Forum rule 6, personal attacks. I may or may not have gotten one myself. And it may or may not have been sent by Nytefall, and it may or may not be an 8 month infraction. But you will see.

That *was* Forum Rule 6. Linky: http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/announcement.php?f=269

Ahem. While this is an emotionally-charged subject, let's not slither down into the gutter and start name-calling.

It started not long after Frogster moved the servers from California to Florida. There has been a lot of speculation about what happened but no official word from Frogster as of yet. Frogster is diligintly working on recovering accounts as fast as they can. If you haven't been hacked then just watch your account and be sure that you take screenies everytime you log off of your bags and other items. Only real way to keep the hackers out is to log in and never log out, but that is a bit hard to do for those of us with RL jobs and issues.

Not sure who is to blame and who's fault is failed security setup, but I am sure that dis-functional support incapable to work with problem demands is result of downsizing Frogster EU did for North America.

From bad support to questionable sales practice and moves such as trying to hide how many accounts have been hacked by requesting Wiki page to be taken down (based on lies)...

Still no official solution for the unsecure game client/servers...How long has it been, how much information needs to be stolen from players till a Security Patch is implemented to properly fix the "holes".

From a professional view the way the security compromise is being treated is rather pathetic. Many other companies/business would have had a proper security fix within 1 or 2 days if not hours after a breach... Do the people at both companies not know the code used in the game/servers? How is it the 2 company's that put RoM out are unable to deal with a common event aka hacking... In this day and age companies are supposed to stay on top, have the technology and know-how, to battle such events. A great company/business would fix its product/s problems asap and keep its community/followers informed even if its just a little bit of info...

Who do you trust your information with...:o

First only Frogster knows the codes for the login servers seeing as they are seperate from the actual game.
I personaly do not think the blame can be stuck on Frogster totaly. A lot of players need to man up and admit what they did to keep this problem going. Players have been complaining about the secondary password and yet it is a part of the account security. Without the secondary password most if not all accounts would ahve been hacked faster. Those that are complaining about the secondary password and gotten hacked really should look at what they used and change it so it is not the same as their main password. Using your forum account info as yourgame account info is also part of the problem. We cannot put the total blame on Frogster when some of the playerbase is too lazy to sue different login info for their forum account and their game account. The breach may not ahve been in the game login servers, it may have been in the forums.
My advice for everyone is if you use your forum login details for the game then you should immediately change one or both of them and set a new secondary password. That is the only real way to stop these hackers in their tracks. Otherwise everyone is just gonna keep spinning their wheels in the mud and QQ about what should never have happened.

Yeah... I didn't really think much of it at first but yesterday a GM logged in and it started a massive uproar with a lot of players in Govinda.
Seems like people have turned against the GM's..

Ok, I don't know what you're trying to say at all with your first bit. Frogster does not work with the source at all, which has been made clear a number of times now, they can work with scripts, which are npcs and events etc etc. Though most events are done through Runewaker, atleast the mainstream ones from the looks of it, Frogster just sets the prizes.

Frogster is responsible for two things, Server Security and Server Stability, the Stability for the most part it looks like they can handle as they probably have some sort of CISCO hardware firewall set up, the security though it's very hard to say.

Frogster is in charge of the website as well as all SQL tied to the game and forums and such.

Honestly you have no authority nor inside information to say if it's Frogster's fault or the player's fault, it could be Runewaker's fault as well, but we just don't know.

This topic is just becoming finger-pointing instead of trying to actually pin-point what the problem is, my original intention in creating that list was to try and help figure out what the exact problem was along with the connections.

Btw I will be restoring that list shortly, I'm just waiting on the DNS to update, Curse appears to be in Frogster's pocket so I'm going independent on hosting the list of names.

Just happened to me. I come home and my wife see's my character logging in and start posting gold spam worldchats.
I didn't even have my pc on at the time, so not much chance of me logging in quicky to boot the spammer off.
My wife logs in and gets in once and then my acct is banned.

Seems a GM was online to quickly put the stomp on the spamming and possibly save some of my stuff. I can't login and not even sure I am gonna post a ticket as the acct is much safer this way...I need a break from game anyways.
Not even sure if the character is worth saving now as I cannot login to see, only had 48m gold but totally built endgame character. I have spent alot of $$ on that char and this game.

This is what it would take I think to stop the gold spammers from using accts. A GM online to automatically "IP" ban the "IP" of the user misusing the acct. I wouldn't say an acct ban in necessary but IP ban immediately with the gold spam advertisment. They will get sick of it after some time and won't bother anymore.

I am not irrate by any means, after reading some of the reasons for this happening, mainly articles like http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/rune…th-blackmailer/

I have some sympathy now regarding this issue. And also reading many of the demanding topics on these forums that us "Users" are not so nice anymore. It must be hard for them and its obvious they cannot please all of us.

I have owned my own business and can relate with some problems that arise in your business plans not going smooth all the time. I am stumped on how they will come out of this problem and the several other problems (missing chests and items, high cs price change, ninja changes etc...)

Good luck on that, I'm off to play another game for a while...I really like Rom however, its a good game

I realize what I'm about to post here won't help/solve the hacking issue, but it would be a good idea to add all these spam sites to the block list like all other words that are already blocked. It may take them a little while to get past it, but it would make them work just a little more.

You guys need to setup a quick response system for the people who get hacked. With as many accounts as it is happening rapidly to we need to get all these players back online. This is ruining the game and the guilds that play it. Our best players are getting hacked and we gotta wait a heck of a long time to get them back ingame. Show us you care by doing something to keep us playing. Keeping everything so hush hush and having us write support tickets that don't get answered. We, "your user base", need someone who's there to help us not keep us waiting for a known problem.

we still getting spammed in artemis.. at the rate these hackers are going everyone on the bloody server will wind up a spammer.. and then have to deal with the horrible so called customer service that frogster supplys

Frogster staff says: No breach in their security so its technically players fault and they have to change their passwords.

Players says: Still undergoing hack problems even after password change.

Apart from all these security issues i observed that players who are known as rich players in server were hacked first and then hackers moved to inactive accounts and some diamond buyers account. How exactly hackers know all this information about players?

318

Saturday, April 14th 2012, 7:35am

very well known and well trusted diamond seller on Artemis has annouced that they will no longer be buying diamonds as long as the hacking continues. I would guess they spend $500-$1000 per month. Maybe people will pick up the slack, but I hope frogster understands the impact this relentless hacking is having on the morale of the long time player base and paying customers.

There are a number of things that Frogster could do, the first of which is communicate to the player base as to what they are doing to stop/ fix / solve the problem. The quiet, the silence, is eroding confidence by the day.

My account was just hacked and looted last night. Both my original and secondary password are unique and done on the on screen keyboard. No one else has my passwords or ids or access to my computer and my passwords are not written down anywhere. I have never bought gold, diamonds or anything else. This problem is coming from the servers and their operators not the way people are handling their accounts..
