Server Move

Hello, GM'S and CM's
I would like you to move my account from Grimdal to Reni, and i have opened up an ticket for it but after 5 weeks it got finally closed. As an IT professional you can not tell me you can not move an Account from one Server to another Server as this would not make no sense... but ok. I spend all my money on a Server that finally is less populated than when i started playing the game. So my question is you know how many people are playing on a server if you see that is one that needs to migrated so why not migrating it or at least if you been asked to move an account please do it and not wait 5 weeks as this is a concern as we are your customers. or at lest move all my stuff from the old server (Grimdal) to the new server (Reni) to my new toon i think that would be more than fair? would you not agree. thx.

Won't happen. Research the 100 other people that have asked and posted on this subject and move on. Make a new toon or play on Grimdal.

1) Playing on Reni - good. Everyone should be on Reni. Well, almost everyone.

2) Not realizing that moving accounts across servers was never possible, is not possible, and most likely will never be possible - bad. ROM never offered account moves. There are countless threads on the subject.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

While it might be possible from an IT sense, they won't do it. Period. Done. End of story. Come back later.

Many things they told us are not possible are actually quite possible. It all comes down to keep customers happy and do some work.

RoM backend is DB and you as IT professional well know that data can be easily transferable from table to table without much problems.

I am not buying either that they don't have tools to do so...

There's "it's possible" and there's "We didn't purchase the tool to easily do that" :)

I'm guessing GF did not purchase the tool to easily move toons between servers.

Yeah, I've been working with managing what is essentially a database system for a while (28 years, since 1985), and I've seen more database corruption than I ever wanted to see. And a good part of that time was spent on interfacing and data movement. It is never ever easy process. As IT person, you should know that. Heck, my current project involves updating what is essentially 2 tables - ICD-10 codes if anyone cares to know. It's been going on for almost two years of active full time development by several people. It is behind schedule, and that is after US Congress allowed to extend deadline by one year, because our system is not the only one behind schedule. So, yes, I am fully aware of the work involved.

And user-level tools are never easy to write.

Not done yet? :)

Less game, more work and you'll finish it. :p

Jokes aside, without trying to take care of customers and having DB admin capable to alter DB this game does not have bright future...

Even if RW did not provide tools (which I find unlikely), it is possible to make a changes, move users from server to server and/or move stuff between servers and users... (move mounts, pets or what's not)

Still easier just to say it can't be done...

it's not "impossible" just the methods for copying characters in RoM are not in a state that you would want to use them on live servers, as far as my knowledge goes.

If you want an example - remember the Chapter4 closed Beta, where Characters were copied before to a pretty much empty TEST server to play the Beta there. Remember everything that went wrong on that and ask yourself if you really want to have this mess placed on top of all the data in a live server?

Maybe it has been improved in the mean time but if so, it never reached a state where IT or whoever has to decide about it felt confident enough to make it an option - but that is just educated guessing from my side, since actual information about the technical current state of server transfers/merges are pretty much zero.

Judging from the last official post that even mentioned such a thing like merges or transfers, they are unlikely to have looked into it by now since the transitions from Berlin are stll ongoing.

(bold added by me)

Quoted from "Phelan"

[...]
Low population
obvious answers: after we have stabilized the game we will increase marketing. once we have completed the transition from the Berlin Systems to the same architecture we use in Karlsruhe, RoM will be on our portal http://gameforge.com
Another possible solution might be a server merge, that is something we will evaluate (I am not saying there will be server merges, just that we will consider it)

If other publishers shut down their RoM versions, this has nothing to do with us. RoM is still earning good money and has a lot of potential.

Thank you for clearing that up.

Unfortunately, no, I don't remember Chapter 4 closed beta. Apparently either I was not around at the time or I was not invited... :) Care to share more info on it?

As for marketing, any move would be better then current state in USA. (no marketing at all)

Last RoM ads I saw was in PC Gamer 2 years ago.
