Re: Manual downloads after earlier server maintenance today (1/17/2017)

Where do we place the downloads? Have downloaded but still getting errors that files cannot be found. I would like to place them in the proper folders. Shouldn't that info have been included in the post to download manually if need be? Thanks!

They should work from whichever folder you downloaded to, but best disable your anti-virus and other security softwares as they have a habit of falsely identifying patching software as virus activity and will block, leading to "errors that files cannot be found".

I had the same issue, lol.

Got the files and was like *ok, now what?*

I looked around at the permanent posts for manual patches and figured it out from there - when I dropped them into the main RoM folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Runes of Magic
it worked without having to turn anything off, though I did have to allow them to run as the patcher got to them.

I hate touching things like this, lol. I always figure I'm gonna blow my game to smithereens or something.

I'm a dummy. I need instructions for dummies.

They will run correctly wherever you place them, as they look for the ROM client, but, it checks the folder it's in first. So if you use multiple copies of rom on different versions, is best to place it in the ROM game directory.

I didn't try to run the files, if that's what we were supposed to do.

I just grabbed them and opened the damned launcher again and waited to see what happened, and that errored out til I moved the files.

...like I said, instructions for dummies, plz.

I'm surprised there isn't a sticky some place with instructions for such occurrences.
(I figured meh, either my game was gonna run or my comp was gonna melt down... again)

put the patch files into the runes of magic folder then run as administrator.

Even running as administrator while having the files inside the same RoM folder, I keep getting "Fail to extract the data, extracting process aborted!" and "The system cannot find the file specified." Turned off anti-virus didn't didn't work either. Tried to let the launcher patch itself but get the same files not found error.

Only other person I saw having similar problem thru searching was years ago Was doing a reinstall, stuck on patching 100%/100%

I called Geek Squad- I felt really stupid as it took like..30 seconds for him to show me what to do. From file manager, copy them into the main ROM folder. Then click on them. Run. If you have Win10, it will tell you it is blocked because of some stupid thing, unknown source or something. There is a link for "More Information". Click that, click run anyway. After they have both run, launch the game and let it update. No need for administrator anything. Easy-peasy, lemon-squeezy.

I wish that worked for me. Having the files already manually downloaded & ran from there gives the errors.
If I let the launcher try to patch itself, it redownloads the patches, as if the patches weren't already inside the folder & gets the error that says server address is wrong and cannot download about 50% thru (makes no sense coz if so then how did it get to 50% or whatever) & then auto shuts down launcher & restarts the downloading of the patches again, into a neverending loop.

If thre launcher is attempting to re-download, then it's not that it doesn't see them, it's that it sees incomplete files.

Are the files you downloaded the correct file size?

I Switched to Internet Explorer and was able to get the full file..for some reason Firefox won't download the full patch

This kinda thing irks me in much the same way as fluffy bunnies don't.
Why one browser would refuse to operate correctly yet another will is just plain weird.

sort of like how one game works flawlessly on my computer and one is full of bugs and crashes continually

Then stop playing the game that crashes all the time and play RoM instead! ;)

I just downloaded the game and patched it - successfully
I have no idea what or how it ended up getting completed - the last 2 patches were giving me errors - and required that I restarted the entire patching process from the very beginning (meaning I had to basically install every update from the beginning of time)

Then I had to download the manual patches - and then I got another error on that. And then I was downloading these 226MB patches when they should have been 399MB? This entire process is confusing.

I think you guys need to do some testing on this - because you almost lost a customer through the process. Luckily I am persistent, but I was very close to just saying screw it and uninstalling the game.

I don't mean to be negative but I'm just saying - most people would not have gone to the lengths I just did to get this game installed (which I haven't played in years)

purely from ticket system, there were others who encountered this too. most contacted support instead of the fjorums.
