Downloading Runes of Magic

Hi,

So after about a year off from RoM, I decided to come back and check it out again.
When I went to us.runesofmagic.com/client-download.html, to download the client, instead of downloading Runes of Magic, it downloads Gameforge. Why is this?

Where can I actually download the real Runes of Magic?

On a side note, is Runes of Magic no longer owned by Frogster and instead by Gameforge?
Yea, there's a lot I need to catch up on -.-

Thanks,
l3g3nd

Yes, gameforge is now the distributor(?). You can use the client provided by gameforge to download the game (some have problems with this), or, use a manual download with files located...idk, there was a forum thread on this.

Auros: Thanks, I will try the manual patches if it doesn't work from the Gameforge client.

RoMunited: Remind me really quick who you are again. Your forum name sounds too familiar.

Acet... now, that names seems familiar. :)

Yes, if you download GF Live, you can download ROM from that. It is the same old ROM, it could be run without GFLive, just need to mess with few shortcuts. It is 5.0.5 too, so needs a few patches to get it to 6.0.0. Or grab it from other sources, as mentioned.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

My signature has a link to the install files as provided by Inferiority. There are the direct downloads from the Frogster servers with mirrors on depositfiles and filefactory.

This is just stupid that I have to even tell you this, but you guys on the RW side should be made aware... the installer doesn't work worth beans. If you're thinking hey, it works for all the people that are left playing RoM that may be true, but it has NOT worked for a number of people I personally know who at that point stopped playing RoM altogether because they were sick of the shenanigans. ...and now I too am one of them.

After 6.0 came out my computer has lagged horribly. Thinking that it may be related poor new coding clashing with my original installation of the now obsolete "slim" client I decided to try reinstalling. Removal went okay with only a few windows that were missed by coders and left in German. Upon going to download I was sent to the GFL downloader first (annoying but workable). The GFL installer however get to about 10% and then started telling me that interface.fdb extraction failed and the source must be corrupt. I went and tried the manual download from several mirrors and keep getting the same error messages. Of course I've made sure all AV was disabled, tried running as administrator, checked for any forms of firewalls, viruses, etc, and none of that resolved the problem. This hack install process RW has potential paying clients deal with before getting to play the game is bad business, and again by not fixing it RW is dooming the fate of this beloved game.

I get that there are manual ways to install, but even those aren't working. Supposedly, as long as the end user is computer savvy, tolerant of the fact that they have to deal with failed install attempts jacking up their registry and then fish around in forums before finding a real installation method (despite the hackjob it may be), and patient to the point that they don't actually intend to play the game the same day the set about installing it, someone at RW thinks that is acceptible, but in many cases not even that work around is working at all.

Lastly, if you are going to make people resort to manual installations, you should be able to download current clients from the get go. This bit about downloading client 5.0.5 and then patching it a bunch of times is ludicrous. It's not too hard for RW or any distributor to do.... fix some stuff that improves first impressions, such as the download/install mechanism, the typos in the ULA, keep your install files uptodate so patches aren't required immediately following an install, and stop being so darn lazy please!

After over 40hours of decompressing files and working a way around the RW BS I have figured out the problem. It has nothing to do with antivirus, OS, admin privileges, firewalls, or my network. This issue is 100% on RW's end. For 1000dias I'll post the issue and propose some short term solutions to help others diagnose their issues. I think that's more than fair for the time I've invested in fixing the RW issue.

Yet somehow i've never had a problem downloading the game... but asking for them to pay you to fix a client that isn't really broken is kind of funny to me. Lol.

DL'ing RoM in 3 hours or less easy.

Lol? I too once thought it was a problem others dealt with, but of course not me. I've been playing since CH2, and have even successfully dl'd 5.0.5 a few times before. After all i have Fios fiber running through my garage...no way i could have an issue with a downloaded file right?,.. Wrong. It turns out my fate was the same as the leaders of my two previous guilds, who both used to spend thousands of dollars on this game, until one day, during different patches mind you, they both ran into brick walls and never were able to get the game running again. You might be thinking youre smarter than them, but they are both pretty sharp. They are both wizards at computer programming, one even writes code for popular video games, but they reached points where they had had enough of RW or Frogster and quit. No they werent actually banned. The ended up just giving over their account information to the remaining friends left playing the game and moved on to GW2.

Nah i dont care too much about the diamonds. I am just giving RW an opportunity to respond in a way that shows they even remotely care about fixing their problem or making their game more robust, and keeping this game alive. otherwise the evidence just points to the fact that they dont give a rip about you, me, or any other customer. Thats really sad because i had just been giving them props about the some of the new content rolled out in Ch6 before i was reminded that they're only 90% there and the remaining 10% is crushing this game's potential.

Funny though you say the client isnt broken.... Say it three times and click your heals... Maybe that'll help.

This is effectively blackmail. I can guarantee that Gameforge will not take you up on this.

That's not really meeting the definition of blackmail. The OP is simply offering to provide the results of their labor at a cost to cover their time invested in finding a solution. OP is hardly threatening to expose or extort for gain anything that can't be figured out by others in like circumstances. I would have to agree though that Gameforge will most likely not take him up on this. Not because it is blackmail, but because historically Gameforge does not appear to be overly concerned with resolving known issues or improving their customer relations.

Actually it is not. There are no threats here. Look up the definition before making accusations.

I am simply offering a solution that I came up with after putting in a great deal of effort. Since we all know RW doesn't show appreciation on their own, I offer my findings at a small price... which doesn't actually cost RW anything but would be appreciated on my end. It is completely their decision if they want in or not, and I won't be heart broken or take any negative actions in the likely event that they choose not to learn or address the problem.

I have worked around the problem for myself and would be happy to point any non-RW person struggling with install problems in the right direction too.

Or, you could post the solutions for free, just like everyone else does.

That would be enabling the problem, like giving money to a homeless person, no offense to any RoM playing transients trolling the forums today. I've taken homeless people to dinner and gotten them setup at the mission for a better life, but to throw them $5 and drive off just guarantees they'll still be stuck on the streets a year later; 5yrs later;..maybe the rest of their lives.

You've talked a lot about GF leaving stuff broken so I'd think you'd agree, a better approach is for GF to start addressing some of their own problems. I've already offered to help individuals fix their install issues and save individuals some grief, but doing GF's job for them just ensures they won't pick up their game and improve. I hate to say it but RW->GF seems a lot like the guy on the Target street corner moving over to the Wallmart corner, and if I drive by and don't throw him a bone, we're actually both better off.

I highly doubt that Gameforge would be willing to take you seriously, asking them to pay you for a fix. They ignore many people even when the fix is offered to them for free.
