I've NEVER seen this game adertised. only reason i came across it was by looking for best F2p mmorpgs.
Lol I think I found this game after I quit WoW and then googled "Free games like World of Warcraft" and found RoM.
In my opinion,
I think everyone is off base here, for over a year I’ve been reading, week after week, complaints of fail sales from a poor sales team. However, the sales team is doing exactly what there suppose to be doing.
There not making bad sale moves there making strategic moves. Their purpose is to establish a new norm in the Item Shop and a new norm in diamond buying from players. They want us to get un-use to double D sales; they want us to get un-use to good sales and surplus of rubies. The sales are designed to, first, make the old players get so feed up and leave so new players can’t hear how things use to be. Second, for the old players who don’t leave they want them to get so tired of complaining about the current system that the old players stop and just except how things are. The long game is to make the current sales, item shop prices, and low Diamond specials the new Norm. So any new player who comes in just adopts the current model as norm and thus raising profit.
This game looks to have to roads for itself. Get the player base to except the new business model or get shut down for lack of profit. There really is no losing for the company in this approach. Either they start making money on this game or stop losing money on this game and move on to something else. You have to look at how they see this game as just a means to make profit and it should start to become clearer. Sure we could come up with better ways, while sitting at are PC’s, to make money for this game, but with out being able to see the cold hard data, we have no real way of knowing.
What if in their meeting after thanksgiving they look at their sales figures and say, “looks like we made a killing this week keep up the good work”.
Yeah I agree with a lot of your points, and I personally don't think that the sales team is as bad as everyone makes them out to be. I mean, you can't have DQ tickets, puri packs, ABL's, etc. on sale every single week people. There are going to be weeks when you really just don't want any of the items for sale. I mean, in RL, it's not like you look at a weekly ad for a store and go "ooo, I want everything that is for sale in this ad". Items that we all want like puri packs and plussing jewels will be on sale eventually, just not every week.
That being said, I do think their are plenty of improvements that could be made. The lack of ruby bonus on sales is egregious, and I do think taking out ABL's from the IS permanently was a bad move since it hinders player development. That's fine if their business model is like you said, but I just don't think that is the most profitable business model. Why not just do your best to satisfy your current player base and then you can make MORE profit off of them, then use that money to create ads and bring in new players, who will spend money as well. Like ruisen said, why would you try to force out all the old players if no new ones are coming in? And they can not possibly get rid of all the old players. There were still be some around to tell new players about the old days and how RoM sucks now, which will not want to make new players stay.
