Cash shop item idea

How about a scroll/item that would allow a player to rename their toon? I think that there may be some interest in this. Thoughts?

How about a scroll/item that would allow a player to rename a piece of equipment? It would retain the same stats and potentially make the item bound to the toon forever. Ideas?

The one issue about renaming the toon is - how would people recognize you? Nobody else in the game would know who I am.
Diamond scammers could pretend to be trusted buyers, or to keep changing their toon names after they scam so that buyers wouldn't know them as a scammer.

It would be much harder for GM's to catch people using third party programs as well. If they change their toon name after they were reported, nobody could track them down.

I think the way it would have to work is with a unique identifier behind the name. When you put someone in friends list, it saves their identifier and you see the name. If they change their name, the same identifier sits in the list, under another name. Yes, you might not know who the person is, but they would be on your list.

As far as scammers, the report button would report the same identifier, so they would be trackable, not necessarily by name, but by the ID.

The more I talk about this, I think that there would be some work involved, but I don't think that it would be so much that they wouldn't earn off of it. How many people have a name that they are no longer enamoured with?

There is a way to track it and it is called logs on the server and if there is not, they should put that into the system. I do believe they have this in the system though, this is how they look at transactions made in the game.

The database already recognizes people by characters, not names. I know someone that got a name change several years ago, and since they were on my friends list, they stayed there under the new name. I would assume that the same goes for the blocklist.

Personally, I'd like there to be a name change. Most games have them nowadays; I don't see why RoM can't.

I think the reputation a person builds is important, whether it be a negative rep or a positive one. Changing names can wipe that clean, so I don't think players should be able to do that at a whim. Make them start over with a new toon if they want a fresh start.

As for your other idea, naming equipment sounds like an excellent idea. I'd also love to see a kind of stamp put onto gear; something that shows who originally crafted the gear (if applicable) and who put stats on the gear. That way if you want more of that type of gear crafted or if you need help on statting you can contact the names on your gear. Not essential by any stretch, but I think it'd be pretty cool :)

The problem when you change ingame name (i do it before) is you lose all the family buff and bug the relationship u have. Need clean the relationship list lvl it again. If they fix that problem in the future (aka maybe ch7) will be a good idea.

i was talking about renaming gear with some of my friends..i thought it could be a great idea because every great hero has their own unique weapon...you don't see two people with Excalibur's running around. So it doesn't really make much sense when you see 10 "hero's" running around with a "Hero's Giant Bladed Axe".
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

mages should stack dex. word.

I like the idea but it shouldn't be forever infinite. Maybe the player can purchase this item once every year so you can't have 72/72 scammers that just repeatedly scam and then change their name.

I totally agree that you have to be careful with this. I think that this is a different issue. When it is determined that a person is truly a scammer, they should have their account wiped. I don't see what a 7 day suspension does to deter this. This is really a discussion for another thread.

I would think that if someone is a scammer, there should be a 'disreputable' list almost like a friends list. When a name is entered into the list by the user, it should not only block the toon in question, but any name changes for that toon AND any additional toons on the account in question.

If scammers want to scam, they are going to scam. We all need to be more vigilant and protect ourselves from scammers. Don't sell to them. Don't trade with them. It would not even be a bad idea to ostracize them in a way consistent with "We make no distinction between scammers and those who would harbor/associate with scammers." Watch these scammers get booted from their guilds, so as to not hurt guild reputation. Again, another thread.
