Problems installing

So I downloaded the slim client with no problem, then went to install, its sitting at 80% for about 30 mins at \skin\launcher_en.png, is this normal, how long should it take to install?

Thanks!

It shouldn't pause that long, if at all, presuming that the installation files are themselves uncorrupted. So, you've got a couple of options:

1. Abort the installation, then start it up again manually, if necessary. Navigate to the folder where the installation files are located and run the ROM_Setup.exe file. This will restart the installation process from the beginning.

2. Delete the installation files that you already have and redownload. There is a chance, after all, that the original files are corrupted in some way.

Both the US and EU RoM websites have the new Chapter V installation files ready to go. (Client download link: http://us.runesofmagic.com/us/downloads,client,us.html )

I downloaded both the full and slim clients (slim for reference purposes) and installed the full client over my existing and older/patched Chapter IV installation. For me, no hassles at all. It's (currently) one patch to game start, and the Chapter V files fix the "flickering water" issues that people had seen and reported for ponds, lakes, and streams.

I do recommend a wired connection for the download, just to avoid possible packet drops over wireless. More reliable and faster, too.

I am, for the moment, going to presume that you're using a wired connection from your computer to your router/home gateway, rather than going with a wireless connection.

MegaMouse, among others, has suggested defragging the HDD every so often, and this might be one of those cases where it's needed. Delete the installation files again, make sure that you're using the current FOG download manager (the one for Chapter IV may not work with the new files), then defrag your HDD and try downloading and installing again.

Thanks Kalvan, that did the trick, I defragged, then rebooted, installation took all of 4 minutes, and the game runs so much more smoother. Appreciate the help!

It could have been file fragmentation, which can cause odd things to happen with data. Or, defragging the drive allowed the utility to find and lock off a bad sector.

Either way, glad to hear that you're back up and running.
