We get a ton of threads about the item shop every other day or so. I felt it was time to make one thread to cover the item shop, as well as the sales they do. I would appreciate it if a mod/cm/gm would sticky this for that purpose.
I'm going to cover what I feel is an acceptable pricing strategy, feel free to post your own.
1. Items that are consumables, such as golden repair hammers, purified fusion stones, transport runes, extractors, plussing jewels, attribute purification stones, pet items, st. phoenix potions, big angel's sighs, etc. should NEVER go beyond a $1.00 price point per item. The normal price should be around $.50 cents each unless packaged in multiples of the item, with the sale price being at $.40 or under, $.25 being an atypical sale price.
2. Rubies are an extra bonus for buying diamonds. They are not an item that should be "sold" in a sale, negating the "thank you" that comes for buying diamonds to begin with. The ruby bonus should be placed back on sale items.
3. Items that are more permanent or cosmetic, such as backpack slots, tier X runes, mounts, housing storage, costumes, etc. are premium items. It's fine if these go over the $1.00 price point, but at no point should they start costing more than $6.00 per item.
Please note that the item prices above do not account for diamond sales.
At this time, the frequency of diamond sales should be increased slightly. A sale every two weeks to two and a half weeks is perfect, as it gives people enough time to save for the sale and places enough time between the sales to allow for items to be bought when they are not on sale.
Sales should last the entire day, regardless of what is placed in the promotion. No one who wants to play the game and buy something to help their character should be discriminated against, as is happening with the current "Happy Hour" promos.
A diamond sale should happen alongside an item promotion sale at least once a month. This encourages people to look forward to the next few sales, in addition to giving them a reason to stock up on diamonds in anticipation of the next good sale.
One other thing: Sales should always be announced in advance. It is really not that difficult to put up a weekly sales note on the front page, giving players time to prepare for what's coming.
