It DOES NOT ignore defense. If it ignored defense, every P/S would hit the same on EVERY PLAYER, but that is *not* the case.

Test it out if you do not believe me. On a mage side and p/s with the same gear. You'll be surprised at the ratios of damage done to the mdef of the target. It DOES NOT scale properly!!! Ty

"Scaling" would insinuate that iceblade increases multiplicatively based on existing mdef. It does not.

Again, you used it wrong.

On a non-laughable note:

A few months back Nyyx (M/P/S) and I tested her full buffed matk vs my full mdef on all her magic-based class combos. What we found out that Iceblade does bypass (or affected less by) some mdef. But really not what people would exaggerate it to be. The damage difference vs iceblade and any other comparable instants on the M/P (91k matk) or P/M (70k matk) combos were ~10k difference dmg wise against her 90k-ish matk and 12k mdmg on P/S vs my 180k-ish mdef.

It bypasses some mdef, or is reduced slightly less than it compared to other comparable instants, but against a 180k mdef druid, the difference is only ~10k.

Nowhere near how Scouts' Dex in chapter 3 bypassed physical defense.

So in layman's terms: yeah, it ignores *some* mdef. But very, very, very little.

isnt that kind of what a p/s iceblade is? spammable very hard hitting instant on a class with a huge amount of survivability?

To scale something "down" = to reduce proportionally

To scale something "up" = to increase proportionally

we are talking ratios here so 1:1 or 1:2 or borked in the case of Ice hax etc...

Comparing S/K survivability to P/S survivability is laughable. P/S is an easy one shot for any well geared rogue, while a S/K can be next to impossible to kill with a healer on them because of their insane pdef, as well as being able to see Rogues in hide.

I just don't understand why everyone gets so worked up about p/s. Your average garden variety p/s is very easily killed & a good one can only be good with the right tactics & backup. I get killed by the rogue I can't see far more often.

Instead of discussing nerfs to any class (surely you know just how wrong the dev's can get any nerf) why are we not discussing some of the things that would make a wider difference? Things like the antiquated state of the servers, old hardware that just can't process the load. Or even bugs, glitches & broken code.

I've started playing that other game which has massive public events with dozens of players, intense graphics & for me, no lag at all.

Just imagine how great this game could be if given the same sort of love that other games promoters give their product.

In a RoM like that would anyone really care about a lonely p/s in siege?

That should be discussed in another thread.. this one is dedicated for fixing p/s.

different types of survivability i guess p/s get immunes... also the only reason an s/k has that kind of survivablity is because they stack so much pdef, as a result their damage is actually kinda pathetic. even as a non /k i can get healed through a s/k attacks (iv burned down a p/k healing a s/k and then killed the s/k as an s/wd being healed by a p/k).

yes there are a great many issues with RoM but i think the fact that this one has gotten so much attention is testament to its unbalanced nature. heck even the rogue threads are not as prevalent. Also since this is a iceblade thread i think its ok to discuss it here, if you feel it has been overdiscused feel free to not post =p

who knows if RW will do anything about it I'm about to move on personally just killing some time chatting on the forums.

Ahh, I'm guessing by your join date that you have yet to experience the heartbreak brought with Runewakers track record when it comes to "fixes"..

Btw, I am posting on topic! I am simply saying that for me, no nerf to p/s or for any other class for that matter is acceptable while so many other issues are much more in need of fixing.

Yes i haven't been playing as long as most here but if we are so afraid of a fix making the game worse off then it is now, whats the point of playing it. These are suggestions to try to improve certain aspects of the game that are broken or not working as should. We make suggestions (not limited to just this thread.. plenty of other thread to make/fill up) and we hope the game devs take a look at the issues and attempt a fix. If it gets to the point of "im too scared to let them fix it" for me.. ill be playing a different game all together.

Actually, now that you mention it, there is very little point in fixing any class just for the 1 hour a day that siege runs. The fact of the matter is p/s in relation to damage output needs a buff fix for the other 23 hours of the day.

Just to be clear, I play m/d not p/s.

Hmm i guess then a k/s should be able to keep up with dps class combos on damage too? in endgame instances like tosh?

How about dps combos tanking as well as a knight? This game is not one where any class can do the same as any other class. There are class roles especially in pve settings. So I disagree with that part.

Due to some recent changes, certain dps class combos can now tank the latest instances. Roles can change in terms how people stat, however. I can tank anything up to through GCH (minus annelia).

Also, dps class combos within themselves are not on a level field. They range from terrible dps (warrior/druid comes to mind) to OP dps (w/wd).

From your sig i take it that you are a healer main? If that is the case the main issue would be aggro. Yes a healer with high pdef ( and druid stone skill and d/w defensive formation) would make a excellent tank in a party with negative/very low aggro dps... but lets be real ;) not a full tank by any means. Certain classes like m/w, w/wd, and w/r would be stealing aggro faster then you could build it.

Also, im talking endgame here.. role swapping in endgame instances like ToSH hard. Alot of ppl can tank previous instances. R/S can tank gchard bosses not the issue.

@blotoe, one of the best things about this game is the way it allows us to stat as we please so we can play as we please.

This thread is about p/s geared & stated for dealing damage. The only part of the game where that is any sort of a problem is in siege. In every other aspect of this game they fall behind.

A dps priest is a very common concept in mmo's, not my play choice but still a role that is filled by p/s in RoM. Each player has the right to create & play his/her own character in whatever way they choose. I know of at least 1 that ventures into GCH, ToSHH & AC.

So, to cut it short, it is not up to you or me to decide how another plays or what role their class could or should fill.

Enough with the nerf this, nerf that, OMG Priests can't kill me they must heeeaaaallll meeeee.......

I did that not too long ago with my toon on 4 combos, P/s, P/m, M/p and M/s to see exactly which class combo could put out the best DPS with instants. It wasn't a 100% accurate of a test because my highest mage instant is fireball at 64.

P/m with fireball @ 64 (32k on P/m, 52k on M/p) plus lightning @50 (25k P/m, 40k M/p) then Ice Wind @ 61 (P/m elite, 46k + 29k double hit) in three seconds does 132k damage.
Ice blade @72 gives 58k with bow for 174 in 3 seconds. Without the bow, it hits for 56k or 168k in 3 seconds.

So, with fireball 8 levels lower, lightning 22 levels lower, and IWB 11 levels lower, I only lose 42k dps, and that's with just over 1000 MA less on the P/m side.

I'll refrain from showing the overall 3 second DPS for my M/s because I don't feel like sparking another nerf thread.

Everything is with no self buffs, and no pots or food.
I tested it against a volunteer, then against mobs (sand crabs in TB) and the ratios held up, I did not see anything odd about the hits, the difference between IB for player and mob was consistent with the difference for IWB for player and mob.

I'm certain, that if I were to raise all the P/m skills up to 72, overall damage could easily pass ice blade alone.
