My settings are at the lowest they'll possibly go.
Are you also using a relatively small window size?
When I switched to a new computer with a new screen I had to switch from a smaller to a bigger window size. It was no real choice - on the lowest window size any text on screen is basically illegible in my case... This increased number of crashes significantly.

Generally,
* memory usage is the thing that causes 99% of crashes;
* people seem to have less memory usage problems if RoM is run in a window and not full screen;
* try choosing as smaller window size; this decreases resources needed.
Definitely - get one of the memory cleaners (see above). Which one will work better for you seems to be random - just try out each of them for a few days. You might want to configure memory belonging to what programs and how often should be cleaned (I recall people reporting that e.g. sometimes a buggy wifi stopped working if it was cleaned - once they restrained the mem cleaning to rom binaries things worked). You will also get an option to clean manually - it might be worth it to run this e.g. after snooping - it is still more convenient than relogging after a crash!
I myself use window size considerably larger than the minimum (but still - not full screen!); otherwise: all sliders on absolute minimum, except for the view distance set just bellow 1/4 of the slider; all shadows etc. turned off. Memory cleaner runs every 5 minutes, but I run it additionally manually after logging in and after almost every snoop jump. With these settings I do crash but rarely enough to enjoy the game; still - RoM is ugly as hell. I tried a few times to see if I can kick any of the sliders a bit to the right but gave up fast. Pity - graphics and effects are really nicely designed! RoM could be pretty pretty - just not for me...
Oh, and before the model policy was changed I was using the limited models which just removed many visual effects. I lost the animation of a fireball, but I was able to increase texture details a bit and still get limited crashes. RoM looked nicer, and it made also _huge_ difference e.g. during SW in areas full of fire towers. Frankly - pity that these models are strictly illegal now as well.
That doesn't make any sense though. [...] Why would they just now suddenly cause me to crash? On a BETTER computer?
Yep, it's consistent with what other people report. RoM crashes more on newer computers...
One thing is the window size - when moving to a new computer you just tend to switch to higher resolution without noticing, lol.
/start Offtop/guessing:
But there could be a few other reasons I can think of:
- less probable: "optimistic memory allocation" - basically all operating systems (this includes newest windows) lie to programs about how much memory is available; programs need to have protections in places where they use memory and not in places where they request it from the system (and the RW programmers might have missed that); but e.g. on my computer it cannot be the problem by itself - there is memory enough;
- more probable: there is 2GB memory limit for 32 bit programs; on older system there might simply be not enough memory to reach this limit; RoM would try to allocate some extra, Windows would say "no-no", and RoM would restrain itself (hey! it _can_ do this!); you might end up with some texture not loaded etc but the 2GB memory limit would not be reached because simply there was not enough memory to reach it; on a newer system you have memory enough; RoM says "gimme more", Windows says "here you go", and ... 2GB is exceeded, RoM happily crashes;
- some weird combination of the OS memory management vs RoM; basically, in modern OSes there is much more happening dynamically; you want more memory? OS might at this moment decide that your program should use now a different place in memory and move everything, for example; and within RoM there could be some leftovers from the olden days, not expecting such manipulations on the OS side...

But all this is simply guessing. It's clear that on newer computers RoM crashes more. Pity - also for GF who is loosing good clients with money (if they bought new computers, they should have money for dias - and these are the guys who will leave first if the crashes are not fixed! :hint: :hint: ). And obviously it's hard to attract new people. Anyone who played any beautiful contemporary game will not want to spend hours with RoM on the lowest graphics settings (and even then still crash occasionally). It would be nice to hear at least from GF if there is anything being done about this at all...
