Yet another waste of gold?

So, now, the magic cavies see our traps 2 and 3 times and run away from them. This ends up making our trap expire, and costs us the gold it took to buy the trap. Given that many times cavies spawn in groups of monsters, on the edge of drop-offs, near something they can jump up so we can't get them, or just take forever to herd into the traps, this is unneeded, unwanted, and unwelcome.

FIX THIS!! Once I can see. Still gives us a chance to catch them with our original trap. Twice and more is beyond stupid.

Erm...they've ALWAYS done this, since the release of cavies and the pet system, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. They have always had an exclamation mark pop up above their head when they get close to a trap, and if you aren't quick enough to push them into it they will run away from it.

Catching cavies is very easy. They last a few minutes, so mobs should never be an issue. I have had them spawn in some bad spots, but it is rare. I just push them away from the area and then lay my trap, and it should never take more than one trap.

I have always seen the exclamation point but that was always followed by a ding and the cavie captured. What the OP is talking about is now if you see that exclamation point, the cavie turns and runs. Even if you are still behind it, pushing to the trap, it will walk right through you to get away from the trap. There is no pushing it while the exclamation point is on the cavie's head.

Its annoying but a small annoyance. I have had one run from the trap three times back to back but what makes me upset is when the cavie walks right through the trap and nothing happens.

The worst part is when cavies walk right into a wall, or in a bumpy ground, sometimes they just walk right through the floor and fly underground...

I'm pretty sure the pet system was released before your/our join dates, so I'm not sure how you would know how cavies worked before you even joined this game...?

And yes, while cavies had an ! on their heads before, that was when they were caught. They've never ran away from a trap until now.

Back @ OP: Its still not a big issue to rage over though. It takes an extra trap to catch it now every now and than. But in the current economy, 8k gold is next to nothing anyway.

Actually, they never have until recently. As other people said, they had the "!" above their heads, but they still trapped themselves. I've caught hundreds of cavies and it's only since I came back after chapter 5 that they started running away.

That said, yes it is annoying. Especially when the cavy is in a difficult area to begin with, since if it runs, you can't herd it back until it gets a certain distance away. I haven't missed a cavy yet due to this, but it does make catching them more troublesome. I don't really get what the point of this ninja-change was. I'd rather them make high level zones drop good pet eggs instead of crap ones, add new pets to the mix from the higher zones, and give us a chance for eggs higher than level 30ish. Making cavies more irritating to catch really doesn't improve a single thing.

It might be more of an annoyance to slum around in AV killing elite nagas all over the map to obtain level 20-40 eggs on a frequent basis. They are in the game and it seems to have been the best place since the pets were put in the game, to obtain eggs for leveling. You can obtain eggs of all color and style from these but they often are anywhere from lvl 20-40. It worked for me.

You might have best luck using a character from 54-62, the nagas elites can be a pain at 55.

I already know that AV drops the highest level eggs. My point is that higher zones should drop better eggs. A level 72 shouldn't have to farm level 55s for good eggs. But that's besides the original topic at hand. My statement was only meant to say that I think it's stupid that, out of all the things they could have changed with cavies and eggs, they decided to make them harder to catch.

With my warlock I farm eggs in AV you know you have a high level pet when he resists the trap, I recently got a dark level 39 that resisted three times. AV is big gold for pets. But the better they are the harder to catch.

I have too noticed a significant change in catching cavies. I've had more than one trap wasted just because the cavy got the ! above thier heads and walked away from the trap when it was about to walk into it. And walked right up into a cliff where I couldnt reach it. Or refused to move after walking away from a trap.
They never used to do that before.

You sure about this Ebil? I had one cavy just yesterday avoid a trap twice and I got a white low level egg out of it. My understanding is that the egg is completely random.

@OP I've noticed this change in cavy behavior too and it is recent. Haven't missed one yet but I can see how it would be a PITA in a bad texture area or a location where mobs respawn quickly.

I only lay traps for Golden Cavies and they have been tougher lately. I understand what the OP is getting at. Often the cavy runs straight through the trap a few times and doesn't get caught.
It really does matter where you place the trap, possibly a Los issue here.
Often I have a challenging cavy, that runs alot and almost gets caught a few times and I think it must be a good one and its most always a low level rune type egg. I haven't gotten very good ones in a long time.

It's was ok for everyone in the game to do a level 50 daily for a year but it's not ok or expected to farm level 55s for eggs?

I agree more elite mobs should be in the game on the open world maps and in return better cavies them. Also they did seem to change something because out of the thousands of eggs I've caught since they were put in the game 2 years ago, I've had a few over the last couple weeks just disregard my trap.

You are aware that forum join dates aren't the same thing as "date they started playing RoM" right? For example I've been playing much longer than my forum date indicates

I too noticed a change to this a couple patches back. Not within the last week or anything.

It's annoying at times, but I almost never have to lay a 2nd trap. And the only time I actually lost a cavy was one time I was out of traps, saw a golden, snooped a couple times to buy traps, then came back and this new "bouncing off the trap" made the cavy disappear before the trap did. :(

Correct, because I did not start playing rom in November of 2009, but July of 2009.

Who would complain about gold sinks anyways? Gold sinks are needed to keep an economy stable.
