Just so everyone knows - As you probably just noticed - the problems have not been solved yet. The issue is being worked on and I hope I have a 'good news' update soon ;)

Apparently it was a DDoS attack, according to their fb page. Good to know staff is available to respond fairly quickly.

Give them time to fix things. If you're bored, go out and hike or something. There are other things besides RoM in life.

Okies, I know nothing about technology- that said, when I couldn't log my alt in last night I checked that website that shows the server status and the login server wasn't actually down- it was showing ping over 10k... which is consistent with DDoS yes?

Denial of Service attacks are done by someone repeatedly spamming something at the server and causing overloady-like-symptoms, no? Which would cause the ping to go up super high yes?

So why all the tinfoil hattery?

Just cause some basement virgin googled DDoS how-to's and went to town =/= a gasha conspiracy.

The last time the gashas bugged (the really great one with the runes and the dumplings) they didn't rollback the servers or take them down to fix it. And since when do they have to take the servers down to even fix the cash shop anyway? They only take the servers down for maintenance once a week- and they change the cash shop a lot more than once a week, so it stands to reason that they can change the cash shop settings on the fly, no?

Call me crazy, but as far as I can tell, what Dio and Roeksha said is completely consistent. No cover-ups needed.

Yay we got some nice stuff from gashas (and while no one I know on Pal got all 7 items out of any, the drop rate was terrific) and some twit tried to frack up our servers- which is not cool. DDoS attackers deserve to be pried out of their basements, dipped in honey and left staked out in the sun next to a fire ant colony.

Well, a denial of service attack is possibly what happened, but I don't see that as likely. It's not exactly as you explained, where someone simply googles "How to denial of service attack" ->read for 5 minutes ->cause server to go down/get screwy.

Some sort of exploit would need to be found in order to introduce enough requests (or whatever you attack means are) to the server to cause significant lag. Generally servers for MMO's (im running under the assumption that RoM's servers are like this) have checks set in place in order to prevent a single or small group of users from causing damage in this way without in some way circumventing these checks (ex, whenever you make an account on a site you have to do some sort of "enter these letters from this image" thing, which prevents someone from setting up a bot to create account after account after account...etc).

While I would doubt that a DoS attack actually happened, it ofcoarse is possible and that the exploit was fixed. I'll let the fms/cms/etc speak to that.

just my 2 cents.

The weather can have an effect on the servers too (mainly the connections) but this does sound like a dos attack to me. I also wasn't able to log in when I was trying. Checked my ping to the servers and it was well over 5k which is very abnormal when I usually ahve 100 or less.

Good morning! (...or rather, good night, I guess)

As was stated by me yesterday by use of Twitter & Facebook we experienced a classical DDoS attack toward our login servers. Our IT had to shut down the gameplay servers to address this issue. The forum was disabled just in case.
The gameplay servers returned one by one as stated above, of course.

We have not experienced any further issues regarding the above since then.
