I'd say your hardware is more than good enough and that the problem is more of a network issue--ISP, connection to the RoM servers, and so on. Unfortunately, there's little I can do to help in that area. I'm not a network guru.

I will say that I've encountered occasional rubberbanding and lag spikes--where I've pounded on attack keys and nothing happens, and then I get killed. But for me, either are very rare.

Maybe Paz can take a shot at it, he's pretty deft at getting his dixie cups and string setup to make a fairly decent connection.

If he holds his mouth right and it isn't raining, that is.. :D

Hello timthum,

The only thing that pops into my head concerning the crashing would have to be add-ons. Most add-ons store a lot of data in your settings and need to be clear out as often as you can. (Advanced Auction House stores the buyers of every single item you see on the auction house, Extra Action Bar was rather badly coded the last time I used it and recorded a lot of events in the game which could accumulate to ~100mb if not cleared out)

Ensuring your add-on settings are always optimum could help reduce the crashes by a bit.

Just make sure that any other add-on you might use does not store data as well. The amount of data that is stored could potentially be the culprit to the crashes.

I just think its odd that any addon would cause siege only semi crash. I say semi crash because i dont get the crash untill i try to relog.and only during siege.i would think that if this was the issue than it would happen when i relog minutes before siege. I will keep this updated if i find the cause.

I find it highly doubtful that lag in SW has anything to do with addons.

IMO, it *might* be an addon issue but I don't really think it is. I have ~28 addons installed and very rarely have an issue similar to what you've reported.

What I know about how siege works can probably fit comfortably into a relatively small hat. I've had several years to think about it, though. I'm not certain as to how all the connections fit together, but indulge me.

I'm going to paraphrase Robert Heinlein's comment about dancing bears:

"It's not amazing that the bear dances as well as it does. What's amazing is that the bear can dance at all."

Consider that your server is connecting to the Arena/Battlefield server, as is your opponents' server. The Arena/Battlefield server has to create something on the order of 81 separate instances (siege matchups for 162 guilds--I'm making an educated guess here, as I've just done a manual count of the guilds signed up for tonight's siege) for the duration of a 1-hour period. The amount of stress placed on the server has to be immense, along with the amount of data flowing *through* and being processed by the server, then sent back out to the realm servers and the game clients. (I've ignored the login server since it should be out of the direct loop.)

Add to the mix a certain amount of network-generated lag (client to realm server, realm server to Arena server, back to realm server, back to client). Then add in variables such as slower or less-capable client computers, wireless client connections, wireless client connections through mi-fi hotspots (I know of several people who do or have done this), network re-routing due to regional connection issues (Hurricane Sandy hitting the NE portion of the US, for example, and the amount of network outages in that region), and so on.

RoM was never designed or intended to have cross-server guild sieges involving 162+ guilds, with 25-35 people *per guild* participating. If you take the network variables into account and the programming necessary to actually make 81 separate siege instances work, for the most part, it's a rather amazing programming feat. The bear dances pretty damned well, and it's a minor miracle that it dances at all.

Enough of that, and back to your issue. It's not really a "crashing" issue as much as it seems to be a connection issue, or a series of them. But TunaShake is correct in that a number of addons collect and store data, and that data is loaded into your computer's system memory when you start the game client. Reducing the amount of system memory that's taken up will help the stability (yeah, that's an oxymoron) of the game client.

In addition to unloading certain of your addons--which may *not* be causing the problem--also think about reducing the number of running background applications while you're in-game or in siege. Shut down mail programs, browsers, and the like. Voice chat apps shouldn't cause problems, they tend to take up little system memory. If you're running more than one client, consider shutting down the one you don't really need. In essence, reduce the load on your computer as best you can.

Anyway, I hope all of that helps you a bit.

thx Malignatus.we will see if it continues tonite ,i have never had problems quite like this before i hope its just related to the adv questbook addon.

Couple of recommendations and guide how to maintain your computer:

1. Keep your computer clean by cleaning it with CCleaner. Simply, download and install (make sure to select NO for toolbar. First run 'Analyze' then 'Run Cleaner' under 'Cleaner' tab, then do the same with Registry. When prompted to backup registry changes, select Yes, keep those files in backup folder in the case you need them.

2. De-fragment your drive by using Defraggler (made by the same folks who made CCleaner[/url]). Simply - install, analyze drive and run defrag. Note - if you have solid state HD - don't do it.

3. Install CleanMem. After install, make sure to start process and select to run it as soon as windows start. This little utility made HUGE change in my ROM experience. (fixes ROM memory issues and lowers number of crashes)

4. To improve overall gaming experience, disable everything you don't need on comptuer at the time you play the game. Game booster does that for you, if you like simple one button switch on/off for gaming. Simply, install, then RUN game booster before you run the game. NOTE: once in gaming mode, some things will be disabled such as printing. Keep that in mind if you try to print something.

5. Keep computer malware free. (this would be whole new tutorial, but as I am lazy, here is existing one from friendly web site... :) - Major Geek - How to Protect yours computer from malware! )

6. Make sure you check and update drivers on your computer. If your computer vendor does not show new driver, go to specific hardware's manufacturer site and get driver. If you are not sure what your computer is made from, again, the same company behind CCleaner and Defraggler has a tool for you - Speccy. This tool will give you summary as well details behind your computer hardware. Also it will give you web sites from manufacturer, and state of drivers.

Hope this helps, and I think this forum needs something as this as guide for players how to maintain their computers.

This is encouraging, but it's just one siege--the data sample is too small to make a determination.

Last night's siege seemed to have its own little issues. I was fortunate enough that they didn't affect me, but several members of my guild (Fortuna, Osha) had crashing issues in the first 5-7 minutes, as did several of our opponents (Swords of Valor, also from Osha). It seemed that after the first 10 minutes, things settled down considerably. Unfortunately for SoV, the crashes they suffered, combined with the somewhat smaller number of players they had in siege made it possible for us to secure the middle zone. From there, we had a much easier time taking and pretty much holding their castle towers.

It was a good siege against honorable opponents. I only wish that the early crashing issues hadn't played such a large part in it.

We had the same issue with some players who would crash if close to warden?!

Somehow I was under impression that warden crashes were fixed...

I don't think that was the case in our siege. Both sides had players crashing almost immediately after entering siege. So, they were still in their castles, or close to them. Other crashes tended to happen in the middle zone, but again, I don't think they were due to the proximity of Warden toons.

And yes, the "warden bug" issue was fixed quite some time ago.

Has anyone else been experiencing this problem or is it just you?

Did it start before or after Hurricane Sandy?
