After you install RoM, there are like 50 patches that it has to install, which will take about the same amount of time as installing the game itself.

Btw youre supposed to let the client do its own thing and not close it out. User error on your part.

The problem you're having is related to trying to update an old RoM installation. As Noblewarrior said, the game client needs to download and install 50+ patches, and there's all sorts of room for errors and file corruption to creep in.

You would be better served to go here: http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=70835 Use the Depositfiles links that Inferiority provided (and updates when necessary) to download a complete set of installation files for either the full or slim client (do not mix/match files between the two client downloads.)

Remove your old RoM installation. Temporarily disable your anti-malware program, then install from the new files, start the client, and allow it to patch itself. There will be far fewer patches needed. When it's finished patchng (the Start Game button will light up), re-enable your anti-malware program, make sure that the Region and Language are set to USA and English, respectively, then start the game.

The latest 5.0.5 client only comes in the "full" flavour. I suspect this is due to the base download and install of the full & slim clients becoming very similar in size?
