GameForge Live (gfl_client.exe) Uses 100% CPU

I've been away from the game for about 3 years. A few weeks ago, I download and reinstall RoM. GameForge Live comes along with, much to my chagrin. "Whatever," I think to myself, "I just want to play."

Imagine my surprise when the game downloads at 8 MB/s. Most major publishers' servers can't sustain downloads of that speed. Certainly not what I expected for this game.

The last few days, I've noticed that if I let gfl_client.exe run, it will spike up to 100% spastically, sometimes for extended periods. During this period, my internet connection goes nuts, almost completely filling my 6mbps upstream pipe. This happens even when I'm not playing RoM, as it snuck its way into running on startup.

Why? I assume that it contains a torrent client and you're utilizing my bandwidth to lighten the load on your download servers. I'd like to know before I unblock it from my firewall and router.

I think one of the mentors had a link in their signiture to download the RoM client without going through Gameforge Live. Gameforge Live is more like destroy-your-computer's-lives lol.

Can I uninstall GFL and just run RoM directly from the EXE, or do I need to reinstall if I remove GFL?

If it's a big deal, I can easily throttle it's traffic down below 1kb/s. I just don't want it taking full advantage of my 6mbps upstream as a replacement for their own hosting.

Inferiority has a thread where the client can be downloaded for installation without using GameforgeLive.

Me! Me, it's me!!!

Seriously though, just look for where the GameforgeLive client has installed the RoM client and make a shortcut to the "Runes of Magic.exe" file which will let you start RoM without starting GameforgeLive.

Done. Thanks.

I should have checked the shortcut before posting, but for some reason I expected they'd use a more elegant method than calling RoM's executable as an argument on their own shortcut.

Go figure.
