Why is it Updating/Manual Patches

Wonder why your game is stuck updating? How long is it going to take to patch the game? Wonder why you get errors before even logging in? Here are some of those answers.

Q. Wonder why your game is stuck updating?
Runewaker/Frogster do not update the full client download with each and every patch. Therefore, after you download the 5GB+ of the game client and run the installer, once that completes, it has more to download and install to be able to play. Right now, about 560MB of patches are needed from a clean install. Just check the lower right corner of the launcher for progression on the current version you have installed. It is normal for it to get stuck around 79% on the update bar, then restart itself and start to load the next patch. so long as the version number keeps progressing, its all normal, leave it alone.

Q. How long is it going to take to patch the game?
How long it takes will depend on many things, one being your internet connection speed. General rule of thumb, if this is a fresh clean install, expect at least several hours to download and fully patch and that's even with a 10Mb connection.

Q. Wonder why you get errors before even logging in?
There could be several reasons as to why you get errors at the time the launcher executes. A bad patch, problems writing files to your hard drive, permissions settings of your PC and even the hardware you are using on your system not meeting the Minimum Requirements, among others. If the following manual patches do not resolve your issue, please post your issue in the Technical Issues forum.

Q. Why do I keep getting an extract to popup?
Currently there is a bug in the installation. The devs are working on it, until they fix it, you need to simply keep selecting the installation folder for the game, this may happen many many times, just keep selecting it:
By default 32bit OS: c:\program files\runes of magic
By default 64bit OS: c:\program files (x86)\runes of magic

Note: Potential workaround for the 'extract to' popup

Please heed all warnings below!!

************************************************
* USE THESE PATCHES ONLY IF AUTOMATIC UPDATES FAIL *
************************************************

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!! FROGSTER/RUNEWAKER NO LONGER ADVISE MANUAL PATCHES. THIS IS TO PREVENT CLIENTS FROM MIXING THINGS UP AND FILES GETTING CORRUPTED.

USE THESE PATCHES ONLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE ERRORS. THE FULL CLIENT IS AVAILABLE FROM THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE. PLEASE DOWNLOAD IT AND LET THE AUTOPATCHER RUN.

Install from BOTTOM to TOP, starting with your current version. Check on the launcher's lower right hand corner for current version. If your launcher does not start up, you may also check in your Runes of Magic Folder for the version.txt file found in the Download subdirectory. In that file you may check the [CurrentVersion] section.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR MANUAL PATCHES:
take the download patch from below and put it in your installation folder.

By default 32bit OS

c:\program files\runes of magic

By default 64bit OS

c:\program files (x86)\runes of magic

then execute the patch from the installation folder and let it run its course.

I'm going to fully uninstall my game and download all of these patches and reinstall this way and if this doesnt fix my crashing issues of every 10 mins then I quit this game and I guarantee you will lose a huge fan base if this problem is not fixed.

I have been trying to get RoM installed for several days now. I waited through the 5+ gb client download, and installed (which seemed really slow) and when the game interface opens, the ClientUpdate.exe starts, the meter shows progress until it gets to 100% download, and 80% update, and then the game interface closes, leaving the ClientUpdate.exe file running in the background, but seemingly not doing anything.

I would really like to play this game with a friend, but I'm at my wits end.

When I check my version.txt file in the download subdirectory, the last entry in it is "DownloadFile=patch_2.1.5.2000.en_2.1.5.2004.en.exe
MD5=81cc51d4d9010fc78a061e9f3ad4b9a6"

Any ideas?

i would look to see what version the client loader says it is. I'm gonna bet 2.1.5.2000. IF so, you need to apply the latest patch. It is linked above.

Hey guys, how long will patching be for a 80kilobytes connection? I just wondering about it while downloading the game.

no less than 24 hours straight up to probably close to 36 hours. 80kB is about 640Kb. Enter 7500 (MB, not KB) and see for yourself.

problem with your math is 2 fold, it does not take into account the actual time of installation of each patch and further, it presumes you will have full saturation of your 80KB/s connection for '22 Hours aprox' when you are downloading. Hence my math putting it at over 24 hours.

just fyi :)

It's is very disturbing as a new player that it takes a good day to a day and a half to download the 5+ GB RoM and then another 10-12 hours to download the 2.6 GB in patches? Two suggestions: a) warn people that even after downloading the RoM they still have to download have again as much in patches!, b) PUT THE PATCHES IN THE ROM!

Thank you very much, this is a great post. I thought that my patcher was defective because it would crash and restart after each patch. Little did I know I was actually updating the game each time. currently on version 2.2.1.1938.en :)

This is a really horrible design decision on the companies part. I hope their service in game and the quality therein are better. New players will most likely give up, and this is a horrible thing when it comes to PR and sales.

I suggest allowing background downloading, official manual patches, and warning about download time and patch time.

I hope 3 weeks without a patch gives them an opportunity to update the main download, but until then, I can only provide the info I know.
