So maybe ill put a diffrent twist on this. I get no error messages i make it all the way to log in screen and it tells me i have a diffrent version than the server. Im kind of lost. I downloaded directx, added all the missing DIIs and what not. But nothing. Maybe im saving the directx program in the wrong spot or something. im about to give it up.

If you downloaded directx instead of running it you need to look for setup.exe inside the folder that contains the download.

Ok Master how long ago did you actually download the client?? Sometimes you will get this message when you have a very old client. I would suggest getting the newest client and bite the bullet. Do a complete uninstal, saving your screenshot folder only, and even getting rid of the hidden RoM folder in your documents. Then doing a fresh reinstall using the newest version of the client. That has been mentioned before and rears its ugly head at times for everyone.

Reinstall DirectX9 and it should work.

I had the same issue with the missing DLL file, tried the restarting and still nothing. Took your advice and it seemed to solve the problem because I am able to get into the game now. Thanks for helping!! :o

Ok this is getting out of hand. Guys you need to go here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/…px?q=direct%20x and choose the web installer. It will install just what is needed to get back into the game. Kalvan if you see this it really needs to be stickied somewhere where everyone can see it. Too many new posts are beign made on this KNOWN issue mainly because it seems noone is willing to do a bit of forum searching. Sorry Kalvan or another CM/Gm that sees this but it is frustrating to see the same posts over and over when a fix is readily available and talked about.

Some people DID update their Direct X and still can't run the game. My friends has even uninstalled and re-installed the game still can't run it.

I failed to check the forums for this problem since I had a major crash a few months back and had to strip my recovery disk info from somewhat 'missing' files and I thought after I fixed my system and tried to download and re-install this game again(3 times mind you.... in about 4 days lol) After getting this message, I thought it was my computer. Glad I figured this out so far. Downloading Direct X right now hope it works... or I give up.

are you sure it is the same problem then? because re-installing/updating DirectX direclty from the microsoft.com website (regardless of webdownload or redistributable package) fixed the "d3dx9_42.dll missing" problem for those who had it.

there are countless other problems that can happen but this specific one is fixed by reinstalling DirectX. So just check that your friend is actually having THIS problem and not something completely different.
