old backup copy I have except for the ActionBar settings file & it still does NOT work. Please don't tell me that it's linked to the ActionBar settings file. And I really don't want to have to redownload the game either.

I'm not a programmer, don't play one on teevee, didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, and trying to parse the data in .lua files makes my head hurt.

Does this happen with only one of your characters? Or are all of them affected?

'Scuse me while I swallow a few aspirin...

actually after closer inspection, about half of my characters have this problem not just one. I looked over at EU forums & found a couple things when I searched for "gold seller spam whispers" dated last yr or 2 yrs ago, but they all seem to think that their character name was server glitched to permanently always show up in the Search list as soon as they logged in regardless if the checkmark for "Looking for Party" was checked or not & the gold sellers just spam everyone on that list.

I had not experienced that yet until yesterday. About 5 mins after I had already unchecked the box for 1 of my alt characters, a gold seller from Howling Mts started whispering to me... no clue what is going on, I have not been to Howling Mts in months, so it's not like the gold sellers set up macros to target everyone standing near them & save our names & spam them constantly by whispering. My other characters haven't gotten gold seller whispers after unchecking the box though.

The gold sellers that spam whispers to my characters are always lvl 1 in Howling Mts & this did not start happening until last month in April to any of my characters, after I had checked the Looking for Party box on a couple of characters coz I was curious to see who even had that option turned on right at that moment. I had no idea that function was glitched or else I never would've even looked. The first day I looked at the list, I didn't get any spam whispers but I unchecked the box like 1 minute after the list loaded. I didn't get the spam whispers until the next time I logged on & saw that the game had already rechecked the box I had unchecked the last time I was logged onto that character.

I really do hope that it's not a server based issue & somehow it's file based & I can just copy an old copy of the file & replace it with the current corrupted one, but it's not looking that way ='(

Same problem here when they F$#% are they going to fix this. Weird thing is, I just spoke to someone who wanted it to stay checked because it kept defaulting to Off for them! Little things like this make the game a great big pile of poo sometimes.
Please fix enough is enough

OMG please fix the Searching for Party list!!!!
Not only do Gold Spammers spam my name with whispers when I log on from pulling my name off the Searching for Party list after it has automatically went to default to ON upon logging on....but NOW as of last week they are SPAMMING MY CHARACTER NAME EVEN WHEN I'M OFFLINE. This leads me to believe that my name is STILL on the list when I'm offline & it's server-glitched... Like half characters have this problem including my main character. My unaffected alts all have the default setting for Searching for Party on OFF upon logging on...which is how it has always been until around April of this year.
Has to be server-glitched not game-glitched coz I tried RoM on a different computer & same problem, my characters that have this problem have the same problem regardless of where I log on

I've never used the LFG selection, so bear with me on this.

You might need to first deselect the Server Save option (presuming that you're using it) and uncheck the LFG option for each affected character, then log out and go find the hidden RoM data folder on your computer. You will need to have gone into Control Panel/Folder Options and enabled "Show Hidden folders, files, and drives" first.

From there, use File Explorer to navigate to C:\Users\{account name}\My Documents\Runes of Magic, and find the character folders for the characters which have been affected. Delete those folders.

Log in on each of those characters and allow the server to rebuild the folders. Once you've logged in on the first character, re-enable Server Save, if you were using it in the first place.

This should fix the issue. In any event, let me know here what the outcome is.

Otherwise, just install the Ultimate Blacklist add-on and it'll block all those whispers so that you never see them no matter what the checkbox is set to. I've been using it for the past 2 years or so, and haven't seen any of the spam. Sure, you still hear the little sound file that plays when you get a whisper, but you won't see the text.

I wish your suggestion would help but: I don't ever use Server Save; I always uncheck LFG as soon as I log on since it automatically is checked upon login & make sure that it is unchecked before I log off, but when I relog again, the box is checked again even though I had logged off while having it unchecked.

Rebuilding my character folders doesn't fix the problem. I have the same named characters on more than 1 server - same named characters use the same folder regardless of what server they are on - yet only 1 server is affected & the other is not.

Updated RoM on a laptop that I hadn't played RoM on since like last winter (my problem started in April of this year), hoping that it could somehow pull info from last year & override my problem but it didn't work either... ugh.

Seems like regardless of what I do, the box is always checked when I log onto my affected characters LOL.

Not to also mention that I used to have the problem where I would uncheck the box but while I'm still online, all the sudden like 30 mins later I would start receiving goldseller spam whispers again & opening the Search function again to look at what my status is, it has magically mysteriously rechecked itself without me even knowing LOL. At least that hasn't happened again in months lol.

I know those goldseller spam blocker addons exist but I'm trying to limit my amount of addons & plus I don't want my name appearing on the Search list, makes no sense why only some characters are affected & others are not.

Seems like once you check that Search box, your character name is forever glitched onto there regardless of how many times you try to remove yourself from it =(
