Memory.

Memory problems?

I think u guys hsould buy a seperate server and transfer toons that hae been in active for 1-2 years in there to help open up more spance and/or memory on the servers. I believe those toons that have been made and jsut sitting there are more or less a waste ofspace and if they want to ractivate the account all they need to do is call in and can hae that chacter moved back onto that server,

That might possibly also help withmemory leaks? id unno

couldnt hurt, I know a lot of games do this

but the memory leaks in this game are INSANE.

having textures glitch out, falling through dungeon floors, crashing over 9000 times in siege or just crashing using a teleporter. To people with epicsauce computers too.

I doubt those inactive accounts/toons are causing the problems.

Most of the Memory Leaks are client side and that is done when programs are overly-bloated (or coded badly).

Memory leaks that cause crashing are the local client (bad cleanup routines in the code). This has nothing to do with how many characters are on the server be it active or inactive (those would be closer related to housing item issues and the complexity of the problem and how to solve it)

Also if they were capable of that, character transfers through servers would exist. Space on the server isn't any of our concern either, I can assure you most of our character data might fit on less than a dvd, the log files would be the biggest data hog.

I'm not here to defend frogster, but at least know something about client and server operations before trying to make suggestions on how to improve the game on a technical end.

While they might think of that, they will put on discussion for say a years time or more of if they should upgrade server nodes too. The current server nodes are archaic in todays standards . However, why bother upgrading server nodes if they have to process poorly coded content:D

Well since they have said there won't be any server transfers allowed I doubt they will let you "temp store" your inactives on another server, then get it transferred back when you want. I can see the flood of calls coming in now from all the little QQ'ers wanting their inactives returned only to continue being inactive on them. No, there's too many variables in this and the biggest one is assuming players will use this responsibly, which as we all know, they will not.

Server performance does affect some things locally on client, since synchronization of activities on two sides tends to get a lot wonkier when one side is severely lagging. But, that only to a relatively small degree, besides perhaps siege and special events like announced GM visits.

There are probably some performance issues server side on size of the database tables being too large from inactive toons, unless they prune and back up that to secondary archives. Which means... hey, OP, go to Palenque. It is the newest server, so less likely to suff... Oh, you are on Palenque? Never mind, then. :p

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Well, this week has been a hell of "oh look mail's gone again" and "oh great I just wasted 2 transport runes and 2 guild castle transport runes and a couple of Home Sweet Homes yay!!!" and "OMG this loading screen is never coming up is it?" etc etc etc.

Maybe because other servers routinely deal with this stuff you aren't feeling as irritated as we are on Palenque- we're not used to it at all. Guess Pal doesn't have that new server smell anymore :(.
