Fast Internet High Ping

The game was fine a few days ago even after chp5 patch. However when i logged on today i had a 15min loading screen. When i finally loaded in i was at 280ping which is normal but the moment i moved it shot up to 5k-1m ping. After afking a little bit it goes back down to 280 ping. I have a fairly fast internet too and it seems other games are not affect only rom. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

280ms ping? Playing from Australia?

I would do a good malware/ anti-virus scan.

If that comes up clean try contacting your ISP & have them look at your connection.

It could be a hardware problem with your modem/router.

It could also be a bottleneck between you & the RoM servers. Running tracert 206.253.173.51 might help pinpoint any bottleneck & your ISP might be able to help with it.

could something be blocking the connection to cause such high ping? i was playing another game and the ping was 220ms same with this other game...it's only rom that has 50k-1m ping when i move but 280 when i dont...could this be because i might have blocked rom accidently or something? im pretty sure its not blocked by the firewall but maybe another feature.

Hello holytrident,

If you don't mind me asking... where do you live?

And as GarryL suggested. As far as I know, there are no connection issues. If you do a tracert or use pingplotter to get a few samples. You could potentially see what the problem is located.

Ping is based on distance not speed and on top of that ... it could result to if you are using a wireless connection or not (Please try a wired connection to ensure it isn't a wireless problem) and delays on the servers/connection problems from 1,000 factors.

Im from australia and i ran a tracert and everything but it turned out fine...vent ping is 250ish and this other game's ping is 220ish...its jsut rom that has 50k-4m ping (4m new record) and the funny thing is i dont d/c with high ping which normally happens before.

I also play from Australia.

Could your anti-virus program be blocking RoM? Try turning it off briefly to check.

I can't think of anything more that may help.

I give up!!! anti virus...tracert...wirewall...I've tried everything!!! every other program/game has good ping but i jsut dont understand why rom is the only one affected...i love rom and i think it has one of the highest potentials as a game but its just unplayable with 15min loading screen and when your finally loaded in all you can do is type and sometimes it takes 5-10min for what you typed to actually update

With the very slow loads it just possibly could be a corrupted file somewhere.
Might be worth downloading a fresh client & doing a clean game install..

Have you tried making an account on the Aussie server & seeing if it loads ok there? If its bad there too I would reinstall.

15 minute loading screen? Can you please post your DxDiag? (You can find the link on how to post it in my signature)

um..tracert vivox server that does the chat servers for rom. no idea of the login's offload to them, or if you have a specific one. but a 15min loading screen sounds like the client is waiting on something. mmo's transfer very little data so it sure as hell isnt a download =)

a quick snort shows mine @ Destination: 70.42.62.210
rwp.vivox.com and encrypted

tuna may know if you have a specific one. also try shutting off winblows firewall, briefly of course, and running the client.exe as admin.

just a thought

I've tried what pazuzzu said and it looks fine and I've logged onto the Aus servers and the same problem existed. Ill try to re-download the game then and see if that works. I'm curious about what Pazuzzu said about client is waiting on something...what would that imply?

Quoted from "holytrident;539590"

I've tried what pazuzzu said and it looks fine and I've logged onto the Aus servers and the same problem existed. Ill try to re-download the game then and see if that works. I'm curious about what Pazuzzu said about client is waiting on something...what would that imply?

Considering you said the game was running ok after the patch I would be looking at any anti-virus update (or windows firewall) that may have caused it to block RoM which in turn could leave the client waiting for a response from the server.

I also assume you made no driver changes between the time it worked & then stopped working.

I suggested trying the Aussie server to see if that worked to rule out routing problems.

Your D: drive looks a bit full. If installed on that drive making a bit of room might help. Defrag might help too.

If its not your firewall or anti-virus & considering the problems many had with the patch it may be something corrupted when the patch installed.

I see one problem in your DX that you ahve, but it is not something that you can cure. RoM does not play nice with the new breed of integrated cpu/gpu chips. You said that RoM worked well before the patch which leads me to believe that something got corrupted. If your original instal is several clients old or older that might be the problem. You may concider doing a clean install of RoM making sure that all your addons and computer drivers are up to date while at it. Not the greatest of answers and probably the most time consuming one I know. But probably theonly one that will fix your issue.

Let me toss a couple of shrimp on the barbie here.

I see that you're using a notebook. First, are you using a wireless or wired connection to your router/home gateway? Wired, if possible, is far superior to wireless, resulting in a faster overall connection and fewer packet drops that have to be resent.

Second, it's possible that you do have a slightly corrupted installation. You might consider downloading the brand new Chapter V game installation files and doing a re-install. The new installation files fixed a problem with water textures and some of the other terrain textures. Another benefit is that sometimes a fresh installation can clean up other little evil things that creep into game files.

If you do this and also use addons (most players do), copying or otherwise backing up your existing \Interface\Addons folder elsewhere prior to the re-install is recommended.
