Going to play and was wondering....

Hi, im new, i am downloading it right now. I was just wondering, I have been told this game is pretty much a replica of WoW, how true is that? how much is this game like WoW? and in what ways. I used to play WoW but got tired of having to pay to play the game, and tired of having to run boring dungeons with people who dont know what they are doing even though we have ran the same dungeon 4 times already! I enjoy dungeons/raids, i enjoy world bosses. I enjoy crafting things and doing skills. Will i enjoy this game? ( i liked WoW, just got tired of little kid bs who dont know what they are doing even after you explain to them and help them.)

As far as it being an mmorpg, it's similar. Some skills will remind you of wow skills, but it's very different. One of the prominent differences is gear customization. It's more how you mod your gear than what gear you have (which is also important of course). I prefer RoM over WoW and I played WoW to ilvl 398.

There's a lv 398 there? o.o

The classes are similar to WoW, but there is one main difference - you can combine 2 classes together, which I believe WoW doesn't have. Each class combo has a different set of "elite" skills only available to that class. ex. Mage/Priest will have different elites from Priest/Mage, even though they are the same classes, combo'd in a different order.

And I think zones are quite similar. RoM dungeons start easy at lower levels, but are extremely difficult at endgame (unless you have like top of the top server gear, which most do not).

While this game is free to play, it is not free to win. There is no monthly fee, but progression beyond level 55/60 will require access to cash shop items. Whether or not you can get your CS items by trading in-game gold for diamonds will greatly depend on your ability and which guild you get into. Truly free to play is the exception here, not the rule.

The game is similar to WoW in that it is a MMORPG and the controls and key layout are similar. Other than that, they are really nothing alike.

As far as running boring dungeons with clueless people, good luck with that. Again it will depend on which guild you are in, and how geared you are. If you haven't made the investment to make your toon viable, you will forever be dependent on the charity of others.

There are world bosses of varying degrees. Again, if you are not geared, you will be relying on the charity of others.

Crafting in this game is more of a grindfest than almost any game I have ever played, with questionable returns. It is a generally accepted fact in this game that most crafting skills are not worth the effort it takes to develop them. Other folks may disagree with this, but I have many alt toons and are at least lvl 65 in all crafting and gathering skills. I don't think I would do any of them again.

Now that I have all the negativity out of the way, I will say that I encourage you to try the game. My experiences may not be the same as yours and the game is perfectly FTP until level 55ish. Plenty of time to make up your mind whether or not you want to make a RL cash investment. The world here is deep, varied and complex. Even after 3 years I still find new things, and not just in the new areas.

If you want to rocket to end-game and run the latest content, be prepared to pay. And pay heavy. If you are looking for entertainment and you get to the end when you get there, you will have fun, meet folks both cool and clueless and probably have a grand old time.

Give it a try and make your own judgement. Welcome to RoM!

BTW, with a join date of Aug 2009, are you sure you are new?

ahh yes im new, see i joined in 2009 and downloaded the game but never got to play cause the computer i had sucked greatly. And lag was way to big. i couldnt finish the very first quest. so i got a better pc now and have played as i said WoW, and ive also played guild wars and rift on this pc. maplestory works, pwi worked, requiem worked. ect. so this game has been in my bookmarks for sometime and i have been bored as of late, so i saw this and im like oooooooo pretty colors lets play! also as of willingness to pay anything? we will come to that later down the road. and thats still a maybe. id rather just earn cash to buy the stuff i need rather then pay real money. even if it takes forever. also, which class to start out with? i like high dmg classes, also tank classes. i like rangers/mages/or swordsman. but not sure what to choose and which would be a pretty quick levling toon for me to start with to get the gist of the game? also whats a pretty well server to start on thats not to populated but not way under populated to the point its dead. reason i ask is my net is sucky and will lag if to many are around constantly. sry for typos i have been awake for 20 hrs and now am going to get some rest.

You can get to end game and do good dps w/out spending money. I reached top dps on Palenque back in October last year or so when I as F2P. Granted, that's not very impressive a feat, given the lack of dps on Palenque, but I can run tosh hard etc. I am now P2P, but it's definitely possible to "win" as F2P. Add to it the diamond vendor and the ease of public events for stats...it can be free to win as well. Possible, but difficult.

From what you said, anything with Warden should work for you Wd/S as high DPS, Wd/W as tank. I say create few characters with different classes, try them to L10 (very easy) and then go to Varenas (game will send you there) and select other class, see if you like combo. Some good combos are R/S, M/P, warden combos as suggested above. I found my more fun to play. (M/R) then those above.

As for game being F2P, it is, but you can (and probably will) on occasion buy some dias, but do not do it until after L55. (it's meaningless)

Crafting takes too much time, resources and rewards are small. Hope they fix this in future.

Any idea what server will you play on?

Imo, Champion might be suitable for you, if you like high damage classes and tank classes. Because Wd/W is still kinda broken as far as I know.

Champion/rogue for sure if you want dps/tank. Hammertime rather than sword. Champ/r can swap btw dps mode and tank mode and it's just fun to watch yourself run around as a robot when you're in tank mode.
