Some actually useful improvements for disabled

This game gives very little consideration to its users with neuromuscular problems or to those with visual problems. Many improvements to make their life easier would have mass appeal.

Since you are so intent on adding new features instead of fixing your horrific quality problems, I would like to add some suggestions on new features I would like to see that would make life easier. Some of these arise from problems I have with my right hand - I've lost about 50% permanent usage and am semi-paralyzed and your newer content makes it extremely difficult to use the new zones.

1. When you add paths to new zones, do not surround them with fence posts and obstacles in the middle. The combination of limited hand movement and laggy response times means I get stuck constantly.

2. Have a key combination that allows selection of nodes for gathering - the less I have to move to the mouse, the less painful and more enjoyable my game experience.

3. I use the slim client for better response time and to avoid issues until I can afford a new video card once my disability income is approved.
  • In the meantime, there are many places that I can't see to navigate in because of the lack of contrast between architectural features and pathways. Those with limited vision may have similar problems. Some examples - the butterfly court in Xavieria, going downstairs in the moonlight circus, moving through DOD.
  • Also, you don't code for those with color blindness issues which can cause the same kind of problems.
  • Consider adding a "flashlight" feature or torch item that can be used to improve the lighting and contrast in these situations if you don't want to redesign the graphics

4. Consider those with physical limitations when you come up with new events - I don't participate in many because I've lost a good deal of my reflex time due to nerve damage. I'd like to but know I have no chance. Neither do those with slower hardware. In this economy people are putting off non-essential hardware upgrades

5. Improve the production queues
  • Make the list sortable in reverse order by level. It makes sense I'm refining higher level mats and with carpal tunnel is extremely painful to scroll down the list
  • Allow some simple filters - like those items for which I actually have mats in inventory; "green" level" or "blue" level only
  • Allow the queue list to be stored on the server like other configuration information - nothing like setting up an entire queue, crashing, then rinse and repeat 4 or 5 times when your server squirrels haven't been fed for the day
  • Add an automatic refine to blue level check box from the green level
  • Add an automatic add all items in inventory - we have my husband's house set up so that you can stand in one spot and craft or refine anything.

6. Add a Transport To dropdown to the Snoops - so for example if I am in Varanas and want to go to Weeping Coast, add a dropdown that adds in the stop to Ravenfall and charges me the total. Many people don't have the diamonds for transport runes and with your quality are reluctant to buy more

7. When trying to copy names into dialog boxes for item shop or mailbox, it would be helpful to either freeze the chat window momentarily or provide me with the ability to select from "Those you have recently whispered" or "Guild Mates". This would help avoid problems with accidentally mailing items to the wrong person, especially since you have no mail recall procedure and if you send it to the wrong person, can suffer significant loss

8. Add a "who" feature to the game like any other decent MMO. Let me look for
  • People in a certain guild
  • People near me by class/level
  • People in a particular zone
  • People LFG in a way that is actually useful

I'll add more to this thread as I think of them

I always thought it was a little of both. For instance, the Do It Yourself Combat Engine is highly configurable, making it very accommodating for those with movement disabilities to participate at almost any level of combat, in any situation.

It is, there's also the click to move function, the auto-run function, the fact that you can teleport anywhere you have marked. For the higher instances, for example torch lighting in tosh, you can simply defer the task.

I have had a color blind guildie have trouble with the color crystals in hos though.

There also is a person search and a LFG finder, but whether you think they are good or bad is up to you. Personally I never use the person search. If you hit "o" then the "search" tab you can search by zone, level, class type, etc.... The LFG tool is a recruitment board that no one ever uses, although I think it's a neat feature. Most people opt to search in world/zone chat when forming a PUG. Another, big MMO *ahem* has a handy LFG tool, but honestly, in my opinion, no one would use it either, if it weren't for them offering tons of incentives(rewards) for using it.

I would love it, if players started all using the RoM recruitment board.

They implement that quite well actually. You can pug with people across all the servers or have a group already running, and if someone leaves in the middle of it, queue up another party member mid-run.

From what I understand the way it is set up now, only spammers/botters use it to spam whisper/mails to any curious enough to use the function and forget about it.

"I have had a color blind guildie have trouble with the color crystals in hos though."

People with just low setting have trouble with the blue and white in HoS... they aren't that different if you are under the gun for the first time and on low visual settings... And try doing the strat for last boss. LOL. Could they have picked more similar colors at all? I don't think so!

The only people that use the LFG finder on a regular basis are the 3rd party gold spammer/sellers that will spam you with whispers if you enable it. It should be renamed "Looking for Party" to "Please spam me with gold seller advertisements".

