Regarding announcement of change in Siege time

Dionaea: Is this a process of elimination kind of effort? If this is the issue, is it ever going to be moved back to a more reasonable time for siege? Inquiring minds want to know..Quite a few of the players in the guild I belong to are on the East coast and work early mornings. Staying for siege from 11pm to midnight may become a problem....

The late time for East coast players indeed is something, which I already flagged as a Hot Topic to be further looked into. I have not forgotten the last time this was discussed and can totally understand the problem this creates for our players who have to get up early in the morning for work or school :(

At this point I have no further information to future Siege Wars time adjustments. We will continue to monitor Siege Wars and it's performance after this change and keep you updated with any coming changes as soon as we can give such information.

I feel for those on east coast, however, what can be done? If moved back an hour instead, the west coast people would complain about not being home from work yet to siege. Hopefully they get it figured out and back to the normal starting time :)

Dionaea,

It might be in the best interest to put something about the change in siege time on the main runes of magic news feed on the runes of magic homepage.

This may alleviate the amount of confused and bewildered masses that will be coming to these forums later tonight with "OMG SIEGE DIDNT START WHATS WRONG" threads.

I go to bed at 9pm to be up at 5am, I have a big boy job and make big boy money, no siege no real point in me playing anymore, no more buying diamonds. Yes some of us really do stick around for siege. Sleep and real life comes first. I don't expect anyone else to feel the same, this is my personal stance.

Edit/

Will Siege war be updated again when DST hits next month?

8

Should certainly help with lag since a significant portion of the East Coast will no longer be able to siege.

That would be a lot more plausible a theory if it was not that the last time they had it at 11, there was no significant decrease in participation, at least none that I saw. The lag issues are far, far, far more likely to cause people not to siege than delay.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

okay because you like warp the facts let me clarify, during the last DST they pushed siege up by 1 hour for a total of 6 days. They announced this and assured us it would be back to normal time the following week. Please stop making it seem this occurred for a long period of time. Don't misslead others, this is completely different as it appears to be permanent.

grimoru, please read the statement once more. This time change is an approach to address the lag and performance issues. ;)

Let them do what they need to do to try and fix siege. Chances are, siege is unplayable for you anyways so why all the QQ is beyond me.

Nowhere did they say it would be permanent, anything other than what's in the announcement is pure assumption. (Yes, even deducting off what's given is still assuming).

Its been a solid month of (more) broken siege. Let them do what they need to do. At least they're doing SOMETHING.

I agree better a fixed seige 1 hr later than a broken and buggy segie 1 hr earlier.

First, this is not the first time sw has been moved back an hr and I am sure frogster recognized how much we disliked liked it, so i doubt they would do it on purpose unless they thought it would help. I would have preferred sw been moved up an hr but I also understand 6pm pst is kinda hard for ppl to come together. Even tho I dont know why the lag started in the first place, it seems like they are trying to fix it. Just as a personal preference, me personally would have liked to have known before the day of sw that sw would be moved back an hr. But I understand those on the forums are only told info just before us and would like the higher ppl in frogster to try and notify us sooner, if it is possible.

We know it will help stop the lag. I also know that my guild will no longer siege. Most can't stay up that late and nobody stays up late enough for signup.

Too bad. siege is the only reason I still played. I guess I quit until further notice. I expect half my guild to do the same.

Yes, I have to ask.....Is the fact that the numbers of folks who do siege war will GREATLY decrease, your answer to the lag issue? I see no other reason for it. Changing the time accomplishes nothing else. The guild I'm exists ONLY to do siege war so the fact that it's a hour later now and our sign up will be happening at midnight means we NO LIKEY and will not be playing until further notice of reinstatement of non ridiculous SW time. Thank you and it was a slight pleasure doing business with you.

If you only play for siege then im sure hardly anyone will notice you are gone.

For all the panic about the time slot for siege please note this:

Quoted

If it shows the same performance issues at 3 different time slots then it confirms that it is either network or performance capping out.

If it only shows during one or two of the time slots, then you have a time window of what is causing the problem and don't need to be chasing network performance issues but finding out what the server is doing during that time window.

from http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthr…8525#post508525

It is purely diagnostic at this point and while I did say it almost 2 weeks ago, they seem to be heading in the proper direction... just at a very slow pace (although given the time dilation of frogster's efforts, maybe this is fast)

Really changing time is the fix??? That's like having a crappy road and instead of fixing it, they put up a $50 sign that says "rough road ahead". I agree with others, me or my guild will not be in siege, maybe on Fri or Sat. We have moved on to games that do work.
