cant download version.txt?

i just downloaded the slim client for runes of magic. it downloaded and installed without any issues, but when i click on the shortcut it says download http://rom-enus-patch.runewaker.com/patch/:80 version.txt fail!! then i click ok, and it says cant download version.txt, connection error, please check your network or firewall settings. i allowed it in windows firewall and my network connection is just fine. I live in the US, if it matters. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game three times, with the full client and the slim client. I have tried to manually update by downloading the latest patch, but i dont think im doing it quite right because its still not working. i have tried to run it as administrator. I want to play this game. what did i do wrong? if anyone can help me id much appreciate it.

Either you tried logging in while the servers were down for maintenance or your firewall/anti-virus is blocking RoM.

I have no idea what your anti-virus program is. I suggest you read through your programs help files.

From your original post, it looks like the game was still patching. Version.txt is how the game checks to see if you are up to date. I'm guessing you don't get as far as the launcher loading, you may need to open ports on your router.

Kalvan explains how here; http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=72504

Btw, the manual patches need to be installed in the correct order. If you just installed the last patch, that may be your problem. If so, you will probably need to re-install.

If you downloaded the latest Chapter V client files, there are only two patches to install. If you're using an older set of installation files (downloaded from one of the mirror sites that the EU Runes of Magic website lists), then all of the patches issued after the version number of the client will have to be installed. I strongly recommend using the Chapter V installation files.

It's possible that your anti-virus utility is either deleting or locking out temporary files that are part of the uncompressed patch(es). Some of these utilities are over-aggressive and decide that filenames which include a "$" character are infected, and need to be deleted or quarantined. You can temporarily disable your a/v utility, install and patch the RoM client, then re-enable the utility. How you do that depends on the a/v client you're using. Look in the Windows task tray to find your a/v client, close or exit it, then install and patch. When you're finished, restart the computer to re-enable your a/v utility.

Hope this helps.
