Exchange rate: 1 euro = 1.3145 US dollars

You do realize that we are talking about buying games items that have no value right? And servers are cheaper here because of the exchange rate. Your argument is tired and off base.

Then try comparing apples to apples.

You complained they pay less diamonds for something. They also get less diamonds per Euro. Hence showing todays exchange rate.

If they have no value then why pay for them? Clearly they have value to you or you wouldn't be talking about it.

Virtual though they may be, items and/or currency purchased with real world cash retain a real world value. Just ask the gold spammers if they're broke.

I'll fanboy up the thread a little.

Let's say I spend $10 on diamonds, no diamond sale in effect. I get 210 diamonds so 4.76 cents a diamond. I go buy a puri not on sale for 50 diamonds. I have spent $2.38 on the puri.

Now lets look at this playerbase destroying sale of the weekend.

I spend the same $10 on diamonds and get 462 diamonds or 2.16 cents per diamond. I go and buy a puri back on sale. For each puri I get charged 31.875 diamonds or... wait for it.... 68.9 cents.

Let's review.

$2.38 per puri or $.69 cents per puri. thats a massive discount. WHY ARE YOU CRYING SO MUCH??

superfanboy out.

FIX SIEGE!

I agree with Fix Siege.

Here's the thing. $.69 is no big deal, one at a time. But let's take a bigger picture look at this kind of spending.

Most serious -> moderate players will do mini-games every day. That's 160 Phirius Shells per day ~ 4800 per month ~ 19.2 Glorious Stats or 24 Crimson Stats.

As one of the primary sources of income of many players, this is almost a requirement (at least as I see it). Right there, "required" monthly spending is 19.2 x $0.69 = $13.42/month AT THE DISCOUNTED RATE.

At the standard (expected) rate, this would be 19.2 x $2.38 ~ $45.70. Just.For.Puries

For Phirius Shells alone...

Then you have to think about instance runs and mem farming. These also require puris. So maybe bump that value from 19 to 25 or 30.

Then add other "required" expenses for end game players (I'm not there yet, but I have an idea). We're talking golden hammers, and big angel's sighs. That kind of thing. Things that are pretty much ONLY obtainable through the cash shop.

So whatever else you plan on buying, go ahead and add $13.42 a month to that. I understand that some of these players do it for free, but the bottom line is SOMEONE has to buy the diamonds to support that.

I'm all for supporting this game, I put in about $20 a month, but you can see how far that will get me.

TL DR -> Single Puris are cheap, but consider the amount that are necessary. :)

Mekun's argument wasn't clearly stated but I think the reference is to the fact that, unlike a "normal" product, there is not a cost associated with producing a virtual item. Obviously, there are costs associated with distributing a MMO. However, the majority of these costs are in the development stage. The day to day personnel and server costs are fairly minor on a mature game.

What this means is that raising the cost of a virtual item such as the ones in question cannot be associated with a raise in production costs. There wasn't a 25% increase in fuel costs to transport a "puri". Yes, there can be some fluctuations in server and staff overhead but, in this case, all the players have seen is a consolidation of both support and infrastructure. Furthermore, this has lead to a *decrease* in both functionality and the level of services provided.

What the consumer/customer sees is a product that is decreasing, rather than increasing, in quality for a greater (and seemingly ever growing) cost. It really doesn't take much thought to realize that this model is going to lead to failure in the long term. This isn't a question of if... just when...

Okay superfanboy here is why, 10% of us buy diamonds to support the other 90% who enjoy the game. No matter how you crunch the numbers its a 20% increase, why are we getting punished for the 90% of freeloaders? Make it harder for the F2P before raising prices on loyal players.
There is no 20% increase... a 'perceived' increase because you are only looking at 1/2 of the equation - the price per puri. You aren't looking at the price of the diamond side of the equation. 120% more diamond sale. the math... so elusive.

Sure I see what you are talking about but what happens when 120% bonus stops but the prices stay the same? Careful how much rope you give them cause they will hang you with it. 10% of us paying if that percentage drops there is no game to qq over.

I agree that the base prices in the AH are way way too high. And that diamonds are way way too expensive. So I am with everyone. I'm just saying this sale isn't as bad as people are making it out to be.

As for me I was one of those 10% but my diamond buying is on hold until siege lag gets fixed. note that I'm not saying that siege needs to be perfect, it just needs to be as it was 3 weeks ago (or so.)

Regent, there also comes a point where no matter what the revenue stream is (be it positive or negative), that bad management practices will cause a business to fail.

The sales team seemingly not paying attention to what is being asked for, in addition to not paying attention to what was previously offered, is one symptom of a bigger issue: either a failure to understand basic economic strategy, or an inability to understand what the customers are asking for. Or it might be both. Either will cause the game to close its doors in the long run, and it has nothing to do with how much money is currently being pumped into the game itself.
