We've complained about the wrong "marketing team"

We've all been wondering about the same question - why have all our feedback about the marketing team never been heard? I took marketing class just for the fun of it, and found out that the "Marketing team" is actually the team responsible for advertising the game, and has nothing to do with creating sales and discounts. So when our feedbacks, such as "Come on, get a better marketing team, these sales absolutely suck!" gets sent to Frogster HQ, its likely that they have no clue what we're taling about (knowing the scandalous lack of understanding between them and us, I wouldn't count on them being able to know we're actually talking about the team responsible for IS sales).

Just a thought ;)

We say Sales Team alot as well. I've come to just accept that our Sales Team are idiots and we will never be able to expect anything but idiocy from them.

Yeah, I've always thought it was weird that everyone assumed the marketing team came up with sales. It's pretty obvious that that would be the sales teams' job. But I don't like our marketing team either. IMO, they are even worse than the sales team. I mean, how many ads have you actually seen for RoM? That's why we hardly get any new players these days.

The ads were the things that brought me to the game in the first place, haven't seen an ads in PcGamer or others in about 1 1/2 year, sad. But since they have no clue on what sales we want, what can we expect from a marketing team. Probably isn't a team, just another 16 year old who doesn't have a clue.

It's not because they can count to 8 on their resume, that you should hire those people Gameforge. They should know how to add, subtract, divide and do multiplication. But then again the person hiring them must also be 16 and have no clue. Sad day Gameforge, sad day.

Same. Did a Google search for "top mmorpg 2012", and RoM was consistently in the top 5, so here I am. :) I had never seen nor heard of RoM before that. I'm not hard to please though, considering I've been playing Ultima Online for about 15 years (with a couple years of Asheron's Call thrown in there somewhere).

A certain game celebrated their 19th expansion all while being a 13 year old game. I've been spammed on youtube with the ads and they've seemingly paid for some google advertising, it will work wonders for that game.

Those "top game for whatever year" from whatever mmo site is just bogus, the publishing companies pay the sites to promote the games. Why do you think nearly every f2p or even p2p game is hyped up so much by those sites.

lol same. I've actualy seen this game advertised on Youtube once. They used the Ch 4 trailer for the youtube Ad you get sometimes when your first open up a video. Bu that was it, and none of my classmates has ever heard of RoM. I vote for new IS team and marketing team.

In my opinion,

I think everyone is off base here, for over a year I’ve been reading, week after week, complaints of fail sales from a poor sales team. However, the sales team is doing exactly what there suppose to be doing.

There not making bad sale moves there making strategic moves. Their purpose is to establish a new norm in the Item Shop and a new norm in diamond buying from players. They want us to get un-use to double D sales; they want us to get un-use to good sales and surplus of rubies. The sales are designed to, first, make the old players get so feed up and leave so new players can’t hear how things use to be. Second, for the old players who don’t leave they want them to get so tired of complaining about the current system that the old players stop and just except how things are. The long game is to make the current sales, item shop prices, and low Diamond specials the new Norm. So any new player who comes in just adopts the current model as norm and thus raising profit.

This game looks to have to roads for itself. Get the player base to except the new business model or get shut down for lack of profit. There really is no losing for the company in this approach. Either they start making money on this game or stop losing money on this game and move on to something else. You have to look at how they see this game as just a means to make profit and it should start to become clearer. Sure we could come up with better ways, while sitting at are PC’s, to make money for this game, but with out being able to see the cold hard data, we have no real way of knowing.

What if in their meeting after thanksgiving they look at their sales figures and say, “looks like we made a killing this week keep up the good work”.

Except that this game has no new players, due to lack of advertisements.

Lol I think I found this game after I quit WoW and then googled "Free games like World of Warcraft" and found RoM.

Yeah I agree with a lot of your points, and I personally don't think that the sales team is as bad as everyone makes them out to be. I mean, you can't have DQ tickets, puri packs, ABL's, etc. on sale every single week people. There are going to be weeks when you really just don't want any of the items for sale. I mean, in RL, it's not like you look at a weekly ad for a store and go "ooo, I want everything that is for sale in this ad". Items that we all want like puri packs and plussing jewels will be on sale eventually, just not every week.

That being said, I do think their are plenty of improvements that could be made. The lack of ruby bonus on sales is egregious, and I do think taking out ABL's from the IS permanently was a bad move since it hinders player development. That's fine if their business model is like you said, but I just don't think that is the most profitable business model. Why not just do your best to satisfy your current player base and then you can make MORE profit off of them, then use that money to create ads and bring in new players, who will spend money as well. Like ruisen said, why would you try to force out all the old players if no new ones are coming in? And they can not possibly get rid of all the old players. There were still be some around to tell new players about the old days and how RoM sucks now, which will not want to make new players stay.
