Graphics look VERY strange now

I had not logged into ROM for probably a couple of years. I decided I wanted to get back into it, so I brought it up again.
Of course it spent many hours updating...but after that, when I finally got my login to work, it looks totally different.

The graphics are all off. Hard to describe...it's like the ground is now a tile repeated many times over. I can't really tell where the roads are, or anything...the colors are off, and it just doesn't look like ground anymore.

In my house it's pretty much ok...but when I left click on an area, it changes color and flashes strangely.
It's pretty much unplayable now. I am on the same machine that I started playing on. I know it doesn't have a graphics card.
Is that the problem? Does it now require higher graphics capability?

Sounds like the updates you performed have corrupted the textures for the game. Uninstall and download/install a new client.

This happened to many people, myself included, many patches back. Sparkles, glows around lights, water reflection, ground textures, and even weapon skins are all messed up. Of course, in typical ROM fashion, instead of just finding out the correct database files that's corrupted and letting us download just that one, we have to download and install the whole freaking game to fix it. I just put up with it because it's still playable for me.

In my own experience, this error occurs most often when another program interferes in the patching process. Usually, this is the security software such as the anti-virus or firewall.

Almost every software update/patch/install program recommends disabling anti-virus and/or firewalls during installation, but I know that I'm very much in the habit of just updating software without following the instructions of EULA's or whatever and things almost always work properly and without error.

However, RoM's install/patchers seem much more vulnerable to this interference than most other softwares which is why, in the manual patches thread and the manual download thread, the temporary disabling of such softwares is highly recommended.

Unfortunately, there is no way to correct the problem without a re-install. I know it's not the answer you want, but it's the only answer I can give.

Please uninstall first, and Good Luck with the new installation.

Ok, thanks for the responses.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, and it seems to be working fine now.

But it appears that the reinstall went to a different place, and the old install is still there, so I guess it didn't really uninstall...it just left the old files there. As long as I make sure I use the right exe, I'm OK.

If you opted for a manual install, using the link from my signature, you'd have been able to choose your install location.
If you used GameforgeLive, it puts the install where it wants to put it.

Yes, you can have installs like that. The addons are stored under ROM folder in interface\addons. You can just copy that folder from old install to new install and you are good to go, and you should update them afterwards if you havent logged into ROM in a while.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.
