I've taken a few breaks from RoM myself, plus I am a server hopper.
What seems to work best is aiming for some "old" gear first. I always have to push myself to do that, especially when I start on a new server because I have this mentality of "Oh I had endgame gear on the last server, I should just jump right back into some endgame gear here too." But really due to the economy that's really impractical. Either you spend weeks just trying to get the gold to buy that kind of gear or you spend about the same time collecting endgame stats to do it yourself... it's not fun. Just start with some older gear that's relatively cheap... maybe some RT-level stuff and the DS/ZS set with crimson stats. Then use that gear as a leg up to farm the actual endgame gear that you're used to having. It goes faster that way.
Sell dog meat and shell stats (the ones you won't be using) for quick gold. Save shell stats you want to use + do the public events at Tergothen Bay as soon as you're capable. That way you won't have to spend as much when you stat your own gear up again. Hit 70 if you can, at least on 1 class. Make sure you're with a guild that's running instances (obviously).
That's about it. That method has always worked for me really well and gets me to where I want to be within a short amount of time. Hope it helps
