None of my settings will save

So I moved to a new laptop and downloaded/installed 6.0.1 from the us website. Now the clientupdate always starts in spanish and will not save my changes. The clientupdate screen has script errors on many of the links. My game always starts in windowed mode and will not save any settings changes. I have uninstalled and tried all the following: I downloaded the manual install (europe), the automatic download/installer (europe) and the US automatic installer. Every single one behaves the same way. Are the download links corrupted? I am at a total loss for what is going on :dash:

are you trying through the GF live client?

also, does the new laptop have the specifications to run the game? what you are describing happened to me when i tried to run RoM on one of my older machines just to see if it would run...

I have tried both with the GF client and without. It is the same either way. The GF client at least remembers my settings though

The laptop definately is good enough and very similar (a little better actually) to my other laptop which runs ROM fine. It has a 6.6 windows 7 score if that helps any.

My other laptop has had ROM installed for at least a year, so it has just been subjected to the normal patches, and loads/ rememembers my settings just fine. On my new laptop I am installing the most recent download and I cannot get it to work correctly. The game does play fine though. Just when I exit and restart the game I have to reset all my settings again

the settings will not save if the game crashes out...if this is the case, log in, reset settings, then as soon as they are all set up, exit the game using the "exit game" button, and that should save the settings...another option is to go into the folder containing the character settings (usually my documents --> runes of magic --> character name) and copy the folder for the character you are trying to play, or all of them, onto the new computer, and start from there...

I am exiting immediatley after making the changes, so the problem is not from it crashing.

I thought for sure your suggestion to copy the character setting would fix it but no luck. Still was a better idea than what Ive tried so far :thumbup: . I fully deleted all files/folders in the runes of magic folder in my docs and copied over all the files from my other laptop. No change whatsoever. The client updater always starts in spanish and the game always starts with all default settings.

Any other ideas?

Go to where the game is installed & find the "Runes of Magic.exe" file, making a new shortcut to it.

Right-click the shortcut and edit the properties so that it will always run with Administrator credentials.

Your settings should save now.

I made a new shortcut and told it to checked always run with administrative priveledges and no go :( still will not save settings

However... I did copy over my old client.config.ini to my new laptop and now it starts with all my old settings from my other laptop. I still cannot save new changes, but least I can start up the game with usable settings that I dont have to change each time. The update client still starts in spanish with broken links, so that probably has its own seperate config file also.

In the same folder where you found your client.exe file (C:\Program Files(x86)\Runes of Magic), look for a file named "client.exe.ini". Open it with Notepad. It should look like this:

[Version]
Major=6
Minor=0
BuildNum=2
AutoIncrement=1
Extend=2662
Country=en

What you need to change is the Country setting if yours is different from the one given in the example above.

It's possible that Windows has flagged this file on your computer as "read only". If that's the case, you can change it by right-clicking on the file then choose Properties at the bottom of the context menu that appears. Look at the bottom of the dialogue window that opens and make sure that the Read Only checkbox next to Attributes is not checked. If it is, uncheck it and click Apply.

Hope this helps.

My game is working fine, but the client opens up in spanish now for the last two days. Changing it to english fixes it but I have to do this every time I load the client. Has to be something to do with the last maintenance.

Kalvan.. I checked my client.exe.ini file and it reads exactly as you posted. I also checked that it is not read only and it wasn't. I also checked client.config.ini and it wasn't checked read only either. I assume en is the proper country code for usa?

Dangerdude, interesting your having the same issues with the update client. Try changing your game settings temporarily and see if they save.

wake21:

If you downloaded the client using the GF downloader, there's a chance that the installation got messed up. Or so I think.

It might require a reinstall. If it does, go here: Manual Downloads for the 6.0.1 RoM Client

Use the links that Inferiority provided in that post/thread. Delete your existing installation files first, and make sure you get all of the associated files when you redownload.

Once again, hope this helps. I know it's a PITA...

Interesting....my client also loads in Spanish now. Started to right after the last maintenance, and no, I did not re-load or update the installation. That being said, I do not have an issue with saved settings for the game, just the client where it starts up. I just ignore it and click play. So, i think that is a separate issue than the save settings one.

I vaguely remember having region troubles with the launcher when I installed it from the Chapter 4 DVD. One of the ini files had a DE setting forced into it so my launcher always displayed in German regardless of the Region setting I chose. Or maybe it was one of the files in the install folder had a ".de" tagged on the end of the filename or something like that.

Kalvan.. Already done it. I uninstalled, deleted, rebooted, then installed from the manual downloads for the 6.0.1 rom client. I also uninstalled/rebooted and installed the automatic GF installer from both the european and us servers. All 3 behaved exactly the same way. My very first install attempt was from the manual downloads 6.0.1

I did just do a fresh install of windows 7/drivers on this laptop so its possible i have an issue with that install causing issues, but my other programs and windows havnt caused any problems that ive noticed. Not to mention rom actually plays fine. I refuse to reinstall windows just to test that theory.

So far the saved settings issues seems isolated to me lol. If anyone else does run into this issue, you can edit the client.config.ini with the settings you want as a workaround.

Auros. Same here I just ignore the update client and click play.

omg thought i was the only one. my pc version of rom runs fine. my laptop version of rom runs fine too except the Client.exe launcher pops up all Spanish just like yours even though it had been in English all this time up until now...the top of the launch window drops down a list of countries...my Spanish launcher is categorized as Mexico & no matter how many times I click on Estados Unidos de America, it will not change to the USA... meanwhile the launcher window has no problem flashing through the ads lol but somehow the dropdown countries listing is messed up, can't click on any of the other countries either. launchers were all working fine before until all the sudden recently. I checked the region thing in the bottom right & it is already correct with USA flag & en. And I checked the client.config.ini file & that's correct too.

No clue how to manually change the webpage that shows up inside the Launcher window... the Spanish/Mexico page that has all the sudden replaced our USA page & shows up inside our Launcher window is http://mx.runesofmagic.gameforge.com/game/index/world

Don't have an issue with saving settings EXCEPT for 1 specific one: the continuous problem that once you turn on search party function whatever, I can never turn it off, the game automatically switches it on when you log off, so when you log back on, you get goldsellerspamwhispers that get sent to you while ur offline, even though you logged out correctly last time with it turned off... game never remembers this, no matter which client I'm running... so all I can think of is it's a server issue... sometimes, even when you turn it off, about 15 mins later, it has miraculously turned back on while your afk or checking the auction house LOL completely redonkulous!

The Chapter IV DVD installation forced a DE client on me and the culprit was one of the files in the install folder having a .de extension in the filename.

Perhaps you can look in the install folder and see if you can find a similarly named file.
