Runes of Magic US / AU

Hi, there.

I have downloaded the Fog Downloader from here, but when I launch it, it stays stuck at 0/0 MB, and the download won't start. Eventually, I get a message in the downloader that says it can't connect to the Internet. My connection is fine, and my sister is able to download it on her end, on the same network. I have this issue with both the Slim and Full versions.

Maybe it's an issue with my OS? There are lots of programs that refuse to run in Vista 64 bit. I ran a DX Diag, and it's listed below. I hope someone can help me get this up and running. I saw the thread about the FileFactory download, but I'm really not willing to pay money just to get a game downloaded. Thanks in advance.

I am going to go on a gamble and throw a couple of things that you might want to try.

Please try the following in this order:
Make sure you have a wired connection to your modem when you try downloading it again. (Since your sister can and you can't)
Run program as an Administrator (Right click on the downloader and Run as Admin).
Try flushing your DNS. (http://www.tech-faq.com/how-to-flush-dns.html)
Try forwarding the following ports on your modem/firewall/router:
Port 80 (TCP) Port 21002 (TCP) Port 16401 (TCP) Port 16500 (TCP).

I tried running as admin - same result.

I was not able to flush my DNS, even after going back to the root directory ( C: ). I get a message - "The requested operation requires elevation."

Also, I'm not sure how to set up port forwarding on my modem. My ISP does not allow us to access the modem configuration on our end.

What I'm doing now is having my sister download it on her computer, and then I'll transfer it to mine via external drive. Fortunately, our internet is super fast (100 MB/second), so if it doesn't work, I'll be back. I hope I don't run into more problems in the future, though.

I've tried a few different directories, on my desktop, in a new folder I created on my desktop, in my games folder, etc. Same result.

I logged on to the Command Prompt as Administrator, and was able to clear my DNS cache. My ISP does not allow me to configure my modem however - I have tried to enter the modem's IP into my browser before, and access is denied.

I was not able to get the game running with the files my sister downloaded. I got the following messages:

Download http://rom-enus-patch.runewaker.com/patch/:80 version.txt fail!!

Can't download version.txt
Connection error, please check your network or firewall settings.

I went in to the Runes of Magic folder and manually tried to run the Runes of Magic application as an administrator, same result.

However, I finally got it to work. On a hunch I enabled the hidden built-in Administrator account in Vista, logged into it and tried again. I'm having no problems at all. The game is currently updating fine, at a lovely speed of 2100 KB/sec. To enable the account, open your Command Prompt as an Administrator and type the following:

net user administrator /active:yes

To disable it again, replace yes with no.

I hope that this might help some other users who have the same issues as me.

My computer is responding so much faster in this login, too, so I must have a lot of junk slowing up my other one. I'm going to try to run the game in my other login, though, once it finishes updating. I don't want to gunk up this account, too, I might need it later.

I am creating a character, but my character's face has holes all over it, so it's kind of hard to make out. Maybe it's some kind of layering issue? I've tried tweaking the graphics settings for a while, but nothing I've done yet seems to help. I have the latest driver for my card. I've read that some other people have issues playing this with ATI cards, too. Ah well, I'll keep trying.

I just installed couple of nVidia GeForce GT520 cards with 1GB memory we purchased for 50 bucks each. That should be more then enough to run RoM.

Let's hope that problems you see are not from installer of the game / updates afterwards or some other sorts of graphical glitches.

I finally got the issue resolved. Ever since I updated my graphics driver a few months ago, I've had nothing but issues, so I rolled back the driver, and it looks great now.
