Advertising "Buying Zeevex, pst for price" or "Selling Zeevex, pst for price", or even "Selling chocolate chip cookies, 20k each" is still a terms of service violation, and will still lead to account sanctions.
And this is also bannable under our Terms of Service. Items sent between accounts with no in-game consideration allows us to assume and punish as if such a transaction has taken place.
My point was that the only people who are going to mention Zeevex anywhere are going to do it outside Rom's system. It looks something like this:
"WTS X item. Whisper for price."
^See that? Nowhere was the word Zeevex mentioned. The seller then asks the buyer to speak with them via IM or Teamspeak, Ventrillo, etc. (which happens a lot). That's where the word Zeevex comes up. At no point is it mentioned via the ROM mail system, whisper window, chat windows, etc.
If the item or gold is sold for zeevex, it is then sent through the mail system. If it's an item, for all Gameforge knows, it was a gift or a payback of a previous debt owed. If it's gold, it's either sent using a somewhat bogus transaction in the AH or is sent over a specific period of time so as not to arouse Gameforge's suspicions.
Seems like a lot of work for a little payoff, right? Except that Rusty was incorrect. Zeevex CAN in fact be sold for real world money, there are any number of Ebay auctions up on the tokens right now. Even if it gets banned from Ebay, they can still be sold through Craigslist or any number of other auction sites.
Look, I'm not trying to get Zeevex banned from the game for good. We'd lose way too many players who are using it legitimately for the purpose it was intended for. But I'm nowhere near ignorant enough to think that trading zeevex for gold is going to stop completely- there are too many ways to do the transaction without the parent company even getting a hint that Zeevex is involved.
As a result, you have a decision to make. Is it worth it, both financially and in terms of customer service, to alienate someone who was legitimately using zeevex on in-game purchases in order to prevent abuse of the system?
Imho, the answer to that question is no. With as many people who buy and use zeevex for the game, and who enjoy the added benefits of using Zeevex here, trying to restrict trading of one resource for another is going to do more harm than good.
