In-game incentive to reporting gold buyers

Personally I am all for this idea, so I thought I would share it with the rest of the community on dealing with gold buyers.

Recently on our server (indigo) we have had an individual (no names mentioned) who has been providing in-game incentives (500k gold) to anyone who reports a new gold buyer to her, so she can report them... and hopefully the person who found the gold buyer will report them as well. It has to be something in the AH history that has actually sold. I've found quite a few low level potions selling for tens of millions of gold each or some random frog legs selling for 40+ million each. What do you guys think of this approach to discourage people from buying gold and/or reporting gold buyers/sellers ?

I guess it's a good idea in theory, the server working together against a common enemy and all. Sort of depends if Froggy does anything with the complaints, if they require screen shots, if said person is paying out repeatedly for multiple people catching the same person, how many complaints it takes for Frogster to finally look into the issue...

In the terms of the dramatically overpriced items in AH, I have heard from some people that they are transferring money to alts this way. I guess they don't want to use the mail system since large amounts of gifted gold will make you look like a gold seller, so they use the AH instead.

Not sure if there is a better way to transfer gold to alts.

I don't believe them if they say they are just giving money to there alts. Gamefore can tell that say i give all my gold to my alt that i own both accounts.

Last i check (could be wrong) giving your own money from one of your alts to another is 100% fine.

Except when FA was in charge, I heard horror stories of people getting banned for selling their stuff on AH, being mailed gold, everything. Personally I do face to face trades with alts most of the time, but I can understand the paranoia with all the horror stories that were floating around.

lol at this. I have seen the world arguments on indigo about this very subject and i dont understand the how or why of this player giving gold to people who report gold sellers, to them. honestly it sounds kinda, off. think about it. if you have all the people spotting this stuff for you, basically they are compiling a list so gold sellers could in theory learn how to be more discreet, use lower amounts etc. i wouldnt waste my time. and like was said, sometimes thats how people transfer gold to alts, though why they would want to pay the ah fee when they could mail for free i dunno.

I'd think people who would transfer gold to alts by selling an overpriced item in the auction house and paying the fees, instead of mailing for free, wouldn't have the brain power to figure out the auction house in the first place......

Its not like there is a list floating around of who sells what at what price. I doubt there even IS a list..... just screen shots getting sent in to report fishy transactions on the AH. I guess if the gold sellers were doing it themselves, then they could figure out better ways, but whos to say they dont? What is the % fee for using the AH? I really doubt someone is going to pay that fee on 300,000,000 gold.

The fee is 6%. Soo.. about 18M? not really that bad, considering, they're *gold sellers*. They have tons fo gold.

Selling stuff in ah to transfer gold, sounds like gold seller to me.
The last 1 I heard was even better, helped some1 charge diamonds to their act and the gold was paid using gold from gold spammers. Got banned for 30 days . Lost diamonds and the gold . Scammers.

"WTS gold seller names, 1m a hit, pst."
Kidding.

The likelihood/logic of someone using the AH to transfer gold from an alt to alt is the same as someone buying/selling gold. Both make very little sense with the fee.

Someone get the thought police. Best way to solve this problem is to get rid of the nitche opportunity ie make it more profitable to buy and sell diamonds than to buy gold from spammers. Reducing diamond sales increases the incentive for spammers.

Also since june and july, there has been level 29 white gear going for 359M , 589M on AH, always the same chinese toon name. Gold sellers? hell ya, people selling their accounts on other website or in world chat. Nothing being done. I loaned 40M to a guildie that gave it back 2 days later, threw the mail. Hopefully they don't think anything wrong about that. I've given about 20M and XP orbs to new players on RENI this week. Just so they can enjoy the experience of the game.

We've had quite a few guildies that left the game and just distributed their wealth and gear throughout our guild, before they left. One player came back and we gave him back all his gear and then some. Some players try to get the money that they have spent ingame back. Accept your losses and move on.

It is just a game after all, enjoy it.

My 2 cents.

Lol This argument takes place on Indigo every time "player" posts the bounty. Lots of players support it. Gold buyers dont, and then you have this odd and very vocal 3rd group that does not buy gold but does not like the fact that one player has named themselves the police and think it will lead to some form of corruption.

Well I guess the belief by some people is that gifting large amounts of gold through mail will be picked up by Gameforge and will make you look like a gold seller. Isn't that how GF finds and bans gold sellers now a days? Therefore, people transfer money to alts through the AH and accept the fee so they won't get banned for looking like a gold seller.

Would be really nice to hear a reply from a GM or CM letting us know what the best way to transfer gold to an alt would be. If we gift large amounts of gold to our alts, will we be banned because it will look like we are gold sellers?

I like the idea, but it has a few holes.

First, is there anything stopping a seller from creating a transaction on an alt account and then claiming the reward to resell? Or from claiming the reward on multiple toons?

Second, what happens to the gifter if the gifts are smaller amounts, but given out very frequently? It may look as though the person offering the reward is a seller themselves.
In a world of black, white, and grey... I'd be bright friggin' purple. M/P on Reni.