I second the "add a flashlight or gamma adjustment" thing. I have some fancy modern LCD monitor that doesn't have a gamma adjustment, and even if I open its glittery interface, it just adjusts itself, and it thinks I should be playing in a dark room I think.

GCH is insanely dark inside, and it makes it very hard to see hats on Chappy, to see the zombies spawn in the banquet, and to tell all the various bears apart in Annelia's room. How much harder is that for someone with real visual issues? I just have a stupidly dark monitor.

Maybe someone could make an addon that would allow us to adjust the gamma in game? Has anyone ever considered making an addon for the disabled? Before FI changed the course that FA had set in regards to changing models, it would have been fairly simple to make an addon/model change that would simplify both HoS color bosses for the color-blind. As it is now, the color-blind person's only option is to either be given directions in voice chat or swap gear, aggro the boss and die- or risk wiping the party, and that's just dumb.

Yes you can click to more or auto-run but if you have difficulty with fine motor movements and/or a little lag, try running down a path like the one south from Grafu Castle to Glinville in Land of Malevolence. The fence posts are a major problem - if you happen to get outside of them will just run into them.

And yes you can teleport but it costs runes. There should be an in-game gold equivalent method of going, if you don't have any runes and don't want to spend the diamonds. Many people (myself included) are foregoing buying diamonds until some of these quality problems are fixed. There should not be obstacles in the way of just walking down a pathway.

To see the kind of problems I have on a regular basis, try using the mouse with your non-dominant hand, and moving using the arrow keys with your non-dominant hand for 15 minutes. Try clicking on NPCs that are close to each other and you will see how difficult it can be. And using the mouse is downright painful with carpal tunnel syndrome so any clicking hurts bad and is to be avoided. To go along with good user interface design principals, there should be a keyboard equivalent. The one that is there is a pos.

Also, if transport runes are 36 diamonds for 10, that is 3.6 diamonds per movement. When diamonds are 40k each, that is 144,000 gold to move each time. A lot of gold imo

the whole darkness/night time aspect of the game seriously blows, even in normal environments it's hard to see anything at night unless it's right in front of you.

and snoop idea has been brought up so many times to charge the total trip amount instead of teleporting separately thru the zones, if only RW would listen... I think someone who knows any Chinese should go spam the Radiant Arcana forums with our suggestions & maybe RW would take notice.

What about the ability to change the font used by the game without having to 'manipulate' the font folder in the install folder? Would certainly help me anyway as the default font doesn't work too well for me & my dyslexia.

if you have wrist problems why not get a Trackball? I have one and my hand/wrist never move.. just my thumb and two fingers.

I dunno about the gamma, My screen shows fine in any light or area, Tho, ill admit, if im on my laptop on the road i have a really hard time seeing things at low settings. Could just be the contrast ratio of your screen and not really the game.

MrsBarron you might consider learning how to use the mouse with your left hand if your right hand is disabled. I am left handed and used to mouse with my left hand until I crushed it at work. Now I mouse with my right hand and just hit a few buttons here and there with my left hand for attacking and stuff.

On the mouse I use the side buttons and mouse wheel for movement.Mouse wheel left and right for strafing and side buttons for moving backwards, holding both left and right mouse buttons moves you forward by default.

It will take some getting used to but might be the way to go. Getting these guys to install a wheelchair ramp so to speak is doubtfully going to happen.

I've seen it suggested several times when it came to events, to make them enjoyable for those who have disabilities like this. One I personally had issues with was the hopping up the tree in Logar to reach the top for the leaves. Why they chose to put events like that in some of the most laggiest zones and towns in the game, is beyond me. Speaking as a 'disabled' player though, I have had to make some adjustments in RoM since I started playing. Like remapping my keyboard "hot keys". I only use my mouse when I have no working work-around solution for my keyboard.

For instance, being able to not click on an npc using a mouse, either because of lag (and for me, it does get that laggy which is infuriating in itself lol), or nerve/muscle/bone issues, you can use cntrl+tab (or shift+tab, I can't recall which combo off hand cause I'm not in game) which targets the NPCs, then 'attack' the NPC by hotkeying your attack icon.. so cntrl + tab followed by tapping V is how I get around it, as I set V up to be my attack key. There's ways around things but you have to feel comfortable changing that stuff up, and what may work for one person will not for another.

I've also got issues with colors and my eyes, so after 3 horribly failed last boss fights in HoS with those stupid crystals, and other bosses that use those kind of strategies, I had to resign from doing instance running for the most part. It's just very frustrating on a level most won't understand unless they have been there themselves.
